    Just an insight on the 1st gen- my buddy has a 12 valve and he works in same shop as I, and he popped 2 head gaskets ( head was studded and o ringed, 1 gasket was Mahle, 2nd was / victor reinz, finally he put a Cummins oe gasket in and this solved the issue. both times they popped, coolant got in the oil and it turned milky, also it was steaming a lot out the breather, or it could go the other way, with oil in coolant ( this also happened for him the 2nd time it blew) if the blow by is not enough to make the oil cap hop, then the piston rings are ok.

  • @shortieaustin5211
    @shortieaustin5211 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Its just a head gasket my friend. That will cause blow by as well because of the compression loss from the head gasket. Dont get rid of it over that. I would fix it cause 1st gen is hard to come buy anymore and they are million+ mile trucks.

    Pull the oil fill cap while the truck is running. That will give you a accurate idea on the blow bye issue. It’s not uncommon to have steam come out of it while the truck is off. The oil gets hot. The blow bye might not be as bad as you are thinking man

    The milky oil is coolant getting into your oil. The reason why can be anyones guess. It could be a blown oil cooler or headgaskets. Also the best way to check how bad the blow by is to take the cap off while the truck is running and see if it blows the cap off. I have a 6.0 powerstroke that will shoot a stream of smoke about four inches high when it gets really hot but I can put a napkin on the oil fill hole and the napkin wont blow off. So dont let the smoke scare you.

    I would take the old first gen over to your motor builder and have them go thru her I'm sure it wouldn't take much it seems to run to good to have any major major issues. Then just have some fun with the Ol girl! It is a kick ass truck!!! Just a thought!

    • @TheBlasterGuy
      @TheBlasterGuy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean Gurskey diesels can run good with major issues. Just rebuilt Cummins ISM motor that had a cracked head, allowing coolant to pass into the piston sleeves causing a major coolant smell when the truck ran. The motor still ran great and had a cracked head. Doesn’t mean it’s a simple fix at ALL.

    You got a bad head gasket or cracked head more than likely. The stream and milky oil is not just blow by. I had a bad head gasket on a 89 first generation and it ran fine even with the bad gasket. Pretty unlikely the head is warped or cracked. A first gen head weights 146 pounds and is super thick so there pretty hard to damage. A head gasket is not a bad job to do.
    Just had another thought when you had the hood off it. Did you possibly leave it out in the rain could have got water in the motor and that could be your problem as well.
