Very pleasant and attractive choice of colors! I think the linework works nicely on this piece. This is the type of water color i would like to learn. :)
I have been in the Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum because of this video, it was a great experience, I also bough the book “Tokyo Storefronts”. Thanks Mateusz for the recommendation!
I also really liked that shop when I visited the Edo Tokyo Open Air Museum a few years ago - so happy to see you paint it. Btw, I visited Tokyo two weeks ago and I was able to find your Tokyo Storefronts book as I was browsing through a book store - I was so happy to find it that I bought it straight away and now I'm enjoying going through it. Thanks for always being an inspiration to me - I always learn a lot from you.
i like how this turned out! especially the shadows. also with the brown lines it looks very pastel-like and soft. which is always nice in my opinion :)
I really like this one, it is good to challenge yourself without using the usual lines. I went this year to this edo tokyo tatemonoen, really nice place and I want to go there again to paint some buildings. I really recommend going to this place!
Mateusz, This is my absolute favourite from all your storefronts. Its so beautiful and I love that you can tell what time of day it is from the casting shadows. You have done a spectacular job and should be very proud of yourself! I look forward to more videos from you :)
I love this painting! My family are big fans of Studio Ghibli movies. I think that is how I found your TH-cam channel in fact. My 16 year old son is an architecture student who is fascinated with Tokyo and hopes to visit there one day.
Say hi from Vietnam, I just got your book (Tokyo Storefronts) from my friend. So happy to have it :)) I cannot help it to tell you that :)). Your artworks and captions are so beautiful!!
I've been to Edo Tokyo Tatemono-en and now I had to look through my pictures to see if the shutters of this building were closed - yepp, even in 2012! Glad you were still able to find a good reference image. A lovely choice for your series and it turned out great. I like the more subtle lineart. Will you be painting more buildings from that park?
Can you do a video on how u animate tradtional backgrounds? How do you go from scene to scene ? How do u pan in a scene? How do you story board your backgrounds?
This is such a lovely painting. Kudos on trying something new. Beautiful hue variations in shadows as well - every wash has some interest, never gets dull. Do you have a real-time video footage available anywhere? (Patreon maybe?)
May I ask why you didn't just do lineart with pencil and then lighten it with an eraser, or paint over a lightboxed sketch? I am a self-taught artist and I've only just recently gotten really good at illustrating so I am trying to understand professional workflows better.
I've seen a lot of artists on youtube use the Col-erase pencils for their sketches beforehand. I wanted to try it too but I didn't have a Col-erase with me so I just gave it a go with a red color pencil. It blended really well with the watercolors and the outline came out really subtle once the illustration was done. Maybe that's why he uses it, it's give less harsher lines than a graphite pencil.
oh that's cool, I didn't think about scanning. Bdw why did you give such an unhelpful answer earlier and follow back with this useful answer? Just asking.
Cause it wouldn't help even if I give a useful one. It is something u need to try and know the diff by your self. My 2nd answer was different cause it's something u need to be told to know it :" thought u might need it, that's all.
I guess there are 2 main advantages: if you do a red sketch and then black lines you can delete the red lines in Photoshop without erasing them (just turn down the red using a “black & white filter) and secondly the red lines do not stand out so much when you paint over them in watercolors for example.
this is absolutely wonderful!!
Thank you!
Yes I’m still watching in 2019

Greetings from Canada. This is so impressive! Your beautiful work brightens up my day! Thank you.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
I like your other pictures, too, but this is just reaaaaally wonderful! The brownish and "disjointed"and linework somehow makes it magical!

The amount of details on such a small paper is simply amazing, have you ever done oil painting before?
I did not paint in oils yet :)

I don’t know, hey have some really nice buildings there (like the public bath) so maybe I’ll go to do some sketching on location there.
i love itttt 💛💛💛💛
Hello Mateusz, I really enjoy your art. I wonder where I can find small art supplies store in Tokyo?, can you suggest me someone? Keep posting please!
Whoaaawww😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
In fact, i think i prefer your painted lines than your inked lines with pen. Great job on this one ! =)
Can you do a video on how u animate tradtional backgrounds? How do you go from scene to scene ? How do u pan in a scene? How do you story board your backgrounds?
I will probably do it someday
Wow! This is amazing! This was a really good speed paint and u definetely inspire me to keep going with watercolor!! Are u able to do some tutorials?
I have some basic tutorials on my gumroad: gumroad.com/mateusz_urbanowicz
Mateusz Urbanowicz ok! Thanks! Sorry for the late reply.
Wygląda wspaniale! Czekam z niecierpliwością na nowe wieści na temat dzieła "Yuragi". Nie mogę się doczekać, kiedy wyląduje na mojej półce.
wow
❤️❤️❤️
Holy moly. :O
すごい!ずっと見ていたい
your voice is so cute :D
Cool
So pretty as always. How long does it take you to finish off these illustrations you show in the time-lapse videos?
It depends on a piece - from few hours to 3 days of work.
Mateusz Urbanowicz Wow, you put such great efforts on your paintings. No wonder they are so beautiful.
This is such a lovely painting. Kudos on trying something new. Beautiful hue variations in shadows as well - every wash has some interest, never gets dull. Do you have a real-time video footage available anywhere? (Patreon maybe?)
I’m sorry but I don’t usually upload real-time footage (too long)
Mateusz Urbanowicz Oh good to know, thanks 😊 I just asked to check maybe if it was available somewhere and I had missed it. Love your work!
May I ask why you didn't just do lineart with pencil and then lighten it with an eraser, or paint over a lightboxed sketch?
I am a self-taught artist and I've only just recently gotten really good at illustrating so I am trying to understand professional workflows better.
Melon Dick you'll understand it someday. Just try it ur self
I've seen a lot of artists on youtube use the Col-erase pencils for their sketches beforehand. And usually ppl use red or blue cause it is less visible when u scan them.
oh that's cool, I didn't think about scanning.
Nipon one ! ;)
I've seen many artists use red-colored pencils to sketch their drawings. What makes it different from using regular pencil lead?
I guess there are 2 main advantages: if you do a red sketch and then black lines you can delete the red lines in Photoshop without erasing them (just turn down the red using a “black & white filter) and secondly the red lines do not stand out so much when you paint over them in watercolors for example.
What is going on with the eraser at 3:25?
🌻
Amazing!
