I actually read the Great Gatsby on my own time, because it wasn't mandatory to read at my school, and I loved it. I completely understand why it's a classic and genuinely couldn't stop reading it. Definitely try it out.

I'm fairly convinced George Orwell could see the future. Between Animal Farm and 1984, it was like he was predicting what was going on today. That being said, I LOVED the Scarlet Letter and Night, but I will admit I don't know too many people who actually liked Scarlet Letter.

One of my favorite banned books is Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane! It's an autobiography & coming of age story of a black boy who grew up in apartheid South Africa. It was one of the assigned readings I had to do in HS that I remember truly enjoying. I highly recommend checking it out!

I'm just starting Huckleberry Finn and just finished 1984. I completely agree that banning books is terrible as a general rule. I'm currently buying physical copies of a lot of them because of the resurgence of banning also on case they go out of print and because ebooks can be edited. Look forward to your follow up videos.

I am wanting to reread 1984…I’m just looking for a used copy so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. I bought The Great Gatsby but I haven’t read it yet. Finally, Animal Farm was one that I was supposed to read, so that would be my third. However, I just read Night and I think it’s a really important book and if you haven’t read The Scarlet Letter, it’s definitely worth your time.

I love classic novels, and also am not into book banning, lol I’ve read all of these but most of them were in middle and high school so the details on a few are a bit foggy. George Orwell is a favorite though! I love dystopian novels and I feel like there was a pocket of classics that really thrived when it came to that genre, like George Orwell, A Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451. I don’t personally understand book banning on any of these, they discuss important ideas and are great for developing critical thinking when it comes to government, religion, power, morality, ect.

I've read all these books, some of them several times, all but Night - but that one's on my TBR. I DNF'ed Scarlet Letter - as did half our book club. I just felt like it was dense and uninteresting. I think for pure enjoyment, go with The Great Gatsby. I liked Catcher in the Rye even though it took me awhile to appreciate the style of the main character's voice.

Both were great. Gatsby had a charm to it I very much enjoyed at 16 (not sure if I still would now lol). I get what you're saying, but it doesn't really "Defeat the purpose" when the purpose is to keep them away from children. You're an adult with a car who can go to a bookstore who can safely have those books in your house. You're not a kid who can only get books from the school library, maybe even only reading them there. You're not the target audience.

This video is a bit confusing, you mention book-banning in recent times, like current year, yet bring up books that have been discussed in classrooms for ages. If you had ONE more modern book, at least, it would make some sort of sense. Unless of course the current book-banning efforts are on these, which is odd when there are literal channels on TH-cam promoting books with steamy scenes, books where robots eliminate the human race even though Booktube acts like its a place where LGBTQ people arc cherished (a big lie if they're promoting that book, because there is no way elminating humans as a species fixeds the problems those who identify that way face)...OH NEVERMIND I figured it out, it's because these books are written by dead white men, so it is IS a recent thing. Yep because if someone is a white male, the world hates them. That is the only way this video makes any sort of sense.
