I'm really upset that they did a full on sequel and not an update to the existing game.
Well, actually, it's fine that they did a sequel.
But i think i speak for a lot of us who bought the last game expecting updates, which the game clearly states we would get, when i say it feels pretty crummy to just ignore that and release a full priced sequel and just ignoring what you promised us before :(

But you'd think when they say they are going to update the existing game, that they'd have the hooks in that game that allows for it.
And if that's the case, it shouldn't really cost them any more than making a brand new piece of software.
I could understand it if the old game wasn't developed in such a way as to be updated with new features, but they've said themselves that they could and would. Even within the game itself!
I love Nintendo, but this just reeks of them trying to squeeze more money out of us i'm afraid :/

Alexis Aguiñaga um...not true at all. At least, not for Nintendo, and even they've started updating games this generation. (Took them long enough to catch up with everyone else, I suppose.) I lost count of how many X/Y/OR/AS updates I've installed so far...

My main gripe about this is that you can't actually do anything with your art other than upload it to miiverse and youtube, I wish we could actually save the file to use anywhere. This would beat buying an expensive art tablet if we could do that.

Was I the only one who realized sketchpad was only going to be for the drawing tools and nothing else? I thought they explained that when they announced the software.

The Paint mode in this thing is actually very impressive! I can see why it took them so long since AA: Sketchpad.
I gotta admit, this looks pretty extensive and nice. I think a Lite version of this would make a good pre-installed software for the Wii U. I mean, it's one of the few titles on the console that really needs the gamepad as it is the key way the game works.
Maybe they could - Art Academy Sketchpad was only 4 dollars or something like that

I'm glad they allowed the usage of an SD card giving me more space to put my art instead of just the 12 slots. Although I would have been happier if instead of using images from the SD card to put up on the TV so you can re create it, why not have it so you can color over an existing piece? What if I had drawn something on paper in class or at work and I wanted to color it? I know I'm being picky and I'm happy with the game, but that could have been an easy option.

I have Pokémon Art Academy and out of curiosity I saw this video.
I really want to get this, because I got Sketchpad. But I'm more of a cartoonist, and from the trailer, most of the lessons look like I'll be doing realism and lots of still art (aside from the cat).
... Still worth it, however. Gallery and Uploads?

***** Whether you are a cartoonist or go for a more realistic style it can still help you out a lot. In fact, drawing from realism then scaling down to simplified shapes might be the quickest way to learn to draw amazing things.
Most definitely! I do agree; I'm just not as interested in realism. It's simply not my thing.
Although I am surprised at how much we do draw from realism for cartoons-- like how a light will reflect off of the eye, we make it more prominent in anime eyes. Or because we only see so much of the face, we just draw a circle for the whole head.
Probably the only stylized thing that I draw that isn't realistic is my plankton-stub hands and my block feet. Like the leg and feet are just one thing, the foot doesn't protrude like, say... Sora's feet in Kingdom Hearts or some of the Harvest Moon character's shoes do.
I'd still love this either way. Still life and animals are two things I like to draw a little bit more in realism than people-- people just get me.

Man....The WII U is just a amazing system way better then the Xbox one or the PS4 in my opinion why doesn't more people have this system? I hope they keep making games for it for a long time.

Does this have the same drawing help feature that Pokémon Art Academy had? I really suck at drawing on tablets so that would really helpful to know. Can someone answer that for me?
I was super excited about WiiU but ended up waiting to get one... I was kind of glad I did because it ended up seeming like not such a great buy because of the lack of good games and lack of games that really made the systems uniqueness stand out. On the other hand its quirky little things like this that make me still want one pretty bad.. I think enough good games have come out that it would be worth it to get one. I almost bought one solely for Smash4 but decided to get a new NES edition 3dsXL and the 3DS version of Smash4 instead. I swear if a traditional pokemon game OR a pokemon snap style game came out in full WiiU style id buy one in a friggin HEARTBEAT!
I remember seeing an article about how one of the top creative minds at Nintendo said that a pokemon snap game on the WiiU just wouldn't be unique or fun enough... What the HECK?!? Are you kidding me?!? Either one would be a saving grace for the system!

It's so hard drawing on the gamepad due to the lack of feedback. Just get a wacom digitizer.
