Your channel is new. I subscribe to a lot of reactors and I see too many of them fall into the same pattern, doing the same videos as every other channel in more or less the same order, you'll get a ton more Priest suggestions, that's understandable, but you'll get tons of Nightwish and Metallica just like every other channel, then they go into The Big 4, which doesn't mean those 4 bands are the epitome of metal, they were the first 4 "Thrash" metal bands to sign with major labels, which means endorsements and lots of money to throw into production and promotion which made those 4 bands become the first thrash metal bands to sell platinum albums. It's all marketing and money, not because they were the best, they were the first, second, third and fourth. So what I'm saying is PLEASE don't follow the same path as most channels, don't be afraid to try obscure indie bands just because they won't get the views a millionth reaction to Ghost Love Score or One will get, it should be about discovering new things, not following the same beaten path as everyone else. To be honest I can't do another of either. Seen too many, all the same. Metallica's Through The Never doesn't have any reactions, that bugs me, it's the only song I like on The Black Album.
Please read my other comments on this video, nobody starts their journey into metal going down the little known path of female fronted metal.
Rob Halford is the premier metal vocalist. I saw him jump in for a weekend of shows when Ronnie Dio would not open for headliner Ozzy. It was incredible performance. Ozzy has a nickname, "Prince Of Darkness", Halford calls him "The Wizard". Halford's nickname? "Metal God"!👍👍
"Painkiller" should NEVER be the first song one hears by Judas Priest, unless you're already an established metal head. Regardless of how freaking AWESOME it is, that song is just too intense for most people.
Haha, yeah, when it came out it was just about intense enough for me but I mostly listened to more extreme stuff back then.
I saw Judas Priest in 1982 and basically had an out of body experience! Rob absolutely slayed it!

I believe Rob has a 4 octave range. You should listen to "Victim Of Changes" from "Unleashed In The East" Live. It's only audio but for my money it's THE best vocal version that exists.
Everything on Unleashed In The East is insanely good. Possibly the best live album ever. I just wish it were *much* longer.

Rob is now 71 and still performing, which tells quite a lot about how healthy his singing technique was and is.
Yes, he obviously no longer have over 3 octave vocal range, but no one has at 71.

He may still be able to squeeze out 3 octaves, even now, given that he was 4 octaves in his prime (C2 to ear splitting C#6). Granted, his back problems have played a big role in his keeping to a shorter range as well. We're all getting older, and it sucks lol He still sounds pretty damn good though. I'd happily still pay to see him live.

I just seen him talking recently Rob saying he's older and wishes he could hig the high notes again.
@@eidetecker, Jon Anderson has a really unique voice, though. His natural speaking voice goes as high as a woman's, while still maintaining the slight grit of a high baritone. Just his modal voice is crazy wide.
You now see and hear why Rob Halford is affectionately known in the metal world as The Metal God.

The highest note Rob's reached on a studio album was on "Run of the Mill" from Judas Priest's debut, Rocka Rolla (1974). Some of his lowest notes were on "Dying to Meet You," also from that record.

Pretty sure Rob's never hit any higher notes than the screams he hits here in Painkiller. But I will double check Run of the Mill because I haven't heard it in a minute. (I used to own Rocka Rolla on vinyl, with the Coke bottle cap on the cover? Lost it in a storage unit auction many years ago. Sadly.)

Also there is another one who hit a note just as high and that's Ralph sheepers on the gamma ray track heading for tommorow and Ralph almost replaced rob Halford in judas priest. VS Tim Owen's.
And Ralph did it again on a track called space eater also from that same gamma ray album also called heading for tommorow from 1990.
But rob was probably the first male to hit such a high note and Rob did hit a lot of high notes on a lot of priest songs.
I would put Dreamer Deceiver/ Deceiver up against against Run of the Mill, both excellent examples of his greatness.
I would love to see your reaction to Priest's "Jawbreaker". The high notes he hits at the end could strip paint off concrete.

Check out Primal Fear! The singer was in Gamma Ray & actually auditioned for Judas Priest in the mid 90s after Rob Halford left, but when he didn’t get the gig, he started up Primal Fear in ‘98ish. Look up “Angel in Black” which is their version of “Painkiller” lol, “Final Embrace” or “Nuclear Fire” 😊🤘

Rob is classically trained. That last note is approximately 21 seconds long. If you'd like to hear Rob's lower range vocals, check out "Halls of Valhalla "
"Dreamer Deciever/Deciever" (STUIO VERSION ONLY Please) is the best of his Vocal work period. Its 2 songs that go together as one. Please dont seperate these 2 songs. This song will touch you deeply, both vocally, and also musically with Glen Tiptons soulful guitar playing. If you love that as much as i believe you will, then the next song choice by Judas Priest, after "Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver" (Studio Version), should be "Beyond the Realms of Death". Their 70s and early 80s era, is where you will find Judas Priests peak, again, both vocally and melodically. Keep going with priest, you are about to fall in love with Robs vocals. (Apparently ive heard he has a 4 Octave Vocal range ...but dont hold me to that). The 2 melodic guitarists are the best you will hear too, and JP was one of the bands that inspired me to learn guitar back in 83.

It's bitter-sweet that you start your official introduction to JP's music with this song. It's the most metal metal song ever, by JP or anyone else - and that's the sweet part.
The bitter part is, all their other songs, while fantastic, cannot touch this song, so there will be that very mild "let down" if you are hoping to find the next "Painkiller".
If someone asks the meaning of heavy metal in one song I play them Painkiller.
In my opinion, Judas Priest has never made a bad song, every album is metal at its finest! Painkiller is my personal favorite album and song, pure metal gold!
To me there is no other song that’s more Heavy Metal than this one 😀. They have been influential since the 70s and not only musically (leather and studs!). They were not my main go to Heavy Metal band (Iron Maiden was) but I always enjoyed their music and this song is an all time classic. Nice to see you being blown away by this. Rock on!
Honestly for a long time I believed that metal music just wasn’t for me and that couldn’t connect with it but this song and vocals just blew me away! I think I’m doing iron maiden next and after this song I can’t wait 🙂💪
Iron Maiden has a large catalogue (just like Priest). The first two albums with Paul Di’Anno are a bit different than the ones with Bruce Dickinson. Paul’s vocals fits great with the more punkier songs of the first two albums, Bruce’s voice fits better in the longer more complex songs they made later in their career. I’d say pick songs from both periods.
Tip : Add Ronnie James Dio to your list (doesn’t matter if you pick a Rainbow, Black Sabbath or Dio song).
As someone said, Painkiller is maybe not the best, but surely the MOST metal album of all time.
If you loved this you will love Iron Maiden especially "Hallowed be thy Name" particularly the live version. Bruce Dickinson will blow your mind.

I saw this one live in 1990. I felt a sharp pain in my left ear during one of the screams. That ear has been a bit off ever since. I think that was the show that finally made me realize that earplugs were a good idea.

Great reaction. I thought my head would explode when I heard Rob live. Now I recommend Japanese all female metal band called Lovebites. They are incredibly talented musicians and also covered this song before, but try "Judgement Day" from their new album. You'll be blown away. @6:55 I choked on my tea when you said this. Here in Australia, we of course have some similar or even the same expressions, but they're not what you hear very often on TH-cam. So, if you love Judas Priest and want to hear some of the more DYNAMIC nature of Rob's voice, I recommend the recording of them doing Dreamer Deceiver / Deceiver on the BBC, which I want to say is from like the early to mid 1970s.... ( th-cam.com/video/Wvlq1F-X6Ko/w-d-xo.html ). It shows a completely different side to their music and Rob's voice. Another great one for his vocals is the song Run of the Mill from their first album.
These guys are from Birmingham/Midlands area of England. Part of the very first Metal groups. Were Metal was invented.
My favorite band since 1980. The older stuff is even more fantastic. You can ‘take on the world like a battering ram’ with Judy Priest once you find what song that lyric came from. Enjoyed your enthusiasm with this.
Most in the metal community either supported him when he officially came out, or simply didn't give a fuck because he is The Metal God. Other artists/bands already knew for a very long time and had his back, too. The metal community really is family-like. Used to be, anyway.

I beg of you, if there's only 1 more JP song that you ever hear, PLEASE listen to Dreamer Deceiver, the studio version!! You will quite possibly need to change your drawers after hearing Rob sing that song. 2 others you will want to hear the studio versions of (before any live ones) are Beyond the Realms of Death and of course, Victim of Changes. After hearing the studio versions, THEN listen to the live versions of those songs and your life will be 99.8 % better for having done so! You have my word! ✌️ Scouts Honor!!

You should check out some of the bands older live recordings. I'll recomend "Sinner" recorded in 1982 and "Dreamer /deciever" from 1976. I promise, you wont regret it.

Rob Halford and JUDAS PREIST have been world famous since the 70’s! They are one of THE metal bands. Rob is considered one of the very best Hard Rock singers ever. They have a very large catalog. You probably won’t hear many people mention this, but I’m a lifelong fan and know what I’m talking about. You really need to hear the album Hell Bent For Leather if you really want to know what they sound like. The song Running Wild is a great example. The entire album is one of the reasons why they are huge and have been for so long. I’ve seen them live in concert 21 times over the decades. Like I said, I know what I’m talking about. Riding on the Wind is also a badass song from their critically acclaimed album Screaming For Vengeance! Those 2 albums will tell you everything you need to know about the band. Have some loud fun!

There are actually a few Judas Priest songs that u can cover as a soul singer - 'Last Rose of Summer'... 'Before the dawn'... 'Angel'... For a heavy metal band, they could play some touching music too! I can give u some more info...
Rob Halford was raised in Birmingham, and it was a rough upbringing in what was known as 'black country' because of the heavy industry... He claimed he realized he was gay in his early teens, and in the conservative North country in the 60's, that revelation could get u killed or worse. So, he kept it secret and got into rock music as a way to express himself creatively... he began singing and performed in a few local Birmingham bands by the early 70's... That was when he met guitarist K.K. Downing.
Growing up in Birmingham, (Kenneth) K.K. Downing came from an abusive family background... and to escape, he got into music in the 60's as a career choice and picked up a guitar, influenced by the blues... He saw a local band in the area named Judas Priest (after a Bob Dylan song) and auditioned for them around 1971, joining founding lead singer Al Atkins, and bringing in his friend from school, Ian Hill on bass. This was around the time Birmingham natives Robert Plant & John Bonham of Led Zeppelin were becoming famous... and then Birmingham's Black Sabbath also broke big in 1970... Judas Priest knew the members of Black Sabbath and would often rehearse where they did and played local gigs around the area.
By 1973, Judas Priest were a prolific Birmingham rock band, but no closer to making a living wage... Singer Al Atkins decided to leave and get a day job w/ a family to support. Bassist Ian Hill was dating a girl named Sue Halford, and she suggested her brother Rob Halford should join Priest as the new singer... K.K. Downing met Rob Halford and decided to give him a shot. As it turned out, he was exactly what they needed - a singer who could sing high, long and loud... Eventually, the other members discovered Rob Halford was gay, but kept it a secret. The band kept getting better as a live band and by 1974, record labels started to show interest in Judas Priest.
Around 1974, a small label named Gull Records was willing to fund a Judas Priest album, but they made some demands... some being rather silly. But one of them was adding a 2nd guitar player... It was then, when a still-mysterious figure named Glenn Tipton was introduced to Priest... Glenn Tipton was older and had some more experience playing in the Birmingham scene, but he was intensely private (even to this day) and had been a singing guitarist in a trio called The Flying Hat Band. He was approached about joining Judas Priest and recording their first album... Guitarist Glenn Tipton opted to join temporarily, but found himself at home very quickly and was pretty much running Judas Priest w/ K.K. Downing from 1975 for most of their career. He and K.K. Downing also were responsible for perfecting the twin-lead guitar attack in heavy metal music. So, it was Glenn Tipton & K.K. Downing (guitars), Rob Halford (vocals), Ian Hill (bass) and drummer John Hinch (at the time).
Judas Priest released their first album 'Rocka Rolla' in 1974, but even though it had potential, it sold poorly... the band recalled asking for a salary to survive, but were turned down... They were literally starving between gigs as they recalled. Gull records was able to finance a 2nd album 'Sad wings of destiny' in 1976, and although it perfected Priest's sound and delivery (w/ Alan Moore on drums), it sold poorly again... and Judas Priest were on the verge of splitting up by 1977. However, 'Sad wings of destiny' had sold decently in the USA, and CBS Records in America offered to sign Judas Priest and ended up taking them out from Gull records.
In 1977, Priest's 3rd album 'Sin after sin' marked the band's rebirth as they toured the US for the first time and their record started to become faster and more sonically aggressive... That natural progression also lead to Rob Halford seeking to enhance & toughen the image and indulged in S&M outfits from sex shops in London... He wore leather and studs w/ leather boots and a whip, and that image was adopted by all the Judas Priest members, which also inspired a new wave of British metal bands to mimic that image. Halford also brought in a Harley motorbike that he would ride onto the stage during their set and embraced the term 'heavy metal music'... Priest albums began to pick up sales in the UK, Europe and USA in the late 70's and they toured Japan for the first time in 1979, releasing the live album 'Unleashed in the East'.
In 1980, the band's 6th album 'British Steel' broke big worldwide w/ 2 huge singles - 'Living after midnight' and 'Breaking the law'...w/ Dave Holland (drums) joining. They were now headlining tours and becoming a premiere heavy metal band globally... 7th album 'Point of entry' (1981) took some rebuke for toning down their aggression... but the 8th album 'Screaming for vengeance' was a huge hit in 1982 w/ the the anthemic single "You've got another thing coming"... followed by the 1984 album 'Defenders of the faith'... Unfortunately, the Priest image being so macho added public pressure on Rob Halford, who was gay and unable to be himself... so, he indulged in drugs, alcohol and self-destructive behavior that would lead to a suicide attempt in 1986 (which was kept secret for years after) Halford reflected that he "hit the wall severely" and needed to get himself back together... He gave up drinking, but was still not encouraged in the 80's to reveal himself as gay... but by that point, it was the worst-kept secret in music.
Priest wanted more commercial success w/ their 1986 album 'Turbo'... but their sales had peaked. Their 1988 album 'Ram it down' was a success, but Judas Priest saw bands like Metallica and Anthrax doing better that time around.
In 1990, Judas Priest were sued in court for allegedly inspiring a grisly double-suicide in Nevada by 2 of their fans... A cover song from 1978 ('Better by you, better than me' by Spooky Tooth) was alleged to have a 'subliminal' command to "do it"... Priest was exonerated when it was determined that "do it" was an accidental sound.
Judas Priest in 1990 delivered their angriest album 'Painkiller' and spent 1991 touring on it w/ Scott Travis (drums) joining... but by 1992, Rob Halford decided that he had enough and announced that he was leaving Judas Priest... he emerged w/ a more aggressive metal band Fight in 1993... an industrial rock band 2wo in 1998, and then a metal outfit Halford in 2000.
With Rob Halford gone... a replacement singer was a tough call, but Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing decided on American singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens in 1996... Despite their falling popularity without Halford, Priest released 'Jugulator' in 1997 and returned to tour in 1998... It was followed by the album 'Demolition' (2001) and another tour... But neither Priest nor Rob Halford were selling the records like they had in the 80's.
In 2004, Judas Priest had finally announced a reunion tour w/ Rob Halford on vocals after 12 years apart... Their record sales improved by 2005 w/ the album 'Angel of Retribution'... and the concept album 'Nostradamus' (2008)... In 2010, K.K. Downing (guitar) announced that he was leaving Judas Priest, and he was replaced by Richie Faulkner (guitar) in 2011... It was supposed to be their 'final' tour, but a new album 'Redeemer of Souls' emerged in 2014... and then 'Firepower' in 2018... both records selling well so late in their career.
In 2018, Judas Priest announced that guitarist Glenn Tipton was afflicted w/ Parkinson's disease, and would not be touring w/ the band... their producer Andy Sneap stepped up on 2nd guitar. A new Judas Priest album is in the works... former guitarist K.K. Downing recently formed his band K.K.'s Priest w/ singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens and is working on a 2nd album due out in 2023.

Funny you should make a Jesus joke because I always thought this song was about our lord and savior. I had the honor and privilege of witnessing the glory of Judas Priest live in 1991 and can attest that Rob hit all these high notes at that time. I feel so fortunate because the band was at their peak and I was so close to the stage that it felt like the pyro would burn my eyebrows off. Maybe still the best concert I've ever been to.

Halford is absolutely a force in metal singing history. He is probably in most metal fans top 5. Another commentor suggested Lovebites, the all-female Japanese power metal band. You should definitely give that one a go. They are the future of heavy metal. Now, for my suggestion, if you have not already heard him, is of course, Dimash Kudiabergen. If you are unaware of him, he is, what many vocal coaches consider, the best vocalist that has ever existed since we have been able to record the human voice. He has 7 and possible 8 usable octaves. There really is nobody like him. Many saw he is an angel, other say he is an alien. A great song to start out with is "SOS live at the Slavic Bazar." It is from 2018 and it is a song he sings in French. It is an incredibly difficult song and quite amazing to hear...and it is only the tip of the iceberg.

Alright Judas Priest lead singer! That's a Metal God you're talking to! I grew up in a small town in the 70s. We had one pop station to listen to. My only salvation for any real music was Record Bar. I went in one day and saw a Judas Priest cassette. Never heard of them but I had a good feeling. I ended up having to buy that cassette three times I played it so much.

Yeah Rob Halford is a icon, not only for his singing, but his fashion and what he has done for gays in metal. Not that he made a big deal out of the last part, a bit like Freddy Mercury, both wanted to be judged for there skill not there sexuality. And that's cool, and of course they're one of kind en each of there genres.

you should now listen to one of there first releases from 1974 "Rocka Rolla" from the Album of the same name. A very different band at this time , but Rob is still rockin it! you'll also get a kick out of the silk robes and Rob's long hair.
This song is absolutely crazy and one of the best metal songs of all time HAHAHAHA. While Rob is great on record he is even better in his live concerts from the 80s. His vocal abilities are amazing.

If you want a band that sounds similar to (VERY similar to) Judas Priest, you should check out Primal Fear. When Rob left Judas Priest back in 1992, Ralf Scheepers tried out for the position but didn't get it (Tim "Ripper" Owens got the job). He then went on to form Primal Fear who have since released 13 albums of kickass metal. Anyways, Tim lasted for 2 albums with Judas Priest and then Rob re-joined the band and has been with them ever since. Judas Priest just released a new album this year and it's really quite good (same with their previous one from 2018. PS...I really enjoy your reactions. Cheers!

Judas Priest was my introduction to Metal music. I was 7 when Sad Wings of Destiny was released and I've loved them since. Over 40 years a Metal fan and there is a band out there now redefining the genre. They also happen to be a reaction channel staple whose name I have to ask you to add to the list - *Jinjer* - "Pisces" is the song most start with, but my vote is for "Perennial live at Wacken Open Air 2019". An amazing band from Ukraine.

I didn't get into Priest until I found Screaming for Vengeance in my older brother's record collection in 1982 when I was 12, but they were the first true metal band I got into, & were easily my favourite band for many years (& might still be, I'm not sure). Jinjer has reignited my interest in music after about 20 years of near dormancy. I *adore* Jinjer.

@@BTAColorado After hearing Screaming For Vengeance, I joined Columbia House & bought a bunch of Priest albums. I remember the 1st time I put on The Best of Judas Priest, I thought "WTF is *this?".* After my ears got a bit acclimatized, I fell in love with songs like "Dying to Meet You", "Never Satisfied", the legendary "Victim of Changes", "Island of Domination" & "Deceiver", which earned me the label "burnout" from my friends, LOL. I quickly picked up their entire back catalogue. To this day, my favourite Priest song, maybe my favourite song *period,* is "Run of the Mill" (the mix on the Hero, Hero album is best). Such a great, long & diverse discography.

still touring in fact they are on their 50th tour now from creation and Rob now in his 70's can't hit the notes but he still does a decent job. Some songs he just can't hit have been removed from the set for lower octave songs

Oh, you have no idea the talent in metal vocalists. Dracula by Iced Earth, Seven Seals by Primal Fear, middle of a heartbeat by Helloween, Fiddler on the Green by Demons and Wizards, Raven Child by Avantasia, the day the world breaks down by Ayreon, thank you pain by the Agonist, Pisces by Jinjer, to the Hellfire by Lorna Shore, Duda by Stravaganzza, Alive or Undead by Powerwolf. Some of the best voices in metal in my opinion.
Oh and if you want a band that has taken the Judas Priest sound in a different direction then highly suggest metal woman by three inches of blood.

Let me tell you, as a huge rock and metal fan, I usually like Metal music reaction videos, especially from accomplished musicians from different genres, but yours are something else, love the humor, the knowledge and the curiousity you have for a completely foriegn music genre (and the accent ofc).
