  • Infiniti decided to simplify naming scheme of its models. Now everything has the letter Q in it. The old G37 is now called Q50. There's a 2.2 litre diesel or a 3.5 litre V6 petrol-hybrid to choose from.

    Just gone from BMW 330D and 320D in the last year to a Q50 Hybrid. Frankly, the Q50 is fantastic. The BMWs are great too, esp the 330D, but just not special and far too ubiquitous for my likes. The Q50 is thoroughly entertaining, bloody fast, very economical and wonderfully comfortable for my daily 90 mile round trip commute.

      I have a bmw 320d and looking to get the Q50 hybrid. Is there a major difference between reliability and maintenance cost? Would love to hear your opinion please 🙏

    After owning a BMW I don't understand how they are the standard. Terrible cars that are unreliable.

      You probably didn´t maintain your car right.

      and there is a lot to maintain in a bmw. because the engineering isn't that great anymore. they're just capitalizing on the brand.

      Beemers just capitalise on a long gone legend, they're no longer good cars. At least not the affordable versions.

    Now that Infiniti’s belly up in Europe, would you recommend a q50 hybrid as a good second hand purchase?

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. I don't offer advice on second-hand cars. Second hand market differs from country to country. 2. I don't think I've seen a non-press Q50, so I don't have any reliable information about it.

    I understand the importance of having good stereo in the car.
    But I'm surprised that someone would want to check their FB while driving. That has to be dangerous.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't browse while driving. The car has to be parked. Which begs the question, why not use your smartphone then ;)

    • @eternalhalloween1
      @eternalhalloween1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marek Drives That's good news.
      I've also seen reviews where people expressed concern over 'touch controls' because it can get distracting.
      I know cds are in their declining years. But I like them. I know what's on the cd and I can just hit play and concentrate on my driving. :)

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      eternalhalloween1 Increasingly often CD players are an option (if they at all available). I don't mind, because I store most of my music in the cloud anyway.
      As for touchscreens... It's a matter of where they are place, and how responsive they are. Infiniti's proposition probably still is among the best on the market. I can't wait to see the new Volvo XC90 with the huge touchscreen. It's probably going to be similar to Tesla.

    • @eternalhalloween1
      @eternalhalloween1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. I know the cloud, I-phones, and I-Pods are the big thing now. Most of my friends just load them up and hit 'shuffle.'
      I always liked cds because I know what's coming. Disco is good (and not distracting) for driving around town, while heavy metal is good on a long highway drive.
      I'll check out the Volvo XC90.

    i think the diesel is more of a renault, whereas the hybrid is more nissan/japanese. after all infiniti can't risk losing customers if the quality for the 54.000 euros doesn't exceed expectations.

    I have had my 2014 Q50s Hybrid for a while now and being a hybrid I can assure it is awful on the gasoline, shit my 2013 G37 was more of a gas saver than this one and this one being a Hybrid WTF Infiniti

    • @justicebdone7
      @justicebdone7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Noid please give us some numbers because it doesn't seem possible, G37 is rated at 20city, 29hwy, Q50 is rated 27city, 32hwy with more horses & torque; what are the real numbers

      Depends a lot how you drive it. I've gone 34mpg on a tank ... and 14mpg on another tank. I'd say 90% of my tanks are in the 27-30 range.
      This hybrid is not setup to save gas. It's setup to add horsepower. Think of it as a turbo... sure, a turbo will inherently save some gas because of how it recovers energy. Same here. But if you're buying a performance turbo car... it's not there to save you gas. The tuning and setup won't be designed to maximize gas.
      There are turbos designed to max fuel efficiency; people are still stuck in the thinking that a Hybrid = Prius. This car is not a Prius. 365bhp and 404ftlbs of torque.
      It uses the electric motor in only 2 situations:
      1. EV mode; the engine turns off completely, transmission in neutral, and car drives under 65hp with a very small battery. You can easily get those 34mpg numbers - and probably higher - if you learn how to maximize this.
      2. Acceleration. Push the throttle past a certain point and it adds the electric motor's 65hp and instant torque onto whatever the engine is doing. The engine does the heavy lifting, but the Hybrid components add a free 65hp onto that... and the electric motor has a different efficiency range than ICE. So you get all the electric motor torque from a stop and it lets off as rpm increase when ICE comes into its power band.
      It's a very smart setup. I wish there were more Hybrids like this out there.
      The battery regenerates largely through downshifts. The difference between the crank spin behind the trans and the wheel spin is what turns the electric motor into a generator feeding back to the batteries.
      It's a little like a KERS racing car in how deceleration generates/recovers a lot of your Hybrid power; though obviously that uses the brakes.
      Still, you can imagine how this encourages aggressive driving. At cruise and under heavy deceleration, batt charges. Then you expend that batt charge in acceleration.
      Even if you're saving gas, you'll want to accelerate out of a stop light using the Electric motor and then let the car slip into coast at target speed. Otherwise the battery just sits at 100%, the elec motor is never used... and you get the gas mileage of a VQ35 hauling ~4000lbs around.
      PS This will rape BMW 3-series once you learn how to drive it.

      I get 32 mpg (UK) with a heavy foot and 39 when I take it easy. For a 365 hp 5 sec monster that is pretty bloody good.

      I just means you still need to learn how to drive it economically. The car is fine, not your right foot though.
