My dad was from Ireland. I remember at Christmas time getting up in the middle of the night to say hello to my aunts uncles and cousins on the phone with the delay that international calls had 😊
When you suddenly remember we only had TWO television channels back then. And you had to look up what was going to be on TV in the newspaper (and eventually the TV guide). What a different world it was.
Remember when the vcr came out where you could enter a number or scan a barcode to set it to record? Now we just google and go to the streaming service😊
I've had a few comments (since deleted) suggesting I'm a "pedo" because of my comment. Which pretty much proves my point. What society is sicker? The one that sees kids having a bath and thinks it's cute, or the one who immediately thinks it's sexual? Remember, two people can see the same image, or read the same sentence, and have two different reactions depending on what goes on in their own mind.
Its surprising cause it just wouldnt happen now. I remember running around naked all the time. But we didnt have the same awareness of ourselves and media back then especially on public tv.
@@komodosp Everyone knew about Jimmy Saville back in the day - John Lydon even alluded to it on tv. The reason nothing was done about it back then is the same reason nothing is done today - if people have enough power they get away with it. Do you remember the Wikileaks emails which showed the Clinton's cronies were arranging hot tub parties with 8 year olds? And the only person who ended up in prison was Julian Assange for putting it out there. Same thing with Joe Biden showering with his daughter and sniffing/groping all those little kids. There is pedophilia all around us - we have drag queens twerking in front of toddlers, taking prepubescent kids to strip clubs and throwing money at them while they grind on poles. All that is in the open, and nobody seems to mind. Same with the trans medical procedures, biological men in changing rooms etc. All of that is child abuse that is not just tolerated, but protected and celebrated. You'd have to wonder if blaspheming Jesus and glorifying homosexuality might have led to a decline in societal values? Those taboos might have existed for a good reason.
Chills and ting down my spine i remember most of these ads,ads who would thought they clean up anything today or the last 10.20 or even 30years since the 80s left the 80s can not be touched or matched forever just hit the bar high in history another dimension blessed to be part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s all the emotions catching all this as a kid truly missed and wished to go back and doing again in my dreams and spirit truly was the vibes and feelings u need to be part of and enjoyed memories aswell
So glad you were able to go back and enjoy these memories too. Sometimes when you see something you haven't seen in 30 years, it feels like yesterday. Amazing.
Yes Frosties Coco Pops all terrific Yoplait Pebbles list is endless i remember all those they all had catchy themes like anything that was done gave us entertainment the World showed it was at its highest my opinion we only had 2channels perfection we had it all i reckon i go back in a heartbeat or my Spirit i like to see what i got up too and was doin would be very interesting lots of sad happy u name it all emotions
Very nostalgic. I came over from Canada at the end of 1981 so I was here for those. As a broadcast engineer, I worked with some of the people in these ads.
I grew up in Wellington. A few years ago I was talking to a man who'd worked in tv as a technician. I asked if he'd worked at Avalon studios. He said no, but during his time in the industry that was the place to be
@@sleek822 My TV time was either early Saturday watching cartoons while getting ready for soccer or around 6.30pm - 7.30pm (I think) watching sit coms with the family. Perfect Strangers, Family Ties etc. I remember Cheers but don't recall if that was on later?
I wonder if anyone remembers an Insurance ad from the 87 - 88. There are two pharaohs and only one of them is insured. When there is a disaster, both of their pyramids are destroyed. But only the pharaoh with the Insurance has his pyramid rebuilt. Either it was a State or NZI.. It was a brilliant ad which I remember distinctly..
37:10 Pebbles. I feel I remember that. Might be part of the reason I still like them. The colours remind me of childlike wonder and exploring paint at primary school.
I was in my 20s in 1986 - trying to find a job after polytech. I usually ignored the ads and read a book. but some of these I do remember. Oddfellows - (21:25) - I LOVED the oddfellows ad. One of my favourites. Have not seen that in years!!! Now THAT one is Real Nostalgia for me!!! Space Camp - (28:35) - Joaquin Phoenix's very first movie - only he was called Leaf Phoenix back then!!! - One of my all time favourite movies!! Nestle Milky Bar - (34:08) - the Milky Bar Kid!!! - Another favourite ad - I LOVED milky bars!!! I still adore white chocolate even now, 40 years later... Bournvita - (49:30) - The kids in school - I definitely remember this one!!
The reason I asked about 1982 to 1988, I wanna see if there's a commercial or two for NZ's TOYOTA Tercel Station Wagon. I'm a huge fan of the NZ model!
Does the creator of this video remember that ad (80's most likely) with the guy wearing a business suit driving along the road but you couldn't see the vehicle, and it was just his suit leaving 'smoke trails'? At the end of the ad I think he goes to fill up at a petrol (Shell?) station. Cheers.
I was 12. Sh*t was better, simpler, more innocent, more community spirit. Even though I was being psychologically abused by my narcissistic "mother", sh*t was still better.
Good stuff. I was 10 in 1986 and raised on t.v.n.z. A few ads I haven’t seen since the mid eighties. I’d like to see some of the public service announcements, “Think, before you drink, before you drive”, “Do you need a hand?” that kind of stuff.

Good old days.
So many memories
I was only 4 in 1986. It’s interesting looking at these through my adult eyes now
i was 5, its such a time warp aye

The Palmolive ad wouldn't fly these days. It was so fun and innocent back then. Now everyone is miserable.

I would go back in a heartbeat.

@@johnallen8094 Exactly 👍
And 6 digit phone numbers. Still remember all the phone numbers of my family and friends.
Crazy, samsung, they went far cos I'm watching these adds on a phone
I hardly remember any of those ads. I guess I didn't watch that much TV. Was probably playing my Commodore 64. Great days. Such simpler times.

Yup that's Jim alright❤
Normally i hate commercials but i enjoy these ones, the world will never be the same again.

Haha I only had hurricane, a mate had Rhino, another mate had jackhammer and a few others that I can't remember.. good times 😂
Better quality than the G.I Joe vehicles.
That old Chux commercial at 23:23 brings back so many memories. I used to enjoy watching it as a school boy and wishing we were a Chux family.
In North America, they're J-Cloths (by Johnson Wax) or Handi Wipes (originally by Colgate-Palmolive, now by Clorox).

Great job as usual buddy. Keep these great videos coming! Love the oddfellows ad in particular, there's some classic kiwi faces on that ad.

These ads are 38 years old but they seem 100 years old compared to 2024
No, they don't.

Mainly Australian produced commercials shown on New Zealand Television.
