sadly most don't know the saga of one drive. well done your best vid to date. I wait for more. And are you worried about some sort of cyber retaliation from Microsoft because of this brilliant exposure of the flaws in their product.
Don't worry, even if you delete ond-drive, it will get automatically re-installed by windows update. I only use microshaft winblows on my work computer, and even there, on a corporately managed windows, M$ is getting out of control with re-setting all sorts of settings, like making Edge the default browser.
Also, I can guarantee you that removing the "one drive folder" is not actually "removing one-drive" from your machine. I'd google for instructions on how to actually remove it entirely. I use Linux that is free from bs like one-drive, so I don't know how to actually remove it.
@@gorak9000 good point. I think I will just quaranteen the windows folders, and use a new "Free documents" folder , maybe on another hard drive that I set up
Great video! I, too, have been negatively affected by Onedrive with file system corruption multiplied by 2 because I had also been given another automatically installed on my computer by SNHU, my current college I'm enrolled in. So as my personal subscription to Microsoft 365 had Onedrive running I got the university's academic version of Microsoft 365 downloaded. I had 2 Onedrives to contend with which started in Feb 2024 and am getting ready to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 11 after backing up my Documents which are all over the place in addition to every document being duplicated. I love a challenge...usually. But not this one! It's been very time consuming to say the least.
yup, pretty much same thing happened to my son about two months ago. I was so frustrated trying to fix it. I set up his computer and usually first thing I do is uninstall onedrive but I must have forgotten. You should have saved this for the 31st, it's a tale of horror and forewarning that all should heed!
I just went through this same garbage myself on Windows 10. What a nightmare. I tried to point Documents back at C:\Users\ME\Documents, but explorer wouldn't let me. I had to resort to regedit to fix it. Once I copied all the OneDrive\Documents back to the normal Documents folder I was able to delete the OneDrive folder finally. I think most of this can be avoided by creating a local user account instead of a MS account. But that is tricky and requires Windows 11 Pro. Infuriating.
@@tmlf1239 You will own nothing, and you will be happy. You will also pay double fees and be happy too. The bs is getting a bit thick everywhere in recent years...
onedrive is HOT GARBAGE - what sucks is that i absolutely LOVE onenote - but that program both steals all your files - strongarms you into buying more storage on onedrive(cloud) WHt that program does is basically illegal. Let me guess ghetting your files back - you now have dual copies of it strewn all over the pklace in a huge pile of zip files?

Not sure, if it would be the same, when installing win11 without internet(bit tricky, but could be done). Most of the City is run by Morons, the one way they would talk straight, is when approached legally, when the ball is in their court. But you also need to project having all the time and resource to fight back, at which point, things should start turning around. Just some suggestions for future...❤👍

It's not Microsoft's fault. You should have gone into OneDrive settings and disabled your folders from backing up. 100% user error. You would have been better off having a professional changing everything over to the computer without being backed up.
I uninstalled onedrive at the time I installed W11, so there were no settings to use anymore, because I uninstalled it. This may have lead to the path to doom with no way to stop it .IMO Thanks for watching!
@salvadorfonsecsa165, what a damning indictment of the state of Windows that a "professional" should make changes and set it up. Sorry but this is MS's fault absolutely. OneDrive should not be enabled and try to sync your stuff unless the you ask for it explicitly. And MS needs to stop making it impossible to create local accounts. But I guess you and MS clearly know what I need and what is best for me. In my case, someone else had logged into One Drive on a computer shared by several people (no we don't need lots of logins). So I couldn't access the OneDrive settings at all to turn it off. Uninstalling does nothing of course. What a usability nightmare. Makes Linux look positively friendly.

And this is why I use Linux. (I know that is not a realistic option for many people.)

With every update, Windows becomes less useful, more user unfriendly.
Very True, thanks for watching
Not 'user unfriendly', its becoming dangerous for people's precious data
My wife is a software engineer. She has been putting off updating my computer to windows 11.

Thanks for the tips. I have been dragging out the city process, mostly so the cost of materials drops from the covid mess.
