Rare Beer Club: Snakes In A Barrel by West Sixth Brewing. With special guest

- The legend himself, A Beer A Day With TK joins me for a Rare Beer Club unboxing and review of Snakes In A Barrel by West Sixth Brewing out of Lexington Kentucky. Before we reviewed this beer we were guest on @DonsBeerReviews for a three way review. Go check out his channel and the review. The two beers in this box were Snakes In A Barrel and Gotlandsdricka. TK chose Snakes In A Barrel. This is a 13% Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels. The beer poured out a jet black with a burnt caramel coloured head. On the nose we picked up chocolate, caramel, slight note of coffee and some roasted malts. The body of the beer was big and heavy up front with nice viscousness but thinned out toward the back end. There was some slight effervescence on the tongue that disappeared quickly. The flavors smack you in the mouth! Big roasty notes with molasses, chocolate, vanilla and some slight coffee. There is some slight booziness, but its more along the lines of an 8% beer not 13%. This beer was magnificent.

I picked that up at a beer festival earlier this year.
You only had TK on to open the bottle😂..should have got him drinking out of jam jams😂. Good laugh that vid boys🍺👍
I had really hoped the bottle was one of the weird crown and cork, or wax top bottles to watch him struggle. It was fun recording this one! Cheers!
I totally remember that lawsuit between Magic Hat and West Sixth. The main contention, from what I recall, was that West Sixth also had a direction symbol (that looked like a star) next to the six, and Magic Hat had the same thing in the middle of their 9. It wasn't just about their 6 being an upside down 9 (which like TK said, you can't avoid that), but it was the addition of that direction symbol. Regardless, West Sixth won the war because Magic Hat is now owned by FIFCO (parent company of Genesee, Labatt Blue USA, Pyramid and others), and West Sixth is still going strong.
As for the beer, it sounds pretty damn good. I loved when you guys both took that first sip and disagreed on the body right away, haha! The rare beer club is always a fun watch, and I love they mix up the styles. Really looking forward to that Jester King review. I've had a few beers with bog myrtle before, and they're interesting.

You are right, the original logos did look much more similar than they do now. It is cool to see two breweries work out a compromise in the end. Magic hat is not a bad beer, but the beers from West Sixth are way better. Us disagreeing highlights how subjective beer can be. I love the rare beer club! I receive so many beers that I would never see or get to try otherwise. I am backed up on videos and beers that I need to review, but I hope to get the review of the Jester King in before I hit the road again. Cheers!

Fantastic (drunk) vid! All those clubs sound great, except for the flower club. I like flowers but I can't eat many. I've been reliably informed that snakes in a barrel are easy to shoot...or is that fish? An absolute pleasure doing a collab with you guys 👍👍🍻🍻
Is it that obvious? 😂😂 I don't know who would get the flower of the month club, but its definitely not dudes doing beer reviews. Unless they have pissed off their significant other with all their drinking 😂
