As someone who knows many wrestling fans and thus has existed on the periphery of wrestling Fandom, I can confirm that it is impenetrable from the outside. But I am happy for fans (well, the not shitty ones anyway) who get enjoyment from it.
Yeah honestly. A single question leading to a 3 minute tangent that itself leads into reminiscing that runs about 5 more minutes. That's wrestling fans in a nutshell

As a wrestling fan, this was a great episode. Would love to see more content where Trapp opens with "I know nothing about this, let's just see how it goes."
as someone in basically the same camp as trapp in terms of knowing nothing about wrestling this has been one of the most fun episodes of um actually (and that's a high bar because all the episodes are extremely fun) and i love it so much
Ditto, i haven't really watched wrestling since the 90's / early 00's and recognised maybe 25% of the wrestlers they mentioned but loved the episode, really hope to see more of these guests

Um, Actually, in the the movie No Holds Barred, Hulk Hogan didn't play himself, he played a wrestler named Rip. This means that when Zeus came to the WWF, it was a case where a character in a movie came to life to challenge the actor that played his opponent in that movie
I was going to comment the same thing. With the wording of the question suggesting that he played "established wrestler Hulk Hogan" in the movie, that would be a point, right?
im not a wrestling fan currently, nor have i ever been suuuper into wrestling, but this has been one of my favourite episodes of um actually ever. the banter and enthusiasm is just unparalleled

Even as someone who knows barely anything about wrestling, watching these three gush about a topic they love so much was awesome! I understand from a production perspective why you guys might be hesitant to make episodes that focus solely on one topic, but from an audience perspective this was a joy to watch. I would love if DropOut team experiments even more with episodes that are strongly themed. The Love Actually episode was really cool, and shows that an episode an be themed around a concept rather than a single property.
Ive watched every episode. But i think ill come back to this one. 10 min and i am overfilled with their energy. Gunna go run a couple miles and try this again.
Hmm, I agree but also disagree for 2 reasons. 1. The Rock was not wrestling at the time. Which seems like a pretty small disagreement until 2. The entire article (and cover) had almost nothing to do with him wrestling. It is mentioned in passing once in the article however the whole thing is actually about him as a football player and as a movie actor. There have been plenty of other people who have wrestled and appeared in Sports Illustrated but the question seemed to be about people who appeared in Sports Illustrated **as** wrestlers which The Rock did not.

i enjoy the idea of statements that are wrong on multiple fronts and giving out points for every wrong thing that people can identify; it's especially fun that Trapp didn't intend for them but is still giving the points.
Um, actually, Jay shouldn't have gotten credit for hard way. Hard way doesn't have to be a shot to the head, and it specifically requires the person to be busted open, which wasn't part of the given definition.
These episodes are fun somehow because of, rather than in spite of, the fact that I know absolutely NOTHING about what they're talking about. In normal episodes I'll at least have a couple questions that land in my wheelhouse, but now I'm just watching a bunch of people get really excited about something completely meaningless to me. It's surprisingly enjoyable

I feel like Trapp did get his research wrong. Kane debuted in 1997, but he was against the Undertaker at first. I don't think they started teaming until the summer of 1998 after their WrestleMania match.

This the most Um, Actually IRL of any Um, Actually episode. 7:04 is when the second question finally starts because it descended into that typical situation where everyone is at a party and a group of people are standing around in the kitchen getting into the weeds of a topic out-Um, Actually-ing each other. lol
I have no idea what these people are talking about and I'm entertained by the banter in between questions. This must've been how non-musical nerds felt during the musical Um, Actually.

As I understood it, WCW called them "international objects" because they didn't want to do anything to cause a fuss at Turner Corporate. Because they knew that the only reason they existed was because Ted Turner himself liked wrestling -- all the other Turner executives _hated_ that they had wrestling on their channels let alone that they produced the shows. WCW was Covering Their Asses.
Also, the fact that they spent quite a while picking on Trapp for not knowing wrestling….only for all of them to get the easiest of Undertaker/Kane questions wrong immediately after is hilarious lol
Man, I never could get into wrestling when I was younger, it was always seen as more of a soap opera back then, or I guess in todays standards maybe its more of a reality show? but seeing the energy in this video makes me wish I had enjoyed it at this level. One of the most "superfans" themed episodes of Um, actually to date.
