- Though part of the allure of cruising is visiting multiple places within a single vacation, the ship itself is often considered a destination in and of itself.
From world-class dining to entertainment options that rival those in major cities, cruise ships offer numerous onboard experiences for guests to enjoy. Because the ship is essentially a floating playground, passengers may not always feel the need to disembark in port.
If you are torn, here are 8 reasons you should consider staying onboard during port days.

We travel with our adult special needs daughter and like to stay on board to enjoy the quiet slow paced days.
And there's a middle ground: get off the ship and just poke around for a short while before returning. If you're not going on an excursion an hour should be enough in many ports.
That is what we do especially if we’ve been there many times before.
agreed, you need to stretch your legs at least.
Free WiFi onshore as well
We did that in Alaska
Had several hours but got off, walked around the local town, then went back and enjoyed the ship
We are from Washington so when it went to port in Victoria we didn’t even get off and enjoyed a nearly empty ship, figuring we can drive to Victoria if we wanted to
@@tylerburkley9035 I'm on a December cruise from Sydney Australia with just one port in a sleepy village that has fukall there and most people drive through the town going further south. Definitely a good time to enjoy a childless ship for a few hours
My wife likes "port days" as she is primarily a "day person", I was on 2nd shift (1500-2330) for 36 of my almost 39 years, and I've seen several of the ports, so I'm fine with "sleeping in" and exploring the ship. From what I've seen; "some" private islands will honor your "drink package" if you have one.
We love port days! We travel for a living! So port days are lovely to just relax and have the ship to ourselves! ♥️
I’ve been to most of the Caribbean ports 8 times do Ive been there done that. I have all souvenirs so I stay onboard now
good list
lots of good points
We sometime cruise for the ship, not the itinerary. Makes port days so much better with everyone else off the ship.
I have never been on a cruise, but I would go for the relaxation and food. Forget the tours and cheesy entertainment. Not for me. Karaoke would be great!
Karaoke is fun to watch, but some of the shows are a must see 😊
Whole reason for taking a cruise is going to different ports and checking them out , don't be paranoid get out and live a little
Jamaica was all “buy my stuff” aggressive, we bought 2 things then went back to ship. Unless on an excursion.
Not if you have been to the Port(s) a Dozen times previously. Let the newbies go whilst you enjoy the Ship with more elbow room. How many times can you go see Roatan for example.
there is NOTHING to see at the port in all of the caribbean…..just trinkets and loud music, unless you are going on an excursion. I think the drug trade has ruined all of the islands the last 25 years……..SAD….the ship is the trip!
I agree!!! This may have some validity for Caribbean and Mexico ports, but cruises go to many incredible places and my favorite was a coastal Italy cruise. If I stayed on the ship on port days I would have never seen the countless historical sites that I dreamed of visiting for many years.
We normally go out on an excursion in certain ports. The ports we have been often we stay on the ship. It is about the only time we get a chance to get on the hot tub without it being full of children. When we do B2Bs we always stay on the ship on the port that we may repeat. As I have told people that have never taken a cruise is that you can do EVERYTHING or NOTHING. We are always in the middle!
Theirs 1/2 dozen ports that I’ve been too,I wouldn’t get off to see
Hey I am thinking of trying msc and I heard I can do status match can you guys make a video on the loyalty tiers for msc ?
for me if I am going on a cruise I am actually staying the entire week in the ship
yes.,..pretty much have been to all the stops in the caribbean……so I do not get off….
Don't you have to still pay port fees if you don't disembark
Yep
Lmao yeah
i still haven't gone on a cruise but i was cruise videos.... (i can't travel currently anyway for health reasons so i guess it's not just a weird quirk of mine). i've always thought...i don't like the idea of the rides...or really going on tours in far away ports...so why does it seem so appealing? if all i care about the the buffets and restaurants shouldn't i just go to those locally? i guess the idea of an inclusive package makes it seem an exotic experience where i don't have to think about money (after paying beforehand...) but shouldn't it be less costly to a company who wants me as a guest to just make a cruise ship on dry land that locks everyone in a building? they wouldn't need engine maintenance or fuel bills... i guess pretending i'm on a spaceship might also be fun too though... well maybe one day i'll give it a try do the "stay onboard" thing 🙂
Yes, I tend to give Noumea a miss, it's expensive and boring.
At this point there are no cruise ships sailing to Nouméa, bc there is civil unrest in New Caledonia. Btw the old and inner city of Nouméa is full of history and nice to visit. The port area of Nouméa might be not so interesting, but there are beautiful beaches, historic sites and great landscapes around Nouméa to visit. Btw New Caledonia is the so-called Côte d'Azur of South Pacific. Price level in New Caledonia is the same like other countries/islands in South Pacific - vacation there has always been expensive.
Greetings from Moorea (where I live)🌴 🏖 😎 🇵🇫 🇫🇷 🇪🇺
it's a shit hole.
I guess this is not for an Alaskan cruise 😂
So, you go to places you'll probably never see again - but you opt for... spa treatments or lounging by a pool 😆😆😆 Just stay home.
Disagree
Ok let's face it. You get what you pay for. Carnival is crap.
