I really miss the trips I used to take on Amtrak. Thanks to your wonderful videos I still can! I really feel like I am traveling again! The scenery is beautiful and the food delicious. I remember liking Amtrak food I remember lights out both in coach and in deluxe room . Thanks for bringing the experiences back to me. Way better than flight. 😮
I’m from Maine but have lived in Massachusetts… currently I live in Nevada….all different but each has great things to offer….thanks again for another awesome vlog…. Be well
So glad you enjoyed sometime in my hometown of Wash DC. I love walking thru downtown DC to take in all the monuments and museums. It never gets old for me!
We just completed Orlando to Raleigh on Silver Star, Raleigh to Charlotte on Piedmont, Charlotte to New York on Carolinian and New York back to Orlando on Silver Meteor! Vlogs coming soon! All in coach but all FREE with Amtrak Guest Rewards Points! Thanks for all the helpful tips! We have so many ideas and videos coming out thanks to you guys! We also continue our Amtrak Station Tours videos too every Saturday night! Safe travels you two and once again thank you for all you do to make our TH-cam dreams come true as well.
Thanks for the information. My husband and I will be taking our first train ride to Washington, D.C. next month. Thank you for the valuable information.
Wow, took almost that exact trip about a month ago... San Diego to LA to Emeryville to Chicago to DC. We managed to be on time the whole way, but still gave ourselves hotels in E'ville, Chicago and DC. No point stressing about connections. GREAT views until Denver, then, well, lots of farms and industry.
You guys are amazing, and I enjoy your train trips so much. I would love to travel across the USA via train with my son. I think we would get two roomettes across from each other. Thank you for the inspiration. Safe travels!
Good job! What an epic adventure! The Transitional Sleeper cars were once for staff only, but in order to make up for losses, the decision was made to sell Roomettes in spaces designated for employees. The Superliner Sleeper Cars have held up after 30+ years of service, but they're beginning show their age. When the announcement was made that Superliner cars would be "refreshed" I believed there would be more than new carpets, curtains, & seat covers. Electrical & plumbing in these cars need updating. There's no word when new Superliner equipment will be built.
Your videos have been a game changer for our later years! We travelled in Midwest on trains when our children were young and home but……now we look for train first. Last year after an Alaskan cruise we came across on the Empire Builder. Booked for Great Lakes and New York this fall.
Your editing is a great mystery. You show a scene on the Nevada desert but not Ruby Canyon, Glenwood Springs, etc. Then. Corn field in Iowa. Your “off menu” dinner was because you were running so late. Coach passengers also get the same. Depends on availability of food-the beef stew is a regular. But sometimes the train is met a station stop with Subway, pizza or KFC. As mentioned already the Moffat Tunnel is out of sequence. Too bad you don’t include some unique sights like the gorgeous interior of the Denver Union Station. Passing Sox Park comes before crossing the Dan Ryan Expressway.
California is my pick. I was born and raised here, and despite some drawbacks, I would never live anywhere else. I do enjoy travel, but it's great to come home.
Watch out for that Metropolitan Lounge in D.C. When I was there last October sitting on one of the couches, a fairly decent-sized rat came walking out from behind the counter where the food is served and came walking right up to me looking for hand outs. Obviously, someone had been feeding this big guy. When I told the two young ladies that were running the lounge at the time, one screamed and the other ran away. Neither girl attempted to actually do anything about it other than hide. 🐀
We were interested in a trip going East from LA to Orlando. Not one part of this trip covered the route we wanted to take. Good video but nothing we could use
at 23:21 said headed to washington dc on the capital limited in a viewliner roomette , i was waiting to see that what do they have two trains with viewliner sleepers serving chicago ?
Really enjoys all your videos and advice guys, Was this a recent trip? I gathered from your other channel that you are currently out of the US and have been for a year or so.
Thanks so much for sharing the Amtrak Points cost! I got 40,000 points for signing up based on your advice! Day-to-day spending on the credit card has already given me 12,000 additional points. Robert in NYC.
Great video! DC is where I've been living for the past 24 years, so I've had a chance to see all the DC sites shown in the video including the Phoenix Park hotel. I'm hoping to have more of my own train trips in the future to see some of the places I haven't seen.
Thank you guys, I recently found your travel channels. I’m curious about the weight capacity of the penthouse bed and length since I’m 6’1”. After 20 years in the Navy, 5 years at sea, I’m used to a coffin locker which has far less space than the penthouse. My wife is still living in Thailand while I finish up my remaining months working in Kuwait and then retire a second time. She has never been to the USA and seeing our country from Amtrak instead is driving seems like a great intro to the US. She’s probably be ok in the penthouse but knowing the weight capacity of the upper bunk would allow her the option of taking the lower bunk. I noticed in your 11 don’t do this tips that you mentioned being in Japan. I was there 92-96, Atsugi and then caught the ship in Yokosuka. I may be wrong but I kind of get an Air Force vibe from your videos. Yokota? Anyway onward with the travels. Trying to figure out how to book far in advance might be an issue when trying to take Cal Zephyr and then go up with the Floridian. Haven’t spent much time on the East Coast but visiting DC is on the list, then up to Maine for lobster. If a person books a trip and their train is late and missed a pre booked trip, will Amtrak adjust the trip or are we just out the money we already paid? I’m thinking they’d adjust the next leg and not charge again since the delay is their concern. Sorry, one idea to the next. Cruise ship travel after I look at trains. Cheers, thanks again. Wayne
Love your videos! We are looking at booking from Seattle to Florida next year. Would you book as one trip through Amtrak or would you book each leg separate with a night stay at each major switching city (Chicago, DC). What would they do if you booked as one trip and you missed your connection?
Another GREAT video, I am learning so much about Amtrak, thank you so much!!!! I want to find out more about the different Cars... So I also would like to ask about rental cars if I may? I guess that it is not possible to get a rental car if a train stops at a station in the middle of the night????
Let me get this straight. The “vacation” is from Burbank to Miami on four trains. The video trip is then made possible by editing in four previous trips on each train? I love this channel but I expect to see fresh video even if the route has been filmed before. If you can’t keep up because you have too many channels then something is going to suffer.
Word has it that somewhere around November 9th, the Silver Meteor will become a Miami- Washington DC-Chicago Train. The DC -Chicago Portion will replace the Capitol Limited.
Interesting concept! It could be Viewliner or Superliner. However, I don't think one New York-South Florida train would be enough. Better that the new train have both Chicago and New York sections. When the northbound run is late, the New York section (which would have to be single level) could be tacked onto the next Northeast Regional train.
Yeah, it’s so ridiculously expensive and unless you use their credit card to gather extra points, it takes forever to amass enough points to travel in a roomette or bedroom free of charge. My husband doesn’t fly, so our only recourse is to drive or take the train. It’s as expensive as staying at the most expensive hotel but the accommodations do not match the expense!
When I lived in Japan I traveled on the bullet train from Tokyo to Hiroshima and it was about $300USD. I don’t know if Amtrak prices are justified but it does seem like a good experience maybe one time type deal
How far a walk is the Sonesta hotel (Emeryville) from the train station? Are other people also walking around the area? I ask this because you arrived in Emeryville at night
All videos are good videos. Good teaching tools. If this is a recycled video then I don’t care. Just like to know the date because some things do change. Now, on the positive side. 1 enjoyed seeing how a grown up looks like on the top bunk. Those bunks look to be more suited for teenage athletes. 2. The shower was a good example. 3. And the view of the stairs. Ikr. I be watching to intently. The best state are all of them. Every place pretty much has the same pluses and minuses. Enjoyed the video. Enjoyed the info about buy one get one free!!! My theory is if they offer once they will again and again!!!
Could you please tell me the best way to book a round-trip trip on the Empire builder from Minneapolis to Seattle? I have tried the Amtrak app and am completely frustrated with it.
I am from LA, Cali and thinking of taking a similar route with the spouse later during the year. What I noticed is that some of the destinations like San Francisco and Sacramento have "Mixed Services" to their destinations. I don't believe seen any of your train travel videos with that to understand the experience. Or is it better to avoid the mixed services and go direct single train?
Hi from Australia I am planning a trip to the US and what I am doing is taking a train from Los Angeles to Chicago and then Chicago to Emeryville San Francisco and I know that you have said that the empire builder would be a lot better train ride than the Texas eagle In your opinion what would be the better journey to get to Chicago because I would like to come back on the California zephyr Thanks David 😁 🇭🇲👍
I purchased your Retirement Travel Jumpstart course. Should I have received a coupon code to apply to your TH-cam after 40 course, effectively giving me the bundled price? If so, I did not receive the code, or maybe I'm not looking in the correct place. .
when i go to usa i always fly with virgin atlantic 1st class fly into lax have 1 week there then i have a conecting flight to orlando free for my return trip to london heathrow stay at cypress cove naturist resort for 1 month just south of kissimee i must have about 1mill air miles but saving for next trip
At 13.00 the shot of Donner Lake has the train traveling going east to west. Not possible since the train is supposed to be going west to east! If you are going to recycle videos then take the time to do it right. Regardless I watch all your train videos.
I hope Amtrak puts the design of the Superliner II bathrooms in the trash, because they are just too confining. That was strange, because most of the other changes from the Superliner I were improvements. And one outlet in the room is a joke! Now they need to restore Traditional Dining to the remaining long-distance trains that don't have it back yet.
Roomettes are horrible. Still have to use a community bathroom, community shower, someone has to sleep in the upper bunk which is claustrophobic. The only advantage is the sleeper dining car. Even the rooms are old and cramped. Not to mention how freaking expensive rooms are on Amtrak. We've done our time on Amtrak. No more overnights. Day trips only.
I don’t mind recycling old videos if you’re honest about it but the way you present it as a new trip and finding recycled material makes me not trust your content. I really enjoy your videos but get upset feeling that you have misrepresented the trip. The circulator bus in dc hasn’t been free since 2021.
This is almost a frame by frame copy of a video they posted 2 years ago. I agree with you, fine upload old content, but at least state that. It's literally the same video from before with a different ending.
6:04 More overhyping of the roomettes, which are cramped and uncomfortable. Who cares if you have to get food from the cafe? You can bring your own food, and for the most part, you have MORE room in a coach seat. Oh, but you don't eat in the dining car? Who cares! The food is not that great, and it certainly NOT worth the 3-5x cost of coach, as much as the channel wants to justify their always booking one.

Hubby and I are going on our first Amtrak train trip 7/11/2024 Chicago to Emeryville❤. Have really appreciated all your videos thank you!

Perfect ..I would just add route maps each time you stop.
I have learned so much about Amtrak travel from your channel ❤ Thank you !
The Moffat Tunnel 16:05 is out of sequence, with scenes showing the Colorado River AFTER going eastwards through the tunnel.
❤Love you guys ❤Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences ❤You guys are loved ❤
You all lucked out with crowds and congestion almost everywhere. I would love all that solitude to my super introverted self. 😮😊
You guys are amazing, and I enjoy your train trips so much. I would love to travel across the USA via train with my son. I think we would get two roomettes across from each other. Thank you for the inspiration. Safe travels!
For those who are not aware there is a subway station (not food related) in the Union Station which is useful to get around DC area if you have time.
Good job! What an epic adventure! Welcome to (though it was very brief) San Jose. Wonderful trip and beautiful scenery thanks for sharing 💖

While you describe the second day of the Zephyr as "the prettiest part" of the trip, I really think the trip through the Sierras is every bit as nice.
We were interested in a trip going East from LA to Orlando. Not one part of this trip covered the route we wanted to take. Good video but nothing we could use

I miss the Pacific Lounge car that used to be a part of the consist of the Coast Starlight.

Looks generally boring, uncomfortable, and over expensive. Glad you liked it 😮 29:29

Coast Starlight along the Pacific and through the Cascades, spend a day or two in Seattle and take Empire Builder to Chicago.

If your seats are facing west then you would be heading north. Unless that’s not the Pacific Ocean.
I’m from Illinois but… I would pick Michigan before New York! 🤷♀️😂
Massachusetts

The word gorgeous is misspelled just to let you know.
I see the lack of response from the authors tells all….
I'm favoured, $27K every week! I can now give back to the locals in my community and also support God's work and the church. God bless America.
As a beginner what do I need to do? How can I invest, on which platform? If you know any please share.
It's Mrs Sonia Duke of course
Did you get boosted in Burbank...lots of POCs there 🤔
Is it safe for a single female to travel on Amtrak??
Why the face masks in Burbank? Is this current? Why not just fly

Think Alaskas then CA are the best states. Yet I was born in Wash state.
Old, old, old video . After the TH-cam check.
Washington Memorial? you said it right the first time as the Jefferson Memorial. Easy slip up no biggie thought it was funny

I noticed that immediately with so many people wearing masks.
Why are they reusing video as new. I am stopping my notifications. Should have disclaimer. Wonder how long they have been tricking their viewers.
When will you be doing new content?
How about new European content?
Old video.. You guys have not been in the states for a LONG time. Disappointed!!!

Too expensive for a 120 old mode of travel
Have you two ever invited your children on Amtrak to make it a family affair..
Is this a repost from years past! SMH!😢
It is the last few videos have all been old videos, but they try to make them seem like they are new smh
Why the heck are you guys still wearing masks are you kidding me take those masks off
