    As of next week, whatnot no longer will be offering the $1 extra for each additional item. A second funko will now be $2.50. Heavier items will cost a lot more. Just came out yesterday so your video is now outdated lol. Sucks as I loved the $1 for additional items.

    As a seller of comics on Whatnot, everything you said is extremely valid. I have no problem with the 10.9% fees, but the listing fees on top of that doesn't add up, and you are spot on with the shipping. I sell a customer 25 comics, they are paying $28 in shipping, when I could put all of those books into a flat rate box for $16.50. Consumers should be incentivized to buy more, instead it is quite the opposite.

    • @AFOLMAN
      @AFOLMAN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience. As you know after I made this video they just made it worse by raising the shipping fees. I see some people saying whatnot is paying way over for some people shipping fees because they entered the weight wrong. I shouldn’t have to loose sells because my buys have to pay for other peoples mistakes. It’s a joke.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AFOLMAN Agreed. There are a lot of pros AND cons with the app right now. And my shopping calculation was much lower, as shipping prices have raised. 28 books would be $45 in shipping. $5 for the first book, and $1.50 for the next 27. That is insane.

      Yeah, it's kind of nuts that on $1 sale you're going to pay 53c in fees for the buyer's first purchase on most items (like a trading card single).

Im a business and getting that extra shipping cost to pay for boxes, tape, packing, etc I need that extra income. It also helps me to be able to offer my items at a lower cost. As of right now META will dominate. META fees are flat 5% over $8 or a flat fee of $0.40 for $8 or under. any extra shipping fees you keep. Thats the way it should be done. Charging 3 different fees and keeping the extra shipping is called theft

    I think they could reduce their fees if they allowed people to 'load' their accounts with funds and bid from that money. All of those individual fees likely aren't going to whatnot, they're going to credit card processing. It's very familiar fee comparable to paypal, I believe they are (or were at one point at least) 2.9% + 30 cents.

  • @nickv2601
    @nickv2601 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 30 cent/transaction fee is bullshit, but to be fair that 30 cents goes to PayPal as part of the transaction fees per individual transaction. It would be GREAT if Whatnot would stop being asleep, and COMBINE purchases together into a single charge (instead of 100 small ones that each would incur a 30 cent fee), which would only result in 1 single 30 cent transaction fee. No idea why they haven't done this yet.

I have noticed at least in the comic book auctions there are sellers who do not know the product of comic books and do a lot of teleprompt reading. What not isn’t that bad. You can sell things pretty much instantly, print a label and drop it at the post office. eBay you have to wait a week or months before your item sells for the most part and compete with other listings. Both have benefits depending on what you’re selling. If you can sell something instantly and take a $1 different than eBay I think that’s the benefit

    100% Correct on what you are saying. Here is an example of E-Bay vs WhatNot. Say you sell 4 Star Trek TNG Carded Playmate figures to the same customer for $5 each plus shipping.
    What Not
    $20 for the items
    $15 shipping ($6 first item + $3 per on others)
    $0 tax just to make it easy
    What Not just gives you a prepaid label, so 100% of shipping goes bye bye.
    8% fee on item costs = $1.60
    2.9% fee on item+shipping+tax = $1.02
    $.30 per item ran = $1.20
    Total fees is $3.82. You get a check from WhatNot for $16.18.
    E-Bay
    $20 for the items
    $10 for combined shipping
    Shipping label actually costs $8.50 after E-Bay discount Priority label.
    12.9% E-Bay fee on total transaction = $3.87
    $.30 for the entire transaction = $.30
    You get $30 from E-Bay - $8.50 for shipping label - $4.17 in fees. You get a check for $17.33.
    In both cases, you provide all the packing materials at whatever that cost is to you.
    So with E-Bay, you just made more money for yourself (an extra $1.15). Your customer just got the same 4 items for $30 on E-Bay, vs $35 on WhatNot! Or if you charged your customer $15 for shipping on E-Bay so their cost was the same, you would pocket $21.68!!! $5.50 more than with WhatNot!!!
    And even further, if you have an E-Bay store, you would have only paid 12% in fees vs 12.9%, and if you are Top Rated Seller with returns and 1 day handling, you can get an even further discount.
    Most people overlook that WhatNot charges you that 2.9% on the over inflated shipping fees, yet you don't get to keep any of the extra shipping! You pay the fee for them to keep the money!
    I don't think sellers on WhatNot are really paying attention to fees. Depending on what and how you sell, WhatNot could be costing you lots of extra money!
    WhatNot is social selling. You are only successful on WhatNot when you can convince your "followers" to pay you more for something than what it is worth, just for the privilege of buying it from you!
    I buy some GI Joe figures on WhatNot. DaToyMan is a big seller, and I routinely watch his customers pay $30 + shipping to him for a figure that is on E-Bay with a BIN of $25 + free shipping. They are paying him $9 more, just for the privilege of buying it from him! He will throw in some stickers, or a trading card, or sometimes a broke figure as a bonus to close that $10 gap, but he doesn't close it all the way. But his audience gets a sense that "he is taking care of them" for overpaying. So he makes more than he would on E-Bay, and his customers pay more than they should just to buy from him.
    It's their choice, but if I have $100 to spend, I would rather get 4 figures I want off E-Bay, than 3 figures I want off him, plus some stickers and maybe an extra broken figure or two...

    Hello,
    My findings for last week on What Not vs Ebay:
    Ebay Average Costs: 12.9% FEES, 12.1% Shipping Costs
    Whatnot Average Costs 21% FEES, 3% Shipping Costs
    TECHNICALLY WHATNOT IS BETTER IN SOME WAYs, BUT I DISLIKE THE GIVEAWAY PART WHERE WE EAT THE COSTS JUST TO DO BUSINESS.
    I am going to do both essentially to double income.

    when $1 shipping was going on WhatNot made bank on the smaller items UNTIL you realize they lost their shirts on the heavier items. For them it was likely a wash, or small profit/loss.. and the 2.9% + .30 is Paypal's fees, not WhatNot, its the processing fee just like Visa, Mastercard and all charge.

    • @AFOLMAN
      @AFOLMAN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I asked the lady from whatnot if I could bypass the 2.9% + .30 fee if I linked my bank account instead of PayPal and she said I’d still get it so I’m not sure about that. It would be nice if it ran like a real auction, you win stuff and when the auction is over you have one transaction for all the items you won. Iv had friends get their credit cards shut down because of so many transactions over and over during a whatnot auction.

      Yeah the last auction I did I bundled stuff so i would have less fees but whatnot doesn’t give the sellers a break down of all the fee’s so it’s hard to keep track of how much you actually make. I think they are hoping most people won’t notice how little they bring home after waiting over a week sometimes to get the payout.

    • @profwithbeats
      @profwithbeats 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AFOLMAN Yup I commented above on this. Since the fee percentage now comes out of the total price with shipping, a $1 auction with $4 shipping means that you're losing 10.9% of $5 plus 30 cents - that's like 80 cents on $1 sale.

Stand by what you say and get off the platform and maybe they will see there's an issue when people start walking away and then they'll do something about it but as long as you all go along WHY should they change anything and forgo making money from all of you?

      No EBay doesn’t, not really. Fees are running about 15% on EBay and $.30 once per order. And usually I make a couple extra bucks on the shipping, which covers the box and packing materials.
      On WhatNot they keep all the extra shipping and they charge you $.30 per lot in your package, not just $.30 for the entire order like EBay. Then you pay a 10.9% fee on the items, but not shipping.
      It does somewhat depend on what you sell, if everything you sell is $100, then WhatNot might work in your favor. If what you sell is $5, it might work against you.

  • @dougheclipse1717

    Some of this is flawed. The 30 cent fee is for PayPal transaction fee. How is this not understood by people. They plainly say it's per transaction and that's the only way to do it if you think about it. How is whatnot or PayPal supposed to know you will be buying multiple items later? There isn't a shopping cart in live auctions. You win the auction you pay the cost and any other auctions you win are separate. If they let you build up a few wins to only do 1 transactions then how many of those would not go through and you just lost multiple sales. If you overdraw your bank account $100. Is 1 $100 transaction or 100 $1 transactions going to cost you the same fees? They are both 100 overdrawn but your going to pay for EACH transaction. Also the shipping cost, how exactly is this hurting you as a seller? They add the shipping cost and the buyer carry most of that burden. I'm totally not understanding the big deal here and I think most are the same is why your not seeing other people make videos like you said.

      @@donnylincoln5628 I think it's more of a debit card transaction fee or whatever. Like 30 cents per swipe. It's not bad really and if your the seller it's nothing to you. eBay now manage all their on payments and is so much worse. I sold a Pokemon card 2 days ago for about $840 plus $6 shipping. eBay took from the buyer the $840 plus the shipping plus tax was like $935 or something then after all that is added that's when they do their 12.9% cut. They make money off the tax and the shipping this way out of your pocket. I was pissed.
