I love the summer vacation vibes in this trailer! It looks like a really unique setting, so it's gonna be cool to see where they go with the story in this expansion.
I LOVE this trailer. After fighting for our lives and the fate of the world through 4 expansions, going into this trailer that just has a "new/fresh beginnings" vibes is really nice 😭 like finally we can BREATHE FOR A BIT

Great video. I've been watching alot of reactions to the Dawntrail Teaser Trailer and glad to see a filmmaker's reaction to the video. Hope you are enjoying FF14, and if you are only about half way thru, then it sounds like the best is yet to come. My first class was Black Mage, cause of that maximum big hat energy.
Was fortunate to get a ticket to Vegas to see this live in a room full of screaming people, this the first chance I've had to sit down and watch a quieter analysis. Great breakdown as always, Phil!

Love your analyses, because your perspectives and takes sound like you’ve either been to film school, or had a mentor who taught you those lesser known techniques that all true filmmakers know about. ✌️
About the tacos. There is a bossfight later in the game where the lyrics are supposedly "beat, the heart of Sabik" but everyone hears "Big Fat Tacos, so big" and it is a huge meme in the community.
Love how you made a special mention to how Meteor's burlap hood burning looks like Guts' Berserker armor (when it molds to his spirit), and how it's like he's reveling in the fight. Considering the seeming theme of Dawntrail as the 'vacation/beach episode', they're really selling that the gang is enjoying themselves-including the Warrior of Light, even in the midst of a life-or-death duel
Loooving the Spira-esque setting. I can already tell I will love this expac, Spira is my fav most realized game world in the ff series
Endwalker didn't start that trend, they always do a teaser trailer after x.4 and then a full trailer after x.5

Been Playing XIV for ten years now, and I am pleased you picked up on a lot of things YoshiP specifically mentioned in the keynotes. Dawntrail was meant to have a brighter, 'this is a new adventure!' vibe.
I personally can't wait to see the full reveal of the job showcased here - likely in the JP Fan Fest in 6-8 months... TT_TT So can't wait to see your break down of the full trailer then!
To answer your question about which job(s) I play and which is my favorite, I basically have five jobs I "main" thanks to role quests taking the place of job quests starting in Shadowbringers - which have some spectacular - and honestly, pretty vital - lore behind them. So by role...
1) Tank I play Paladin (sword and shield is classic).
2) Melee DPS is Reaper (playing a Bladelock from DnD in XIV ftw).
3) Physical Ranged is Dancer (the easiest but must RNG reliant job in the game).
4) Healer is White Mage (classics are there for a reason)
5) Magical Ranged is Red Mage (the glamour options, a Nice Hat, and Cool Sword - nuff said)
With that said, I hope you and your girlfriend take your time and enjoy your journey through the story of FFXIV as you walk towards the end... And onto a new trail of a golden dawn.
Great breakdown of the trailer, Yoshi-P's crew have really come a long way with their trailers. I've been playing the game from around 2.3 and have loved it and have been a RDM main since it dropped. I am super stoked for 7.0, the Aztec style they showed and the jungle environment has my interest peaked, and the Corsair/Pirate job that the WoL looks like he is sporting is intriguing. The bun boy you didn't know is Erenville, you meet him in the Endwalker story.
cant wait to see the full version later on. The music shifts and a lot of the videos and scenes are full contextualized
FF14 has always had 3 Fanfests before a new expansion is released, with the trailer getting longer with each fanfest, so the next one in October will be an extended, but not complete, version of this. Also between the trailer and what was said in Fanfest itself, it feels like there's heavy One Piece influence. Like I get a feeling this is a pirate island, the Warrior of Light is a Corsair or Swashbuckler or some sort of dual-sword wielding character, and we are gonna fight the leader of the island for the right to be "King of the Pirates" so to speak.
Only it IS NOT an island. The new world is a continent that is BIGGER than Eorzea XD look forward to it.
Looks like we'll be on a journey to find a successor for this Federal City-State in the New World, so not quite becoming the Piate King, but I think we'll definitely find a new ruler in a sense, especially considering the two headed Mamool Ja in the trailer that we fight is the current leader of that City state lol (This is all revealed in the keynote, no conjectures/guesses being made here)
@@OathOblivio More like we are being recruited by one of the potential heirs to work for them, from the sound of it. Which it's totally in line with our job as an adventurer.

4:00 YES!!! The first reactor i've seen to say that and recognizing the WoL and his Will-Turner-from-Pirates-of-the-Caribbean-looking ass... Totally.
The lizard people are the Mamool Ja, a species that was first introduced in FF11's Treasures of Aht Urghan expansion.
The cool thing about ffxiv is that you can play all the jobs on one character, so while you may main one (or 4 :D) you can easily switch it up if you need a change of pace.
The bunny boy on the boat is the gleaner from Labyrinthos!
Looking forward to your first steps into Eorzea, and hope you have a wonderful time. The FF14 community LOVES getting to watch new players go through the game so i reccomend uploading vods or highlights of your playthrough when you guys start. As for what im looking foreward to the most with Dawntrail, more scenetime for Krile, my favorite of the main cast who gets very little love from the main story.
Edit: I main White Mage cause it has always been one of my favorite jobs in all FF games.
Getting a lot of Mesoamerica vibes with G'raha Tia enjoying the local Tacos. They're definitely in the new world.
Been laying since late Stormblood expansion when my husband got me into it. Been playing Summoner the whole way, though I've capped all the jobs and I have no lifed the game way too much through ShB and into EW. Can't wait for DawnTrail and a new era of the game!
Though I doubt any trailer will ever get me as hyped as Shadowbringers, this is excellent! Can't wait to dust off my Gunblade and learn a new weapon or 2!

You meet the viera guy early in Endwalker. Dont worry, you cant miss him: they put several spotlights on him to make sure you remember :D

Been playing for near eight years and looking forward to all of this. I main Dark Knight but I play almost everything.
I'm excited for the new caster also finally the new world and meracydia along seeing new job abilities and the astrologian rework
I agree however I’m actually worried about the changes to dragoon and Astro I hope they don’t dumb them down even further dragoon is fun I agree that it lacks a little variety

Male Viera weren't introduced to Endwalker so you haven't met our beautiful bun boi yet.
Im loving how our characters are taking a much needed break after Endwalker. I mostly play healer and dps in FF14 Astro and Dancer being the ones I enjoy the most but I do dabble in tanking once in a while.
Enjoy the game! I myself always liked to play tanks, and I've been playing Marauder into Warrior since A Realm Reborn, take your time and enjoy it! While the game engine is a little more limited than what they can do in the trailers, there's some really well shot cutscenes later in the game you'll probably enjoy!
Just a note the complete version of the trailer won't be out until January 7th

G'raha Tia is first introduced in the Crystal Tower raid series in A Realm Reborn, which has been made mandatory to progress in the main story since patch 5.3 so you most likely have met him assuming you have at least made it that far, but he isn't a voiced character there so personally I wouldn't blame you for not remembering him. He doesn't really become a major character until much later in the game.

hi Philip and all the people watching. I may give some insight on some stuff regarding the lizard beast in the trailer, with this FFXI video. You only need to watch the beginning. Besieged was when an enemy tribe tried to invade the capital of aht urgan and sometimes the mamool ja, tried to invade the city. at the end of the cutscene you can see a double headed mamool Ja which is Gulool Ja Ja, chief of the mamool ja tribe, which you can also see our hero fighting briefly with him at the ff14 trailer. So basically the original idea comes from 11. Am excited to see the developments if they will be connected somehow to 11 or not.
