    Hey just wanted to say thank you for such an informative video. It might be second nature for those who live in snow country but as someone from Florida looking to do his first ski trip this was awesome. Thanks again!

    Thanks for going into detail. I've watched at least 15 videos and non of them showed the inside of ski pants.

    Great information on how to stay warm by layering! I wish I knew all that growing up on the ski slopes of the Laurentians.

    Thanks for the useful info, esp to a skiing newbie! A couple of questions: (1) As your outer layer is 2 jacket system, what is the temperature range in which you need 2 jackets and the temperature range in which you don't need the Proton insulated hoodie? Or do you almost always need both? (2) What is the warmest ski gloves brand/model you can recommend? Many thanks.

      Hey thanks! Glad you found it helpful. I wear both jackets in most instances, even when it is 10°-15° above freezing. The warmest ski gloves I’ve used are my white hestra heli mittens, I left a link in the video description

    My baselayer is made of a mix with cotton and doesn' t feel wet and doesn't stink. Löffler Transtex Warm

    I patrol at Jiminy and I’ve been battling with masking. They get wet and I feel like I’m being smothered. I’ve tried to resolve the issue with swapping out masks and drying them out in between. Best I could come up with. I completely agree with layering coats for skiing that I use for hiking too. Multiple uses. Glad you’re getting some skiing in!

    • @FinerBub
      @FinerBub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I hear you about the wet masks mine kept freezing up too. It’s a bummer and a pain to deal with but it’s better than no skiing. I bet there’s a solution to the wet mask issue. Maybe someone will make a goretex one or something lol. Have you tried Ruroc helmets? I wonder if that rigid face mask attachment would help keep the cloth in place

    • @UnlikelyHiker
      @UnlikelyHiker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FinerBub I have not used those helmets but a bunch of the patrollers started using the Mission face gaiters and they make adjustable behind the neck masks. I ordered some. The others seem to prefer them. I think they have a sale buy 3 get one free I think. Maybe check it out

    How should my ski pants fit? I bought some Montec Dune snow pants and theyre great i just dont know if theyre too long on my boots, theyre kinda bunched up and it looks weird.

    • @FinerBub

    Do you wear you base layer pants tucked inside your ski boots? or do you pull them up above?

    • @FinerBub
      @FinerBub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pull them up above. Nothing but thin, wool socks should be in the ski boots.

    • @babelnow
      @babelnow ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FinerBub have you tried any of the knicker or 3/4 length base layers. I was thinking about just cutting off the bottoms of a pair.

    • @FinerBub
      @FinerBub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not tried them although I know a lot of people who use them. They’re a good choice for skiing but I like having the long ones so that I can use them for other activities as well. I just roll them up while I’m skiing

    I also have an proton lt hoody with an black diamond shell over it. However, I have the black diamond hybrid shell not the soft shell.

      @@FinerBub thanks mate. Is the softshell sufficient and robust or do you sometimes think a Hardshell (hybrid) would be better?

    • @FinerBub
      @FinerBub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For winter time the soft shell is fine. I’d probably only use my hard shell for skiing if I knew it was gonna rain

    Is a hardshell necessary? So you go with two softshells on top of each other basically? I do back country climbing 2k vert in Sierra's then snow board down. Thanks!

    • @FinerBub
      @FinerBub  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I typically only wear a hardshell in the rain. My black Arc'teryx jacket is insulated but is less tear resistant and does not repel moisture as well as my green exterior softshell by black diamond. So they serve different purposes. I'm not a very experienced climber so I can't really speak on that but it is something I'd like to get into. I hope this helps. Thanks for commenting!
