    St. Pete, yeah!! Used to cruise over there to party with my beach crew back when I lived in New Smyrna. I actually live right by were OV is located, and we just pop in to buy stuff from them. Thanks for making a genuine, non-cheesy hiking video. Very refreshing.

    Thanks for sharing the video! I think that this pack is such a cool design and really finds the balance between ultralight and functional.

    Do you have a bear canister or could borrow one to try in there? Like say a BV450 or BV500? Assuming that it goes in upright, the roundness vs the zipper might be interesting.

    • @TropicTekkers
      @TropicTekkers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have a bear canister but it is something that I am thinking about getting however; being in Florida there is some blackbear activity but nowhere that I go to frequently requires one they just require you to hang your food in a tree so I have a food bag for now.

    • @aaalllen
      @aaalllen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TropicTekkers CA has a bunch of areas where rangers will knock on your backpack to check on canisters. Like I'm in Tahoe where Desolation Wilderness is not canister required, but you're not going to easily find a tree for a proper hang (2-3ft branches that droop downard). Sometimes even finding 2 trees to string a line between can't be found. There are definitely a lot of reports of bears getting into hung food.

    • @TropicTekkers
      @TropicTekkers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaalllen Well I guess I’m pretty lucky then but thank you for letting me know I will keep that in mind if I ever am able to get out there .I’ll have to buy a good bear canister for sure!

    Im concerned about the zipper breaking, every zipper backpack in the middle ive had from my personal experience ends up break with a normal 20-25lb load

    • @TropicTekkers
      @TropicTekkers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I will probably have more reviews on this as I do more hikes and break it in more so we shall see how it lasts

    • @tamiboelter2833
      @tamiboelter2833 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is also my concern

    • @theosteinbauer6709
      @theosteinbauer6709 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention, using a pack liner makes that zipper even more pointless.

    • @dubon6372
      @dubon6372 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My concern too. I wonder why they didn't add straps to secure the load, and release the strain on the zipper. That is a deal breaker for me, I am not an ultralight backpacker and my gear weights around 25-27 pounds.

  • @danfarbecker2441

    Thanks for posting the video...how waterproof is that central zipper? Seems odd to have a roll top to seal out water while having a zipper in the middle.

    • @TropicTekkers
      @TropicTekkers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not tested how waterproof the zipper is yet, but that was also my original thought and after some consideration I decided to get it anyway and still use a pack liner or trash compactor bag for my sleeping bag and clothes anyway just to make sure they don’t get wet.

    • @danfarbecker2441
      @danfarbecker2441 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TropicTekkers Thanks...one more question...how comfortable is the front belt and clip? It looks fairly narrow...that seems it would cut and bind.

    • @TropicTekkers
      @TropicTekkers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danfarbecker2441 Good question, I have used it with pants and also running shorts I will say I am a 31 waist so I actually think I should’ve gotten a small hip belt instead of a medium because I have to tighten mine up the entire way and tuck the access straps underneath the hip pouch pockets so I do not know how it feels to have the actual strap on me I mostly just have the padding touching my hips and waist.

    Awesome review! I just bought one, do you know if the hip belts are interchangeable? I'm blaming the pandemic but I've recently put a few pounds on and not sure if the medium size hip belt will fit.

    • @TropicTekkers

      Yes they Velcro on in between the pad on the lower back and the frame you can slide this one out and put a different one in place until you get hiking enough to go back to the medium

    The full length zipper on the main compartment. Zipper failure and when that happens all your gear will come and spilling out and you are screwed..

    • @mattheishman170
      @mattheishman170 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Drew Price True..however having the zipper also weakens the integrity of the fabric..

    • @mattheishman170
      @mattheishman170 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Drew Price. There is a reason why the majority of backpack manufacturers have moved aways from zippers on the main compartment...zipper failure.
