Flutter! 😁 A favorite! They are all a favorite...And watching you pull your boat out of a gate with sheep bahing .made me smile..Your cat lighting is great! ,and the catdoor lights for the tongue..well now its art....Im sure the cats like it too..Its grey but even drab winter has its beauty...Thanks Phil
Hi Phil, even though the weather was dull, it was still a nice relaxing vlog to watch. Boots enjoys your music, and always sits up and watches when your music comes on at the end, and likes to watch Bushka and Midge!
I guess if you have short legs hopping across to open the other side of the gate, there would be a big chance of getting wet. Since the distance is quite a jump.
Thanks for another relaxing video Phil. Even though the day was drab, it was still a lovely cruise; lower contrast, soft tones, and more subtle colours. Easy on the eyes. Love the cats eyes lights...and your music.
i wonder if you remember the elderly lady who used to live in the cottage at Bourton Lock. She kept a very tidy garden in the opposite side of the lock, mostly given over to soft fruits. I have long ago forgotten her name, but she lived there for many years, seeming to get along quite well with no mains electricity, running water or road access. She kept a small boat above the lock for running down to Banbury. She could sometimes be quite fierce, coming out of her house to complain to any boater who was making too much noise with their engine while passing through the lock. After her death I believe the house was taken over by a voluntary group of boaters who wanted to protect it from vandalism, but I don´t think their efforts were successful. It certainly doesn´t look like the pretty place it used to be. Thank you, as always, for sharing this excellent video.
I didn't know her but I did know of her. Can't remember her name now? I don't know what the plans are for that house, nothing much seems to be happening there?
It was Maureen and there’s an information panel in the garden. Although it was officially called Wardle Lock, to many boaters it was referred to as "Maureen's lock". I believe her family sold her to another boating family when she was young. She ended her years in a nursing home.
Thanks so much. There are many mosses and liverworts growing around locks. Oxfordshire is not very good for ferns for some reason but you do see them on occasion.
Relaxing , but UK weather omg , cold damp and dirty brown water , friend has a 50ft barge , so cold in winter he moves out until spring but this year 2024 is so cold and wet he is still in his flat and almost May ? Looks like summer is in ruins already ..
Ha...! I was just thinking of putting in a request that you play some of your music in your videos again and 30 seconds later, you mentioned it yourself...! Nice...!
@NarrowboatJourneys ... I find the cruising stretches with music really add to your videos. Even if you have a stretch that's not too exciting, I find it becomes exciting in conjunction with your music. This synthesis sets a very peaceful mood that takes me out of my living room and puts me into the canal world for a precious minute or so. Then the mood is set, we are with you on your boat, and you can continue with your narration. Except then we are right on the boat with you. 🙂 That's how I feel anyway... lol
They are supposed to have a licence. I expect the club members do have one but most of the general public probably don't. These things are rarely checked.
You certainly have to be very sure footed jumping from one open lockgate to the other lockgate without an involuntary dip, I can see why David Johns sold the boat and went back to bricks and mortar getting older is something you have to think about .🧐
Hey Phil, just curious why some locks have double gates at one end and a single gate at the other. Looks like these had two at the bottom and one at the top, maybe that has something to do with it... 🤷♂ Thanks.
Top gates are smaller than bottom gates so are not so heavy and just one can be used. The bottom gates being bigger are usually paired. South of Banbury bottom gates are single. I think this was to save money.
@@NarrowboatJourneys Oh, right, I see. I just thought that maybe you had one for poodling about and one strictly for shopping because of the large container on the back of the right one. Phil, I'm in the process of buying my first boat, and I'll need a bike myself. Have you had many issues with theft? It's a concern of mine. Thanks, mate. 🙏
I've been ok but bikes do get stolen. Always lock them up. A mountain bike with puncture proof tyres is best. You'll want some tread on the tyres but not the really knobbly ones.
@@NarrowboatJourneys That's good to know that you haven't been robbed. I have an old motorbike bike chain that I think will do. And yes, I think you are right regarding a mountain bike. 👍 I do have a little Brompton, but I don't think it will fare too well on the muddy towpaths. It would fit in the boat nicely; however, I'm likely to go arse over tit on it. Thanks, brother. Stay safe 🙏

Glad you enjoyed it. Pure coincidence with the cat lighting.
Thanks for another wonderful video. I would love to see more of your cats 🐈 😻

That was a lovely cruise, a bit sad with that lock house.
Thank you. I don't know what plans they have for the lock house? It's been empty for years.

Don't try it with wide locks! ;-)
Drab or sunny, doesn't matter to me. I enjoy all your videos!
Thank you Phil for the wonderful video! Enjoy the rest of your week my friend.
Thanks, you too.
@NarrowboatJourneys Thank you Phil 🙂

Many thanks!
Morning Phil... I find my self whistling "Flutter" every morning I get up to make my cup of tea... It just sticks in my head...Hope you are well...
Thank you. The tune I am working on at the moment gets stuck in my head too.
Thanks!
Thank you very much. :-)

Lovely cruise. Love the new lights. Best wishes
Thank you. You too.
Nice one Phil
We really like that canal so peaceful. Like your music too, as always a lovely and relaxing vlog. Bushka and midge are always a treat xxx
Thank you. It's not so peaceful in the summer but there are many isolated spots to moor up on.
Nice Winter cruise! Always enjoy seeing the moss and plants thriving on the lock walls and gates. Liked hearing your song, too Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful cruise. Loved the “cats night lights”. Very effective. Well done Phil. Thank you.
Glad you like them. They are quite bright at night. I only needed one really but I do love symmetry.
I think it might be right around Bushka's and Midge's birthdays-- if so, Happy Birthday to them both!
You're right. I don't know exactly when they were born but it was around the beginning of April I think? They are eleven years old now!
Very relaxing...Thank you!
I really like watching what you do. If you don’t mind silly questions,I see you stepping across the gates have you ever fallen in.
Not yet ...! 😉

This year has been pretty bad so far, and it's raining again today!

Thank you. Adding music all depends on how good or interesting the original sound is, and if there is a big enough gap between commentaries.

Do the kayakers have to pay any licensing fees or do they just get free run of the place?

David Johns has a new boat now, a fibreglass cruiser.
Her name might have been Mrs Payne.
Like the guitar ing an video
Thank you Lee

Phil, I've always wondered - why do you have two bikes, mate? 👍
It was handy to have a spare bike when I had to cycle to work.
