I've had this ball winder for seven years now, and I love it. I do pull from the center and have not run into any issues with the skein collapsing. It does get floppy, but is usable to the very end. Even mini skeins work fine to the end.

What a wonderful ball winder! When I am ready for a new one I think I may go with a belt driven one, the yarn in the gears is a real pain when it happens. I have liked the look of the belt driven ones but never considered that aspect of them being a perk. Thank you. ❤🐻

My question is: does it come with a smaller diameter core? I almost exclusively use fingering weight yarn. I have tried using a ball winder, and when I center-pull from a cake wound with such a large core, the cake falls apart when there is still a lot left. I ended up getting a nostepinne and winding my balls by hand. The nostepinne is about half the diameter as the core I have seen on any ball winder. Those balls stay together until there is almost nothing left with my fingering weight yarn. The downside of using a nostepinne is that it takes over an hour, maybe 2 hours, to wind my yarn.

It does not. Personally I prefer to pull from the outside of the ball rather than the center so I cannot speak to that specifically. All I can report is that I've had no problem winding fingering weight yarn.

How large of a clamp does it have? I have a standard and a jumbo ball winder, but neither has a clamp that secures them to any of our wood furniture (either the wood is too thick or the edge is bevelled). I end up having to clamp them to a book when I wind yarn.

I opens up to about 2.5 inches and is two inches deep. I can have the ball winder
1 inch to 1z5 inches from the edge of my work table and it clamps just fine.
