    Very very very useful.

Assessing a candidate's environment rather than the skills and qualities they have seems a little mis-directed. I appreciate that good lighting and sound may help, but this may favour some candidates / hinder others and that's before they've been assessed on competency. I thought the entire procedure was intended to be very impartial, and so a more tolerant attitude could be expected from an interview panel. Furthermore, should a candidate with poor light/sound be appointed then they should be helped to improve their online 'presence', and so this 'disadvantage' disappears.

Hi Lydia, I agree with you. Interviewers shouldn't be distracted by the quality of the background or the audio but many can be even at an unconsious level. It's the same when you have an interview in person, first impressions count. In a competitive job market candidates want to ensure that they are presenting the best of themselves and simple techniques like changing the set up so the window is positioned infront of a person rather than behind them makes a big difference.
