      I've just got back from a trip in Norway and all the guides there had the RescueMe PLB's. There are just reliable bits of kit.

      It does what it says on the tin. No fuss PLB. It's with me at all times. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Happy Hiking 🥾- Julia

    Great piece of kit. It really seems a bit uniquely small and functional considering it doesn't need the constant charging and constant subscriptions. Have you found something better since, or is this still the ticket? Cheers Julia ;-)

      I still use this PLB. I’ll probably get an In Reach Mini for the PCT so that I can communicate via text and people can track my hike. But for now, this serves its purpose. I test it every six months. It’s a fab and love the idea that there are no subscription charges. (And the battery lasts forever).

      @@TheAdventureGeek PLBs are superior to satellite transmitters like Inreach, in a real emergency. PLBs transmit with about 4 times the power so your message is more likely to get out, and they have a better satellite network.

    Caanam Missing 411 inspired me to invest in one of these. I'm in the U.S. so that will work in the U.S. right? Just have to register it with the U.S. gov.?

    • @TheAdventureGeek
      @TheAdventureGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It’s an Australian product, and I’m in the UK. I’ll use it when I’m hiking the PCT in 2023. There is no text message service with it, but also no monthly subscription charge. It’s just SOS. 🆘

      It will work worldwide (assuming emergency service are available locally), but you always register in your home country.

    i have been looking at the acr line , but i heard from some people that the sos button is too easy to press and that it results in a few accidental signals. have you had any issues like that with their resqueme? also does the antenna need to be pulled out to activate the signal?

    • @TheAdventureGeek
      @TheAdventureGeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all. This has a spring loaded clip over the button so it’s difficult to do it by accident.

    What is the Price i you accidently punch the emergency Burton?

    • @TheAdventureGeek
      @TheAdventureGeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you punch the emergency button then the rescue service first call the number that you add to the service. They confirm that you are on a trail, then they identify with the person that you actually need help before sending someone out. It's a well thought out process.
      There is no charge.

      @@TheAdventureGeek Thanks. But I am not in danger and I acedently activate the button. What will then happen

    • @TheAdventureGeek
      @TheAdventureGeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To activate it, you need to pull the flap, then press the button. It's very difficult to do it accidentally.

      @@TheAdventureGeek but what happens if you do?

    • @TheAdventureGeek
      @TheAdventureGeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenholmdal if you accidentally open the flap, push the button and then confirm the call 🆘 then the mountain rescue people will be on their way following the GPS signal. (They phone your emergency number first though)
