Great video! I thought how you touched on Mike’s range of lyrics was spot on, and I had never really thought about that before. I loved them growing up because they were fast, offensive, and punk rock, but even today as a grown ass man it’s hard for me to listen to certain songs he’s written, for example My Orphan Year. It’ll make you feel something real.
Dude, it's so damn hard to narrow it down to 5. Your picks made me think about what my criteria would be. Is it the songs that hit on a sociological level? (Decline, Fish In A Gun Barrel, Eat The Meek) Are they the songs that are the most rhythmically complex? Harmonically dense? The emotional songs? (Falling In Love, Drop The World) The funny songs? (Hotdog in a Hallway, Drink, Drive, Spill, My Vagina, Fun Things To Fuck) The songs that just make you wanna chug beer and do rails? Songs that are special to me for personal reasons? Songs that lift my spirits? Songs that I just happen to listen to the most? The songs that just don't sound like anything else I've ever heard? (Pods And Gods) The covers? I don't even know where to begin.
@@BurntDisc I guess I'd be representing the hipsters, so, I will accept your apologies for your list. 1. The Quass - Great to kick off any NOFX mix tape. It starts out sounding like the band is just checking their gear. As the song takes shape, I start to feel charged and then you're hit with a wall of harmonies and the titular lyrics. It's glorious, short and funny. It'll probably never lead into any other song as well as it does Dying Degree, but whatever. 2. The "Heard They Suck Live" version of Beer Bong - Another great intro, the drum rhythm sounds like it's falling over itself. It just makes me feel like an ape; arms swinging low in the pit, shoulder checking and then you sing the ends of each verse line and then the chorus hits and its mayhem. Pure hilarious bliss. Pock marked by the belching/farting breaks and Hefe's "Do'h!" It's a ridiculous party anthem with a red carpet entrance that fills me with adrenaline and it's hilarious. 3. My Name Is Bud (I like the re-recorded version off the "Bottles To The Ground" single, but the "Fuck The Kids" version is good too) - I do not know the inspiration for this song, but it's another example of what I love about NOFX; adrenaline-inducing, unimportant, unserious or funny subject matter, this is charged ecstasy in under a minute. This song is my temporary cure for depression and my definition of fun. (also good reckless driving music) 4. Talkin About Yo Mama - One night hanging out and drinking and listening to records when this song came on I grabbed my friend by his stupid flannel collar and screamed this song into his face. He was laughing, it was funny. Good times. 5. Jamaica's Alright - definitely a hipster pick since I think you can only listen to it if you got the 7 inch from the first record ROTM club. It's silly. I like silly I guess. This song puts me in a good mood and makes me laugh. (also a good "cleaning up party trash" song) ya. Thanks for asking.

And that's why NOFX are an elite punk band, they can do it all! Let me know when you have your 5 😉
