Um actually, Beaker is known to make some other noises other than just meep, though they are in a similar vain like mee.
Um actually tacotan is correct. When describing an invisibility potion Breaker repeated Bunsons "it's only temporary" in a meeped tone.
What I always found hilarious is that Bunsen would lift his glasses to examine things more closely 😆
He was using the electro-receptors in his nose, like a shark or echidna.
Maybe he's just constantly wearing reading glasses during his experiments
Actual I'm near sighted, I tend to read by removing my glasses and hold the book/phone closer.

Um, actually, Roosevelt Franklyn was not cut because he was offensive to African Americans. He was created because the original concept of the show was to specifically appeal to the underserved inner city and African Americans audience. He was cut when they decided to try to appeal to a broader audience and make the races of the puppets less specific. The original Gordon, an activist in the black community, left the show over that decision. More recently, they reversed coarse, introducing their first specifically coded Asian character, much to the consternation of conservatives.
Not just specifically Asian, but specifically Korean!
Well, conservatives can have fun with that. I'll personally stick to being mad about bigger-picture stuff.
Wikipedia says: "Jane O'Connor, the sole African-American woman in early Sesame Street planning discussions, perceived Roosevelt Franklin to be causing white children to believe in a stereotypical view of African Americans. Teachers and staffers were also concerned that his rowdy behavior in class was setting a bad example for the pre-school audience. Eventually, the character was phased off of the show."
@@chesthoIe Yes. And it was a reasonable decision. But the character itself wasn't racist. It was more complicated than that. If the show was catering mainly to an audience that had plenty of experience with black kids, the impact would be different. The coding was there, but he was presented positively. In an audience of kids who may not know black kids in real life, that coding becomes a stereotype, which is why they removed it. But the original Gordon, who was not a black WOMAN, but was very influential in the early show concept, wanted to cater specifically to that audience. And in that context, it wasn't a racist character.
I'm sorry, what "conservatives" would be upset over an Asian character in a TV show? The word you're looking for is "bigot," or perhaps "racist."
Compared to the contestants I’ve only watched a fraction of muppets content. However, I knew a lot of the corrections because of the Defunctland channel’s amazing multi-part docuseries about Jim Henson. Highly recommend if you want to know more about him after watching this episode.

Two things, a man named Jordan DOLL being afraid of disanimated puppets is a little funny, and Bo Burnham has a great line about that in How The World Works, during Socko's intro, "I've been where I always am when you're not wearing me on your hand, in a frightening liminal space between states of being, not quite dead, not quite alive, it's similar to a constant state of sleep paralysis!"

He wasn't. There is a recent Sesame Street documentary, I think on HBO (but I may be mistaken) that goes through that history. It was actually very much the opposite. I was impressed, it was the first Sesame Street documentary in a long time I've seen that included that much footage and that much information I didn't already know. When they guy who plays the count hears his phone ring during the interview, and he starts counting the rings, my wife and I cracked up. He went from the interview immediately into the character, even without the puppet available.

The recently reversed course, introducing a specifically Korean coded character, recognizing that you can show these kinds of differences and celebrate them, allowing kids to see themselves represented in a positive light without removing race altogether.

Omg! I actually had the baseball ALF puppet with the "Take me, Alf, to the ball game!" Sadly my parents didn't own a record player at the time and when I finally found someone who could play it, they were unable as I had layed it in the sunlight in my parents car.
Im so glad to see more Um Actually being made, this online format is definitely different, but it's still fantastic!!
They never stopped making them. The newer episodes are only being uploaded to Dropout. They have just been reuploading all of the older episodes to the YT channel

I wish they’d do another Muppets and Puppets! There’s so much good content and trivia. Also, still hoping they do a “most hated” episode with the likes of Deathnote the Netflix movie and Avatar the live action movie
I'd never heard of this channel/show before, but someone on the Muppet Subreddit mentioned it so I had to come and check it out. This was loads of fun. I could have done better but I did ok on this.
For the first time, I know someone on this show. Rebecca Drysdale did an absolute banger of an NSFW (language) song called It Gets Better that I still occasionally listen to. It was fantastic.
Um, actually, the Tracey's do have craft not called Thunderbirds (for example, the Mole which is a big drill). They just use the convention for the main craft (I don't know why the submarine and the space-station count, but some others which presumably get more use don't). Also, Thunderbird 6 was a biplane, not a blimp. It was needed to land on a blimp, as it was the only thing light enough to land on it. The blimp was supposed to be a futuristic method of transport.

There was also a craft called “The Sidewinder”, which was a land vehicle designed to operate in wooded/forested areas, and could cut down trees and dig holes as well.
I only know this because I had a second-hand book about the Thunderbirds when I was a kid. It had a bunch of cutaway pictures and interesting information, and I was obsessed with it even though I had never seen Thunderbirds before.
Gonzo did play a character who was an alien in Muppets from Space. He is a "Whatever".

In the latter part of the 90s I was in the huge crowd at a music festival, waiting for the Prodigy to come on stage. Me and my friends managed to get a very large part of the audience to sing the Swedish version of the Fraggle Rock theme.

Here's the thing, I don't subscribe to dropout but I'm bingeing all of Um Actually on youtube, and there's still a ton to go but when I run out I am going through severe withdrawal even if season 8 starts coming out on Fridays.
Um, actually, the creatures known as urSkeks that split into the Skeksis and the Mystics (urRu) DID come from another planet via mystic portal after being banished. They return home at the end of the movie.
The fact they canceled season 2 of the dark crystal series still has me disappointed to this day.

It is the first episode since the beginning of the pandemic, yes. Filmed in mid-2020, probably the first filmed since around Oct 2019, when they filmed their last batch prior to the layoffs in the first week of 2020
Um actually, Bunsen and Beaker did not live in the nursery with the rest of the Muppet Babies. They were neighbors who frequently came over to play, even spending the night sometimes, but did not live there under Nanny's care. (thus why they weren't in every episode)
These contestants were great. Becky was hilarious. I loved her this whole episode

Um, actually, it is entirely possible that Beaker is just always screaming "Meep!" because the last thing he was saying was "help MEE, Please!"
And from all available data, I'm pretty sure Bunsen is, indeed, an eldritch horror who enjoys torturing Beaker and smooths over his eyeless visage in all the other characters' brains
For a first stream this is so much smoother than a lot of the other things that came out.

Fun fact, when I first sat down to watch the Dark Crystal, my only prior knowledge of the Henson company was the Muppets and their various adaptations of classic movies/literature, so I had wrongly assumed that this was an adaptation of something called "The Dark Crystal" featuring the Muppets I knew and loved. That was a shocking awakening.

@@mythreepants I was born in 1980. I remember him dying, but I was too young to have any interest in watching the funeral when it was live. But I've seen it in about 5 or 6 documentaries over the years. I can't imagine too many fans of Henson (which every fan of puppets has to be) haven't seen it by now.

Um Actually, in Muppets From Space Gonzo is said to have come from space, however muppet canon does not exist. Gonzo is referred to a whatever, and has remained an abstract character ever since. This is a hard question to specify who is right so I would have given them both a point.
Um, Actually, despite Muppet canon not being a thing, Muppets From Space has been considered as technically non canon, since it is an in-universe movie where the muppets play themselves.
The original plan was to make the aliens dress themselves as Gonzo, only to later reveal their ugly true forms and making Gonzo feel special or something. This plan was later scrapped for a more marketable one and it's canonicity was removed.
@@eddie-roo Um, Actually, you say that this is Muppets From Space when at the point in production where the Gonzos were to be disguised as ugly aliens it was called Muppets In Space, this was the title of the film all throughout filming and was changed in post production when they realized that at no point in the film do muppets enter space (Dream sequences aside)

Um actually, Miss Piggy’s eyelids have moved. In the scene where she fights the German scientist and Doc Hopper’s henchman in the original muppet movie, her eyes are fully open to give her a “crazed” look
