Red Mage main, Gunbreaker is my primary tank class, Scholar is my go-to healer, Dancer is my go-to non-mage DPS. The class you asked about is indeed Dark Knight (which I have around level 70 right now), and yes you can go to the place shown in the preview you asked about. :) There are story quests tied to each of the four categories (Magic DPS, non-magic DPS, tank, healer) at level 80, then a 5th questline you can only do when you have done those four. The primary writer for this expansion (which is nicknamed 'feelsbringers' for good reason) is going to be involved in FF16, so we are really hoping for some amazing stuff.

Yes, the fight scene in the beginning is in the game. You can't go there through the open world, but you can go there via Dungeon. It's called The Ghimlyt Dark. The forest on fire is a place we can go to the the open world, The Rak'Tika Greatwood, but it isn't on fire when we go there, that happens before we arrive.
The elf/elezen with the cards is Urianger, not Thancred. Thancred is the one with the gunblade. Yeah, the Matoya character is named Y'Shtola, she takes on the name of Master Matoya for reasons, who she knew because Matoya was Y'Shtola's teacher. The theme of Matoya's cave is in the game, it's called The Mushroomery.
Something cool about the Warrior of Light switching jobs, he switches jobs in the order he learns them throughout the game. In 1.0 he was an Archer (never unlocked Bard, the job for Archer), in A Realm Reborn he was a Warrior, in Heavensward he was a Dragoon, in Stormblood he was both a Monk and a Samurai (the story takes place in 2 countries and those jobs come from those countries), then he picks up Dark Knight when he needs to become the Warrior of Darkness. And we know from the teaser for Endwalker he switches to Paladin, so yeah, some Cecil references.
The narrator is The Crystal Exarch, this cinematic was the first time we see him and at this point don't know if he's good or bad.
The violin section is from FFIII, Eternal Wind. There's a few different versions of the song in the game.

jobs didn't exist in 1.0 till yoshida took over , the cinematic was from the og ff14 1.o cinematic trailer which features the old free form class system and all the characters who end up being used as promo.
fun fact if you rewatch the cinematic, all the characters end up appearing as the WoD and his friends. the leve quest guy even is the barkeep in the crystarium.
also the segway into the outer area of the crystarium lines up to the old 1.0 trailer of the derplander picking a leve and going out on his adventure.

Matoya IS in ffxiv, with her cave and everything, the one in the trailer is not her though, it's Ysh'tola borrowing her name. Which is fitting considering she IS Matoya's student or apprentice. As for what's going on in the trailer, well the world is split into the Source and 13 reflections. We are from the Source and end up travelling to the First reflection to save it from the Flood of Light, which covers the world and makes it so it's daytime ALL the time. We become the warrior of darkness to return the night and restore the balance lest the First falls to light the same way Darkness has overrun the Thirteenth, which became the Void. Light and Dark are not good and evil, they are just aspects of aether.

Interesting note: most of the trees and flowers on the First, which is a world suffering from a Flood of Light, have purple leaves because they're rich in a certain chemical whose name I can't recall offhand that more efficiently absorbs high amounts of sunlight, which results in leaves/petals of that particular shade of purple.

Oh, and one of the things that has improved: No cutscenes in the middle of dungeons. You have your story beat right up to the entrance, then your duty finder to get in, go through the dungeon, then after the last boss is dead and you go to the exit, you get you finale cut scene. and given your love of FF music, you have check out out the sick beat in the Shadowbringers dungeon "The Twinning" : th-cam.com/video/NBIRYjP1NNM/w-d-xo.html. It hits hard right off the bat and then just keeps going.

Nice analysis! I recommend watching the trailers in some order (but at this point you've watched them out of order haha, so do what you like).
    Trailer order:
    - A Realm Reborn End of an Era
    - Flame Of Truth (Above, but it extends on by adding more to the end)
    - Heavensward (1st Expansion)
    - Stormblood (2nd Expansion)
    - Shadowbringers (3rd Expansion)
    - Endwalker (4th Expansion, only a teaser out for this one, full trailer will be released this May 2021 during FanFest)

  • @Helbereth
    @Helbereth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Nobody watching this trailer at its time of release knew who the man with the crystal hand was, and we're not telling you either. All I will say is that he's the narrator in the trailer.
The Elezen guy with Y'shtola is Urianger. You should remember he's the Scion who always had the hooded cloak and speaks in Shakespearian.
Yes, Matoya makes an appearance in the game, and there is a FFXIV rendition of her theme used, but I will say no more.
Thancred is showcasing the Gunbreaker job that was introduced in Shadowbringers. It's a tank that uses special ammunition to execute aetheric attacks and generate shields.
The Viera seen dancing in that first-person section is showcasing the Dancer job, as well as the introduction of Viera as a playable race.
Yes, the opening sequence is something you played through at the end of Stormblood, just prior to Shadowbringers, including the fight with the dummy-thicc guy.
FFXIV actually makes fairly extensive use of in-game cutscenes with lots of special effects and cinematography, though that didn't become terribly prevalent until Heavensward. I don't want to point any particular sequences out due to spoilers, though.

I can answer any questions you have. I'll fill it out as you go with edits. Oh. And the main job I play is Red Mage. My main task in any fight is to do as much damage as possible, and not die so I can raise everyone else constantly until I run out of MP.
Narration: The Crystal Exarch/G'raha Tia (During the story, it's supposed to be secret, but your character has the option to figure it out 5 minutes after meeting him). He is an ally, not a villain. The 5.0 main villain is not shown, HOWEVER, the Gremlin delivers the lines of the main villain from before the final fight.
"Dummy Thicc" Guy: In that moment of the story it's Elidibus inhabiting the dead body of Zenos. Spoilers for Stormblood... But also Endwalker's trailer... Zenos doesn't stay dead.
Master Matoya is Y'Shtola. You'll have to play the story to understand, but it has to do with the group of people she stays with in The First.
Male Elezen (Elf) is Urianger, pronounced Oo-ree-on-jay.
Thancred is the guy with the Gunblade. Why Minfilia is a child is part of the story that's important.
The Pictured job showcased at the end is Dark Knight. That character is the representative of the player character, and the community has named him Derplander. The official name is just simply Warrior of Light/Darkness.
On WoL Vs. Zenos at the start: Did we play that fight? Yes. It's a solo instance fight in patch 4.5.
When you say you wish there were scenes like that in the game... There is actually EXACTLY ONE cutscene like that IN the game. It plays during the Binding Coil of Bahamut story. But the quality of cutscenes with the ingame engine is actually really good during Stormblood and perfected in Shadowbringers. Also the Hildebrand Storyline has masterful cutscene work.
Link to official list of jobs: na.finalfantasyxiv.com/jobguide/battle/?
Phil, I know you don't like ARR, but you REALLY have to get through it to Heavensward. There's a huge pay off. Lots of streamers have done their journey through the game, and you'll find that the cinematography even with the in-game engine gets really amazing.
Phil, your community would be more than happy to help you get through the game. I play on Gilgamesh, which is the main raid server, but the Aether Datacenter tends to be pretty friendly toward newer players. Primal and Crystal also have lots of good people too. Crystal has Balmung which is the main hub of RP.

The great thing about the trailer is that watching it before and after finishing the expansion hits differently and it's a new experience again. They intentionally tease things that are unclear the first time you watch, that become clear by the time you're done with the expansion. Who is the narrator? We don't know that before you start Shadowbringers, and by the end you are intimately familiar.
Also, a lot of the context and references players will get. The job changes are in chronological order. In 1.0 he was an Archer (and also Gladiator, but not shown here, and we find out why in the Endwalker trailer), then he was a Warrior in 2.0. Dragoon in 3.0, Monk and Samurai in 4.0, and finally becoming a Dark Knight in 5.0.
And then of course you mentioned Cecil, we then find out in the Endwalker trailer that his next job is Paladin, which is the job that comes out of Gladiator which is what he was in 1.0 and is not a double-reference. First he's come full circle back to the sword and shield and went from the class to the job. And secondly he went from Dark Knight to Paladin like our boy Cecil, and it looks like 6.0 is going to be heavy on the FF4 references.
The Gunblade is indeed FF8 inspired. Yoshi-P mentioned that yes, there were already Garlean gunblades, but what people wanted was the more FF8 style gunblades right? So for Shadowbringers one of the new classes is Gunbreaker which Thancred showcased. The other new job is Dancer, along with the new Viera race, which was announced via this trailer by showing both simultaneously with that sweet panning-pause.

Since you asked for a bit of background on this trailer:
It begins with a representation of the finale of the previous expansion, Stormblood. (The battlefield represented is the last dungeon of the expansion, but the duel between the Warrior of Light and his opponent takes a different form than the one presented, but it gets the point across.)
Following the events of Stormblood, the Warrior of Light and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn are whisked away to another world, known as the First. The First is a shard of their own world, broken off by events in the far past. Due to [plot], the aetheric balance of the First is thrown off and the world is flooded with the power of Light. (In this setting, elemental powers of aether are divided into two groups: astral (light) and umbral (dark). Umbral powers are those of chaos and destruction, but also of creation and change. Astral powers are those of order, harmony, and tranquility.) Shadowbringers adopts many of the themes of FF3, which is why you heard Eternal Wind in the trailer, one of the primary being that the imbalance of too much Light is just as bad as that of too much darkness. The Light affects all creatures on the First: it poisons and transforms those it touches. (It's why the light looks sickly and yellow in the trailer.) Beings created by the light, known as Sin Eaters, actively attack and devour anything that is not made of light itself. Meanwhile, due to the effect of imposed "tranquility" - effectively stasis -, the people of the First live in a state of indolence: they are concerned only with the present and waste away while waiting on the end of the world.
The speaker in the video is the Crystal Excarch, himself a native of the original world. He commands the power of the Cyrstal Tower and brought the Warrior of Light and the Scions here, both in hope to rebalance the First, as well as to prevent an oncoming tragedy of which he has foreknowledge. ("If history must be unwritten, let it be unwritten.")

For what it's worth, if you ever do get some spare time, FF14 has a stupid good trial system for the game. You can play the base game and the first expac, for as long as you want, 100% free. It does have some restrictions (you can't form your own parties, and your chat is restricted a bit, to prevent gold seller bots from abusing it, etc), but the amount of content on offer, for free, is pretty staggering.

Hey man! I just found your channel today and as a fellow FF fan I really appreciate your insight coming from a filmmakers perspective. This trailer specifically is perhaps my favorite trailer of any game so it is cool to see others experience them. You mentioned you played ARR and wanted to know more about the story of FFXIV.
I highly suggest continuing to playthrough it as the Heavensward expansion that immediately follows is perhaps one of the more well written stories of any FF game. Shadowbringers is on that level as well.
It is just quite unfortunately that ARR is quite time consuming and the story doesn't really pick up until the very end of it. But, as someone who clearly appreciates a good plot, story, and crazy plot twists I 1000% recommend to pick it up again when you have some spare time. I know your plate is full currently, but letting your community in on your play through could be a good way to continue to work whilst experiencing it.
Keep up your awesome work on your channel! I recommend watching FFXIV End of an Era / Flames of Truth (FoT has an additional scene at the end of the original trailer which ties into the first bit of content you do in FFXIV:ARR) which is the cutscene that played when 1.0 servers shutdown and A Realm Reborn was launched. This is also the trailer where the song "Answers" is played which is widely considered to be one of the greatest video game orchestral achievements in history.

Thancred is a Gunbreaker. It's a tank class that uses, as you stated, a gunblade. Thancred was a rogue before Shadowbringers, but his job change serves the story well. He is protecting the young girl in the trailer, named Minfilia but not the same person you knew from ARR, and as Gunbreaker is a tank, it works. Beyond that, he lost his ability to manipulate aether in a much earlier plot point, and so Minfilia charges the ammunition he uses for him, giving them a kind of symbiotic relationship.

the big sword class is Dark Knight
the guy with the cards in this is called Urianger (pronounced OO-ri-ann-jay in a kind of french way)
Matoya does exist in ffxiv, but you got it right, the reveal was that it was not the Matoya we know in the trailer, as the short version of the trailer left her in the cloak for months of community speculation
(o and the gremlin i literally just a gremlin, a little monster drawn to people who are sad to make them feel worse so it can eat the misery. that is an enemy ingame)
the game does have intense story cutcenes with action the later and later you get through the story, starting at about level 50, with occasional big moments and eventually becoming more and more prevolent. nothing to this cinematic standard, but more actual action ingame scenes between non-player characters
also Shadowbringers trailer literally all of it happens between levels 70 and 71, an incredibly small fragment of the actual story of Shadowbringers is shown here, but Shadowbringers' expansion only goes up and up until level 80. the fight at the beginning in the battlefield is a solo duty, a whole long stage where you play through a solo mission full of cutscenes and fights between.

every expansion or version of the game has its own highlight class/job. 1.0 had the Archer, 2.0 (ARR) had the Warrior, 3.0 (HW) had the Dragoon, 4.0 (SB) had a split between Monk and Samurai, 5.0 (ShB) has Dark Knight, and 6.0 (EW) will have Paladin.

I love Shadowbringers. It's among the best fantasy stories ever. Watching your reaction is making me remember the hype and it makes me remember how the expansion itself surpassed that hype.
The reveal trailer was quite a bit shorter with the lyrics intelligible.
I hope you revisit the Endwalker trailer when the full release version comes out.

I play a male Au'Ra in FFXIV. I started my game as a Pugilist, but switched to Rogue the first opportunity I got. Played thru ARR exclusively as a Ninja.
Once Heavensward hit, I still mained Ninja for majority of the game, but I started learning how to tank by playing the Dark Knight class that was released in that expansion.
For Stormblood, I ended up switching my main DPS job to Samurai since it was easier for me to play, occasionally using Dark Knight for fun, but dropping Ninja entirely.
As for Shadowbringers, I beat the first storyline as a Samurai, but since then I took the time to master a lot more jobs (Paladin, Monk, Machinist, Red Mage, Gunbreaker) and even tried healing for once (Astrologian, White Mage). Ironically, I took up Ninja again also, and pretty much went full circle with it being my main job again.

With Thancraed being all Squall/Seifer like as you called it was in this trailer they showed off basically 3 things. One new race, (eventually finding out later during their fan festival that they would add two new races in this expansion) and Two new jobs. Thancraed showing of the new tanking class (Called the Gunbreaker for lore reasons). Where that Fran character was showing off the new range dps class the Dancer. Also side note the race of those bunny girls are called the Viera. You don't see the other race introduced in the expansion in the trailer but they are giant cat humanoids called the Horathgar. With my first FF game ever being FF8 I was totally hyped when they announced the class in game.

I played Final Fantasy 1 back in the day as a child and it had always been my favorite. I knew of Final Fantasy 7, but never played until a few years ago.
Saw the trailer for shadowbringers and did a little homework/research on the game. I started playing Final Fantasy 14 during launch of shadowbringers. Yes A realm reborn was slow, but worth it. As the game goes on the the story gets better.
My main job in the game is black mage which is a job that reminds me of FinalFantasy 1, with a few jobs a tank, healer, melee dps jobs halfway through.

Funny thing about the opening is that it's actually relevant and not in the way some people probably think. And the implication of the actual fight doesn't fully click until you find out what exactly was happening.
Also, Fran is in the game. We get to follow her on one of the raids - and with how many times people have done ivalice raids, this shouldn't really be a spoiler to people.

I've only really ever played FFXIV, XI, and Crystal Chronicles in the Final Fantasy franchise though have been tangentially aware of a few others thanks to friends who love the games. It may be a Theme Park but it has me interested now in trying the other games. Eternal wind makes me SO EMOTIONAL and I am sure when I finish FFIII it will be even more so.
Fave part of all the trailers is when they show off a Job you can have as a player and show off the moves it can do. Thancred is a Gunbreaker. The Gunblade is meant to protect and attack. The sound effect, the move, the visual is all what happens in the game. The first move looks a lot like the skill Burst Strike. My fave combo as a Gunbreaker is the Gnashing Fang combo which gives you the buffs Ready to Rip and Ready to Tear. The sound effects are the same in the game, he moves, the visceral impact of the whole class is all on display right there. I also love how, after the last attack when he stands near Minfilia the barrel is smoking and the blade itself is bright red before cooling off back to steel. Such a nice addition.

If you like FF, even if you absolutely don't want to play an MMO, you have to play FFXIV. It's not just the best story in Final Fantasy it's one of the best stories in any game ever. That plus the awesome Soken music. As you've seen from this one trailer alone there are elements, drawbacks and even characters in FFXIV from all other Final Fantasies before that.
The name Matoya in this was a curious one and a bit of a false lead before the game released. The character seen here is actually Y'Shtola, which you already get to know early on in ARR. The reason why she calls herself Matoya here is somehow explained in the game. However, the real Matoya you know is also in FFXIV. As well as her beloved theme in several different versions:
th-cam.com/video/orvKqkgWZOc/w-d-xo.html (This one comes from Heavensward)
th-cam.com/video/fD9J0J90ATA/w-d-xo.html (This one was added just recently in patch 5.4)
Saying who narrates the Shadowbringers trailer is actually a spoiler. I hope that no comment already spoiled it for you.
But you also rightly found references to FFVIII. Shadowbringers is quite full of things and with its Raid even music from FFVIII. As well as FFIII, the Crystal Tower is an important part of ARR and Shadowbringers with the Eternal Wind theme. Vieras like Fran from FF12 have become a part of FFXIV world post Stormblood and were introduced into FFXIV as a playable race with Shadowbringers, which is why they show a Viera dancer so prominently here. But that's not even all. Ivalice (which is the world of FF12, Tactics and Vagrant Story) is part of FFXIVs world and characters from FF12 are even referenced or even shown in FFXIV. Also your reference with the Dark Knight from FFIV is on point. Because remember that we're going to the moon in Endwalker and the WoL is depicted as a Paladin there. ;)
And that's just the references you can see from this trailer alone. Throughout FFXIVs story there are countless references and elements and music from all FFs. Stormblood, for example, was very FFVI-heavy. In ARR you will recognize a lot of names from FFVII (heck the whole Gold Saucer is there with its theme) and in Endwalker will be more elements from FFX and FFIV of course.
What I'm trying to say is that FFXIV takes all of the Final Fantasy series and makes it its own. It's not just dumb fan-service. They take these elements and make their own great story with it. It can be hard to stomach through ARR. Especially because it still feels very much like your typical MMO with a few more cutscenes than normal. But believe me, over the expansions it feels more and more like a true single player Final Fantasy and from Heavensward, you will already know that this is something truly special. It's actually a subseries of Final Fantasy single player stories within the framework of an MMO as a platform.
Edit: I also wish there were pre-rendered visual work scenes in the game as well. Which they aren't. However what they're doing with what they have real time in-engine is also progressively getting better throughout the expansions. At the end of ARR and post-ARR you will already notice a lot of very well made fighting scenes, etc. But it's getting much more cinematic later on in general.

@@PhilipHarts The cinematography in their in-game cutscenes has improved dramatically over even just the past few content patches. First there were smoother and more full-bodied expressions, and in 5.4 and 5.5 I noticed a lot more *amazing* camera movements rather than just static camera swaps.
(Fun fact: the Hildebrand side-questlines are a way to really practice pushing the boundaries of character expressions, and work as a bit of a 'test run'.)
If you hop into the game again sometime, use some job actions and then /gpose! You can turn off battle effects and really focus on how realistic the character movements are-you can really tell that they do motion capture, or at least really put a lot of effort into studying real-world references for a more immersive experience.
Paladin always seemed so boring to me compared to Dark Knight or Warrior animation-wise, but going into /gpose you get to see a lot of intricate sword movements; little flourishes, like spinning the blade briefly before performing an attack. (Circle of Scorn was the one that surprised me the most iirc!)

You're not wrong, it is a final fantasy theme park, it was the second one I played after 13 and have since played some of the other ones and the FF7 remake was a gem of a game. Can't wait for the next part.
And with FF14, I must say I love the music and story, the earlier parts did feel a bit bland but it's now reached the point where I just can't wait for the next patches for the story more than anything. And the trailers are just too good, between them and certain story points, this game has given me the chills on more than one occasion.
In the game I love playing the Paladin class and my favourite character in the trailer I would probably have to say Urianger, he talks old English, but he's a pretty funny guy all things considered, though probably not for the purpose of being funny, but what he does happens to be funny.

Yes, that burning battlefield IS a fight that the players of FF14 get to play, though the players have a markedly different experience at the end of it than the trailer due to Time Shenanigans and the intervention of the Narrator of the trailer (the Crystal Exarch is what he's called).
Yes, Matoya/Y'shtola is a Waifu. The name of "Master Matoya" or "Sorceress Matoya" is that of her teacher, who is a character who first appeared in Heavensward (complete with her cave, no less, AND her Crystal Eye). She's using her teacher's name for Story Based Reasons that make sense in context since they have to do with showing respect to an in-game culture that she's working with.
As an aside, you actually get to walk through the burned out wreckage of that town in-game. So yeah, the scenes in the Trailer *actually happened*. It's awesome.
Thancred was the guy with the gunblade (it's a class that was introduced in this expac, a tank class called Gunbreaker), the dude with the cards is someone else (I can never remember his name, I blame Cancer Brain Fog). The little girl is called Minfilia, but her fandom nickname is actually "Mini-filia" because, just like with "Matoya"/Y'shtola above, there are Complicated Story Things going on that I don't want to spoil.
Yes, the Poster Job for Shadowbringers is Dark Knight, exactly like Cecil and JUST like Cecil it changes to Paladin in Endwalker, just in time to go to the Moon.
Two new races were introduced in this expac and one of them was the Viera (like Fran). No explanation is directly given as to who that particular dancer is, but given that a certain Captain of the Guard (if that's even her title) was a Dancer... she could well be the Crystal Exarch's adopted "granddaughter". (Dancer was the other job that was introduced in Shadowbringers.)
I"ve played FF14 for two years now and I *adore* the world and the characters and the game itself and yes, I understand completely how bad a slog ARR is in comparison to later expansions. I've got altoholism and I've played through it more times than I can count. I still feel that it's worth every bit of the struggle. Emotionally, Shadowbringers BROKE me in so many glorious ways and the writing was so beautifully on point.
If you decide to step back into Eorzea, my best suggestion is to pick a Preferred World and then just run the MSQ and Class/Job quests and leave most of the rest of it for later. The Road to 70 bonus is no joke and will allow you to experiment with different jobs as you want without having to spend TOO much time getting them leveled up to where you are in the MSQ. Even without it, though, if you stick to one job/class you'll be fine.

OK. I'll try to put it into a kinda synopsis without much spoil as possible. But it's unavoidable to not talking about the end of Stromblood which was shown at the early of the trailer. So basically I'll describe the meaning behind the trailer.
Here's gose: As many heroic fight he has fought and triumph. The name of warrior of light were given to him. But that was just the past. As the warrior of light got forcefully travel to the another world that is about to end. The world were engulfed by the flood of light. Now the scion of the seventh dawn left their own world behind, And fight to save the another world and bring back the night sky to the eternal bright world. And gain the name, Warrior of darkness.
PS. Y'stola steal her master name and use it here in another world. Yeah, The wich in the cave Matoya are actually old lady as we know. And she's this cat lady master.

ARR is rough, but they did cut out a lot of the filler so it's not AS bad as in the past.
And if you truly are desperate to get to the better expansions, they do sell story skips in the XIV shop. I'd say only jump ARR though because Heavensward and the remaining expansions are worth playing through. When you skip there you can go back and see what you missed inside the inns; there's a book that will be on a table and it houses all the main cutscenes. There is also new game + that lets you replay ARR after you are done with all the games if you wish to.

Monk main, but enjoy running around as Paladin/Gunbreaker, White Mage and Machinist.
    -=-=- gonna try to no-spoiler post -=-=-
    * The beginning of the trailer is a finale/connection to the end of Stormblood's (3.X) plot where the Allied Nations of Eorzea finally brought the war back to the Big Bad Evil Empire.
    * _THICCboi_ is one of the Empire's most famous Generals that has a one sided Rival relationship with the Warrior of Light. The battle is playable first as some of the heroes of the Alliance, then as the 1v1 between DummyTHICC and your character.
    * The drab, dilapidated landscape and the forest on fire are zones exclusive to Shadowbringers (4.X), intentionally using those colors to avoid spoilers.
    * _"Matoya"_ , the sorceress Miqo'te, is a leader/protector of the locals in the new forest zone, you might remember her as Y'shtola of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn (your own personal Avengers crew).
    * _Urianger_ , the card wielding Astrologian Elezen, is another of the Scions (2.X plot) and resident "Shakesperian" speaker.
    * _Thancred_ , the gunblade toting Hyur, also another of your Scion buddies.
    * They __all_ _got transported to the "alternate world" where the plot of Shadowbringers happens.
    * _"Minfilia"_ , the young lady with light blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes is a citizen of this world you have come to save, she will support you throughout the length of Shadowbringers.
    * The enemy that looks like a statue... has the consistency of a statue, but is one of many similar monsters taken form and animated due to certain magics in this new world.
    * The _Final Fantasy Theme Park_ ... actually yes, it's a HUGE and ongoing love letter to the whole franchise... easter eggs and references all around.
    * The trailers for each expansion tend to have a higher level of quality and polish, but the in game cut scenes (voiced, or not) use the in game engine and most are there to illustrate specific beats of the Main Story Quest (ARR had a rough time since they had to remake the game from scratch, time and money limitations, but it got better with each following expansion), and some for the individual (8 or 24 man) Raid series per expansion.
    * _Not DummyTHICC guy_ , he's called the Crystal Exarch, he is an initial storyteller for this expansion but later on you get more information on him (even moreso if you followed the 2.X raid series) and he becomes a party member if you want to do the dungeons with the Scion NPC's instead of with other players.
    * The job changes on the fly are a callback to the PosterBoy jobs of each expansion that the Warrior of Light was known for in the Trailers and the game packaging/logo: 1.0 Archer, 2.0 Warrior, 3.0 Dragoon, 4.0 Monk & Samurai, 5.0 Dark Knight

Let's just say I'm an alt-aholic from my history of WoW, but my farthest progessing character is a samurai-only dragonkin, based on a certain green-skinned main character of the story "Tower of God," which has only been acknowledged by one other player so far...
    "Nice cosplay, green turtle."

If you don't mind spoilers you can look up Emet-selch or Ardbert tributes. Fantastic in game cutscenes.

How different is it trying to edit together a trailer for a game, where you are actively avoiding showing footage from the game itself and mainly trying to just sell on the concept of the content, versus a movie trailer which is (usually) all footage from the actual final product?
Edit: And when the 'main character' could be very different for each person, haha...

tbh my fav character is a spoiler character. they exist in the drk story. I main gunbreaker, as it is a fun fast tank imo. yes im a ff8 fan girl. been playing ff14 on and off since 1.0, started 2.0 in the closed beta phase 2 when they let ps3 players in who bought ff14 1.0.
if you have not done so should check out the ff14 trailers from 1.0 onward, as you can see the progression to see "derplander" (what the community calls the cinematic WoL) transition through from the og launch to current and endwalkers.

@@PhilipHarts context is that it is the cinematic between the 1st version of ffxiv which was scrapped and the version of ffxiv we have today so it was pretty iconic, it played to everyone online when they shut down the servers, great reaction as usual even I didn't pick up on the different music used in this trailer

__"Flames of Truth"__ is an expanded cinematic of __"End of an Era"__ , that explains a bit of what happened to certain characters during "The Calamity" (closing of servers for 1.0) and parallel to __"A New Beginning"__ which was made for the release of 2.0, where the Warrior of Light (the player expy) and his party are sent "5 years into the future" to start adventuring as part of A Realm Reborn.
This cinematic is part of the 2.X raid series and it's a nice throwback/nod/fanservice for all the 1.0 players that were there for it all, and for all the lore hungry 2.0+ players that got hooked with the A Realm Reborn trailer.

    The Crystal Exarch's amazing VA.
Under no circumstances should you look it up unless you want to spoil the Shadowbringers entire MSQ and plot twist.
The Viera shot is: ''would you also like to be a rabbit? How attached are you to your hat collection?'
