      But he still saw the crack.. it actually is meant to repair it.. it holds the crak together. Even tho you can still see the crack sometimes.. it is now bonded together.. I used to work at a jiffy-lube, and I would do this to rockchips. It keeps the crack from getting wider

    window repair does not make the crack disappear, it prevents further growth of the crack in the windshield. So if you are expecting the crack to disappear, you are looking for the wrong outcome. The idea is to bond the edges of the crack to prevent it from getting worse.

    I had a few small cracks like this on my phone. Used a windshield repair kit on it, although I put a ton on each crack and rubbed it into the crack. (I had latex gloves on) Wiped off the excess before letting it cure then put it into the sun. The cracks are still slightly visible from the right angle, but you can't feel them any more and you can't see them the majority of the time. I ended up throwing a screen protector over it afterwards as well so it wouldn't get any worse. All in all it was definitely worth the 9 bucks I paid for the windshield repair kit and looks a lot better.

    I have done windshield repairs way back when the kits first came out for professionals. Used to be a suction cup, a port to inject the solution, and a ultraviolet or black light to cure it. It don't make the crack disappear, but SEALS it so that the elements can't damage the plastic layer inbetween the two layers of glass for the windshield. So, in essence, the kit did the repair on the phone by protecting the digitizer underneath. Glad you tried it first 😁

    hello, you need uv glue with low viscosity to create a capillary effect! so the uv glue has to be very thin so that it can crawl into the break! and then you also need a uv lamp!
    Best regards, thanks for the video !

    • @213BRANDONP
      @213BRANDONP 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Um y'all confused that's exactly what he is using why do you think he's supposed to put it in the sunlight so the UV from the sunlight can activate the glue maybe

  • @gazsto9510
    @gazsto9510 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The crack needs a solution, somewhat like superglue that can penetrate the glass and bond it as one, sometimes the solutions is not fine enough and sits on the surface and does not go into the crack. What you used is ideal for actial chips and chunks out of glass as it fills the void and then you can scrape the surface so it's level.

  • @davidirwin347

    I see a couple problems with this. One, the injector is designed to push the resin into the crack. You didn't use that, but simply placed the resin over the crack. Two, the resin cures by UV. You did not place it in the sun. You placed it behind a window that filters UV light. And last, you should use the razor blade to remove the strip. By pulling straight up on the strip, you risk pulling the resin from the crack.
    The reason these kits are not designed for phones is because you do not have enough glass to adhere the injector to the glass, and they are not designed to fix cracks larger than a quarter. However, they can be used for larger cracks by rubbing petroleum jelly around the crack and sliding the injector along the crack. But again, a small screen does not have the real estate to mount the injector. That's why they don't have these kits for phone screens. Thinking about it though, why not make an injector with hooks that go around the phone to secure it to the glass? Perhaps you could pull the suction cups off, press the injector against the glass, and carefully inject the resin into the crack. They may also need to create a new resin for Gorilla Glass, as it's properties are unlike that of windshield glass. I believe the existing resin will still work, but you have to be able to inject it into the crack.

    • @davidirwin347
      @davidirwin347 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The kit may work, but you’ll need to use the injector to get the glue into the crack. Then leave the phone outside I’m the shade for about an hour so it can get enough UV light to cure the adhesive. When removing the strip do not pull up on the strip. Use the razor blade under the strip to cut it away from the glue without pulling the glue out of the crack.
      I own a computer repair business. I looked into repairing phones, but my cost on Apple parts was nearly that of a full repair from the Genius Bar. When you factor the labor, it wasn’t worth it. With that I didn’t even look into Android much more. Most of what I found was replacement glass without the digitizer. Separating the broken glass from the digitizer is laborious at best, and digitizers are expensive. So yes, a professional repair is quite expensive. If you still have that phone, or another with a crack, try using the injector and let me know how that works.
      Of course a shattered screen would have to be replaced. I see no way around that.

  • @zulu6756

    this is another reason why i did not get into phone repair as a tech, its too tedious with all these screens getting cracked all the time, but to make a customer pay me 200 dollars for a replacement, it would feel like i'm ripping them off honestly, they need to come up with something that can fill in the crack instead of trying to remove it, because that's just impossible, and then that way instead of going through the hassle of opening up the phone and dealing with all those small screws, and electronics it would be alot easier to just apply the right solution to the screen and fix it.

    well there is a repair technology that is used to replace the glass only without replacing a display and if you have all the tools needed - you can actually fix this for ten bucks.
    it could be pretty hard to find a glass for some phone models and it's usually not as good as the original glass though.(have no oleophobic coating etc.)

    not a full fix but still probably worth doing. Makes the crack less obtrusive while you are using it. When the screen is off you still see the crack, but who cares. The idiotic thing is that all phones now have glass that covers not just the screen but all the way to the corners and ends of the phone and bezels. Also the back is glass. Phones are designed for maximum ease of damage! A screen protector will do exactly zero to prevent cracks because the damage happens when you drop the phone on its edge or corners 99pct of the time.

    From the made statement of repairing glass with liquid it's honestly not possible you can't repair the glass unless you got a vat of molten glass in the back of a truck somewhere the reason to liquid epoxy repair solution is so effective is because it fills up the crack where water can't get into it to freeze and expand and cause War breaks and future damage later on down the road at the same time it's an epoxy so it repels water from it and will never deteriorate or breakdown and it's extremely hard

NOTE YOU WILL HIDE THE REFRACTIVE INDEX of the crack but WILL NOT MAKE IT DISAPPEAR

  • @mattwood4912
    @mattwood4912 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's not what the instructions say. And it is super glue. The way they repair windshields is the windshield is made of two windshields sandwiched together and when you get a rock or something that cracks the outer windshield then you hit a bump then small fragments of glass get wedged between the two pieces of glass then you get a crazy crack that runs across the whole window. So the repair kit is to get all those tiny fragments to not be floating around in between the glass so they use the glue to fill the void and stick everything together in between the windshields so there's nothing floating around that has the potential to cause a crazy butt crack in your windshield. . So it's not going to help a phone in anyway.

  • @Luc89337
    @Luc89337 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This does NOT work. I say that with personal experience FTR. Pay the 50$ on Ebay for a screen repair service just know you can kiss the phone's waterproof capability goodbye with the repair ( they dont worn you off this but my phone turned into a useless brick the next time it got wet after the repair thank God for the bag of dried beans I had on hand after a few days it worked as good as new. Lesson learned!). If your adamant of making a while repair yourself buy some clear epoxy,apply and use a razor after it dries to get off excess. Also painters tap around area prior to application would make life easier.

    It needs to get into the crack for it to work. It may work better if you flex the screen enough to open up the crack a little. That will allow the resin to get into the crack. Then place the phone on a flat surface to scrape the excess resin off. Scrape along the crack NOT across it. You will get better results. I have used this same stuff to repair at least 4 windshields.

    saw a video where someone used epxy (much thicker than) windshield repair.. they put the phone in a vaccum bag and let it cure.. didnt work, that tecnique, the way that you used the sheets to cover the epoxy and sit in the sun, might wor if you were to place it in a vaccum seal bag, like a space saver bag, vaccum the bag after applying and definetly putting sheets over the epoxy, then sit vaccum sealed bag in the sun as instructed for the windshield repair instructions.. theory- the vaccum seal will suck the resin into the fine cracks??
