I can’t believe I just found this, I was a little kid at this concert all alone. I lied to my Mom and said I was meeting my friend and her Mom there and had my Mom drop me off there. I ended up front row and pinned against the stage. I was eventually pulled out by security onto the stage before it ended and was walked out through a stairwell and the whole band came walking on it and all said hello to me. It was a dream come true.
I can count at least 6 scenes that are EXACTLY the same you can see in the Arena VHS, so no doubt this is Oakland. Yeah... I kind of watched that vhs one or two times. (million times)
This is great Scott, I'm going to post this video on my Duran Duran cover band page tomorrow. Being a drummer, I noticed that on the pre chorus of hungry like the wolf (du du du...), Roger Taylor plays at the same time snare drum and Simmons drumpad, I've never listen anything like this on any official or bootleg recording. Yes, it was shot on Super-8, and I was as surprised as you are that I was able to get it, and the film which is clunky, into the auditorium. Back then cameras weren't allowed (still cameras), but whenever I said it was a movie camera, that seemed to confuse everyone, and they let me go in with it. I did have the film thrown out a couple of times, but it was easy to turn around and recover it from the trashcan.
+Paul Logothetis Actually, I take it back. I have more footage of other concerts I attended, but this is all I have for Duran Duran. Wish there was more of it.
Now that you mention it, Eric, I think you're right. I'll look it up and correct the description. I was going to many concerts back in those days, so they all merged together, and the Oakland concerts were pretty far for me to attend. You are right this was more likely 1984. Thanks for the heads up.
I can't even begin to imagine the crowd noise given the level that's here. I mean, it's like a wave of non-stop screaming-that's what I like about this video because it gives an accurate representation of what one of their concerts is like.
Definitely the 1984 tour. February, most likely. 1985 they only played Live Aid and maybe a couple of other gigs. They were busy with the side projects that year. Power Station toured in summer.
I'm pretty sure this was the same night I was there. Film ran out before the confetti drop :( I was seated center stage in the middle level above the floor. I had a great view of the sound/lighting board operators.
Hi, I would like to ask you something since you were present. In all the bootlegs of this single concert the concert lacks friends of mine, crime and passion, my own way and crash in the paviment. Were they played that night? Because in other dates of that tour they are present.
D XD - Doubtful, but I have the Super-8 if the technology comes along that can work its witchcraft. I think I was too far away from the stage and the equipment (a Canon Super-8 camera with a boom mike on top) was just a little primitive, and the Ektachrome I was using (ASA 160) didn’t bring in as much light as it needed to in that dark auditorium. Also, the crowd going crazy around me didn’t help with motion. Zooming in just made it worse. But you never know what tech will be developed in ten years that might help with some of those issues.
TBH, if you had more footage I would've invested in tech to help enhance it. It's good seeing another die hard Duran Duran fan out here showing hidden gems like this. You have no idea how much I appreciate this piece. Thank you a million times for it!
D XD - You’re more than welcome. A funny thing about that. I had many more reels of film I had snuck in with my friends, but security confiscated all of it and threw it in the trash. I literally jumped into the garbage bin to retrieve some of it, but could not get all of the Super-8 film cartridges and why I only ended up with a limited amount of footage from the concert.
@@michaelasamuel729 Yeah I agree with that. Audience noise does add to the excitement and energy of the show. Duran Duran has to be the best band in history.. the british empire of the 80s

You can watch the actual Oakland Coliseum 1984 Arena tour film "As The Lights Go Down". It was all filmed at the two 1984 Oakland shows.
