  • In this video I talk about the Walther LP53 air pistol. How it works and also how it shoots. I test the gun out on a chronograph and set some targets up to check accuracy.

My favorite. Shooting this pistol is addictive!

Dry Firing a spring piston airgun will damage the piston seal severely.
If you have been dry firing the pistol will definitely not be shooting at the velocity it should be.

am aware of the risks, once or twice is ok, would not make a habit of it

@@newtownnaughtyboy8742 like the pre/post war Webley pistols it probably has a substantial buffer on the end of the piston and only one seal, on the breech, which it cannot blow out. I hate to think how many times my Junior has been dry fired, it is pre-war and was given to my grandfather by my father, and no harm done. For comparison it still shoots around 340fps, about 2-ft.lb, but with accuracy that might hit the side of the shed at 10 metres.

5:44 The LP-53 is very ammo sensitive and some pellets give very low velocities. Try 7.0gr RWS Meisterkugeln, 7.33gr Falcons or 7.87gr AA Diabolo Express - all of them work well with the Walther and you may see an increase in velocity.
I got an average of 410fps with RWS Meisterkugeln in my unmodified Walther, then later tuned it with a TR Robb head, different spring and spring guide etc. and now get 510fps with the RWS and 500fps with Falcons.

@@newtownnaughtyboy8742 Good luck with it. The Walther barrels are ever so slightly narrower than some other barrels causing greater friction when using wider pellets. Not all 4.5mm barrels or pellets are created equal...
The TR Robb piston head assembly was also the single one thing that increased performance most when I had my Walther modified. It took it up from 410fps to 460fps. The spring, spring guide and top weight were the final icing on the cake.

Have the Lp53 and Lp3. Does anyone know if the Lp3 was a single or two stage trigger? Mine only seems to be single stage with a little first travel

Closing the pistol whilst its still pointed at your thigh is a very bad idea. Methinks that you have very little weapons handling experience!
