--------
In this clip, the topics of Hollywood greats Denzel Washington and Samuel L. Jackson were discussed, along with their impacts on film. Aries Spears pointed out the shared longevity, vast body of work, and immense talent between the two actors. The conversation veered toward who may be the better actor, with mentions of Washington's "Equalizer" movie series as proof of his unimpeachable acting skills. Jackson, on the other hand, was touted for his historical plethora of roles. Aries Spears disagreed with Michael Jai White's view on the topic, which stated that Samuel L. Jackson could play any of Denzel Washington's roles. Washington's acting depth was highlighted, citing a range of his roles, from civil rights leaders to drug kingpins and his ventures into Shakespeare. Despite the debate, it remained clear that both Washington and Jackson were respected icons in the film industry. - บันเทิง

I think the issue is Denzel WUDNT play those slave ass roles Samuel L Jackson played..
There is no way in the world Sam Jackson could take the same roles as Denzel. Two TOTALLY different actors & styles
Yes there is a reason why both actors were chosen for the films they were in. One has nothing to do with the other. Two different styles of acting. Both masters of their craft.
Why is this even a topic. Seems stupid to me
Exactly
This!
@@RichWeigel Most definitely
Aries' argumentative skills are ac second to none. Even if you don't agree the way he structures everything and comes with mad examples is amazing.
Agreed. I think a lot of top tier comedians are highly intelligent. He's definitely a smart man.
Very well put and good observation. One thing about him that some guests on here don't have it's at least a logical explanation to support their perspective. Although I don't always agree, once he explains it's more like "oh, I see where he's coming from".
That's what separates him....but can also make some people write checks, they ass can't cash lol
he is having an amazing Renaissance.
AGREED BRO.
I love Samuel L. Jackson, but Denzel is just on another level with his acting versatility and skills.
Denzel is the same person in every movie
Denzel and SLJ are both powerhouse talent, difference is SLJ had taken more risks with his roles and his movies have a wider range. As good as Denzel is, his movies typically involve him solving a mystery/saving the day, being a cop or portraying a real life person. But SLJ's strength is also his weakness because hes been in some pretty bad movies which are also part of his legacy.
One thing about Aries, if he’s got an opinion about something, he won’t be afraid to share and defend it with unwavering fervor
Yo, I wonder what his opinion on pedophilia is.

@@bjt81366weird guy
Even when he's embarassingly wrong.
@bjt81366 let it go, it was a miscalculated psa.
The Hurricane, Philadelphia, Crimson Tide, The Siege, Remember The Titans, Courage Under Fire, The Great Debaters, Flight, The Pelican Brief & Antwone Fisher are all roles that require the gravitas and controlled power that Denzel is able to bring contrasted with his ability to hit some of the softer and more subtle notes required. While Jackson has great range and the ability to be dynamic and get real loud he lacks the control that Denzel has over his performances. It's like comparing a Hellcat with a Porsche, the Hellcat is as fast or faster than many Porsche models in a straight line on a drag strip, but if you raced them on a track with a lot of twist and turns and straightaways the Porsche will win every single time.
Like you said, the gravitas is the difference. I love both, but Sam just doesn't have the same commanding presence.
"he lacks the control" TF you say? Have you seen Unbreakable? Resurrecting the champ? The One(can't remember the title)where he plays a mentally ill guy living in a cave? Even his voice acting work as Afro Samurai. Yes Denzel has some intense impactul roles but the no1 quality for an all time great actor is versatility and the ability to shape-shift

It's not a question of if they can switch roles. It's more a question of if the movie would've had the same impact. Like with Sam Jackson's style I think Training Day would've been more comedic than how Denzel played it. And movies like Book of Eli, Ricochet, Fallen, Out Of Time, were def more suited for Denzel.
The only Denzel character I despised was Troy in Fences. What a terrible man.
On the other hand there are a several roles when I was glad Sam’s character got his e.g. Stephen, and the shark movie.
@@SmartDave60 But it's because he played Stephen without a lick of "charm" about him on purpose and he was so slimy yet still managed to make us laugh and piss us off all at the same time. It was a genius performance. We didn't want to see Sam get offed because he was annoying in the role, he MADE us want to see him killed. Denzel intentionally put himself earlier in his career up as his eras Sidney Poitier which is why he always found a way to make us sympathize with his characters and at a certain point he finally ventured outside that comfort zone with roles like Training Day and Flight, where he ironically got the most praise. People think he can't do comedy because he's never really tried. I definitely think if Denzel wanted to he could...
@dawb86 I agree with Denzel being able to pull off comedy. I think with the right script, it could be his most acclaimed role.
@@inmyhumbleopinion_ it would have to be something like Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby from the 70s.
Obviously Denzel playing the Poitier straight man role.
If sam played it first you would say the reverse
Samuel L Jackson was brilliant in Hateful Eight. Couldn't see Denzel killing it as Samuel in that one. Brilliant!
Hateful eight, Django, Pulp fiction, this list goes on. You can replace Sam with Denzel but not vice versa.

Denzel is Versatile. He makes you feel those emotions throughout any role. He's almost like Tupac in that terms. Not saying Sam ain't great but Denzel is legendary.!
They’re both versatile. But yeah, Denzel is definitely the better actor.
Great actors make the role feel like it was written specifically for them. I couldn’t see Denzel playing Jules from ‘Pulp Fiction’ like Samuel did it and I couldn’t see Samuel playing Malcolm like Denzel did. That being said, they’re both masterful performers so they could have played each other’s roles but the dynamics of the performances would’ve been different so we’d have appreciated them for different reasons than the versions we got….
Pay Charleston White !
The Jules role requires comedy.
Not Denzel’s strong suit.
@@SmartDave60 A lot of people don't know that originally Quentin was going to put Paul Calderon in the Jules role. (The guy that played the bartender in the film, "Yo, Vincent Vega. Our man in Amsterdam. Jules Winfield, our man in Inglewood. Get your asses on in here!") Don't get me wrong, Paul's another good actor but if he seemed like he could play the part to QT, I would be amazed to think Denzel couldn't at least do a decent job in the role lol....
I don’t think Denzel could have pulled off the Jeri Curl , like Sam Jackson 😂😂😂😂

Sam Jackson is one of my all-time favorite actors. This isn't to downplay his talent in any way. However, the roles Denzel portrays demand a more sophisticated appearance and demeanor. They both possess distinct on-screen characteristics that set them apart.
Ironically, not only was Samuel L Jackson at one point considered for Denzel's role in Training Day, his voiceover role in the game Grand Theft Auto was inspired by the same police officer that inspired Alonzo Harris in Training Day, Raphael Perez

Denzel also did "2 Guns" with Mark Wahlberg. That was a action comedy.
In the late 70s early 80s when they were all struggling young actors they were in a club of sorts. Sam Jackson, Denzel Washington, Robert Townsend and a couple of other black struggling actors. Sam Jackson and Denzel were actually in a soldier story on Broadway, but Sam Jackson wasn't in the movie. They are both incredible legendary actors though🤷🏿

You can definitely make the argument that Sam Jackson has shown a lot more versatility/ range over the years, but I still think Denzel's highest high points are still far superior to anything Sam has done. That's not a diss tho, they are both legends in their own regard.
Denzel was actually up for the Pulp Fiction role first. He turned it down. Denzel has said Sam owes him for that as it was his breakout role.

Both legends in their own right. Some roles could be interchangeable but some roles I couldn't see the other playing it at all.
Best answer.
What has to be considered with regards to both Denzel and Samuel is that each iconic role that they played was woven to fit each one's character traits. Although there are some roles that each could have played, there are those that are best suited for that particular actor. They are both, in my opinion, legends in their own right...

True. Michael Jai White could've done a couple of Wesley's roles from the 90s and even some of Will's parts. (I, Robot for example) Doesn't make him a better or worse actor, good actors can do capable jobs in good roles, that's all...

Samuel could possibly play Denzel's roles but it would look a lot different. I guess that's like saying he couldn't play Denzel's roles. They are different.
Completely different actors. Both have incredible range, but they are just different. If Samuel was in training day, it wouldn’t have the same tone as a lead actor. But Denzel also wouldn’t give off the same vibe as a Jedi in Star Wars
No two actors are going to play a role the exact same.
@robj2027 that's true. You can see that when movies are remade. Look at all of the different actors who have played Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday in westerns.
