Such a pleasure listening to a real match commentator, no "pundit" telling us what the player on the pitch should have done and seeing only errors, (in his opinion of course.) Most of the 2nd division clubs were very sorry to see United go straight back up, United's travelling fans brought a financial bonanza to clubs whose normal home crowd was something like 5000.
Agree but, wait a moment!!!! Brian Moore #legend
how did they manage without some tidy female co-commentator / player / ex player
Brian Moore was brilliant
A trip down memory lane for me as I was at that match. Back in those days, you just turned up and queued at the turnstiles.
Tommy Doc and Tommy Cav.
Wish we still had them at Old Trafford.
Cav wouldn't agree, he stole his missus!
@@seltaeb9691That’s news to Mrs Cavanagh.
This was my first season supporting United. I remember Jim Holton getting injured, and us buying Gordon Hill, Steve Coppell around this time and a bit later Jimmy Greenhoff. Highest attendance in the league in the second division. And away support rules came in after a game against Blackpool, there were more United fans than home fans. Great days, loved the Doc and the style of football!
Those were the days my friend 😊
what a pleasure - substitute linesman from the crowd borrowing a dark jumper and running the line in disco shoes and beige slacks! Awesome!
My favourite school boy hero made is Man utd debut in this game No 9 STUART PANCHO PEARSON I ALSO HAVE THE SHIRT
I was there as an 18 year old Orient fan. Had to rush off after the game because my family were starting a week at a holiday camp in Essex. COYOs.
My love for football came with my love for United in the late seventies, my first memories, the cup final win over the scousers, and the dramatic loss of course to Arsenal in 79'. I never realised what a big fella and a good footballer Stuart "Pancho" Pearson was, though! Jeez, what's happened to the world? Where's the time gone. These days were such happy memories.
Great season, so much cheer after the previous relegation season. Utd had a great time in that 2nd Div season. The next season we knew we were a lot better than before, first home game we beat Sheffield United 5 to 1, ah such memories.
I was at that Sheffield game, I went home and told my dad I think United will win the league. United might have but for The Doc having a fit and dropping Stepney for Paddy Roche.
Home & Away, lived for Saturday & Wednesday nights. 'THE' Red Army Years!
No arguing with the referee, in fact some players were holding there hands up to acknowledge to the referee and ,no holding or wrestling in the area when there’s a corner , no pulling on shirts, it was so much fairer back then 👍
You really are wearing the rose tinted glasses.
@@Andyferguson-ml4uonot really. from what I've seen 70s skulduggery was more honest.Yes there were a few punches thrown(though not as nany as legend would have you believe) and some tough tackles. But players weren't as sneaky particularly going down to win free kicks. And if you wanted to get out the car park in one piece you didn't dare two foot anyone!....The fans were an awful rable mind.
look at the size of Stuart Pearson, fella was a beast
Yes he was my hero has a young lad I have he's 1977 fa cup final shirt the 1 being worn in the game quite a few Pancho shirts in my collection
I have to laugh, at the United fans these days complaining about how bad the team is, I was there when King Dennis sent us down, but it was good for United they needed a reset fantastic watching them in the second division, becoming champions coming straight back up, the fans back than, were amazing.
He didn't send us down. If you're a red you should know that .
@@robertsonmark3890 yes of course you are right! I know that Birmingham won and West Ham got a point but mate I was at the game it was a game United needed to win when Dennis scored everyone in the ground, though he has Sent us down at time! I have been a United fan since the early 60s I have seen it all over the years.
To be fair it was a team that contained Buchan, Morgan, Houston, Macari and Holton who all played for Scotland at the time, plus future England internationals in Pearson and Greenhoff and Irish internationals in Daly and McIlroy. It really had no business being on the 2nd Division.
@@robertsonmark3890 and also only one N in Denis
Denis didnt send us down, that's another blue nose myth
Away fans were too frightened to come to Old Trafford back in the day
The sub linesman will have a great story to tell when he got home.
'You'll never guess what happened to me all those years ago....I went to watch Orient play Manchester United and ended up running the line'...
'Yeah righto mate, whatever'....
Low driven crosses were a feature of this United team, deadly against Sheffield United a week later.
Indeed. The Red Army went in Low & Hard too. 😂
Great days in the second division, Remember this game well.
I'm a Leeds Utd fan for my sins (don't spit) but I have to say there is something magical and enthralling about this barnstorming swashbuckling Manchester United juggernaut of a 1974/5 team that was so hysterically, focused, resolute and determined to make it back to Division 1 ..their rightful place of course.
nice comments... man u fan here I always missed Leeds when not in the top flight and love it when they are as they are also a club who belong
And the rest of the season is history! GGMU!
No names on there backs No insesent gibberish comentry long hair no daft var or poor officials like nowadays proper comentry when football was football
I can’t believe this was 49 years ago already!
I think the present United team would easily beat that team of 1975, I only just started going to watch them back then being 10 years old (I lived on Avondale Rd a few minutes walk, and I think it was half price for kids and OAP’s
Always went in the Stretford End or the Paddock, loved the atmosphere!
What stands out to me is no goalkeeper gloves and one substitute
A classic!
I was in the ground.
Didn't even see a orient supporter.
I was at this match.
I went ti every game that season, those were the days when you could just turn up and get in I'm sure it was just under 4 quid to get in ot those days
What is this “crossing the ball” into the box malarkey?! 😂🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Not best game...I watched them that season a lot...they played much better. Where is Hill? Great season...we needed a Reset...and relegation and the Doc provided it...once we were up, we were a top team again! Utd...Utd....Utd...
Hill Joined around November 1975..when Man U were back in Division 1...assuming u mean Gordon Hill
@@trebsscan9644 Yes, just checked and that's right...Coppell earlier in the March of 75. It's so long ag now, unless you check the team. Pearson was a great signing...very agile, and with Hill and Coppell we became more direct....one attack after the other. Thank goodness we had Buchan-saved us many times. All the best.
@nialloneill5097 no worries... I watched a documentary on Hill a few years back ..I think he was at Palace (the scum...mind u they were practically my local team ..) I do hope they don't do to 10hag what they did to the Doc after the 77 FA Cup...Man U would have been awesome as far back as 78 but we will never know.. Fergie certainly made amends on more than one level..
@@trebsscan9644
Wasn't Hill signed from Millwall? I was an Oldham Athletic supporter, and we'd just been promoted to Div 2 in 1974, saw us beat Man Utd at Boundary Park on 28 December. The Doc was furious after the game on account of our very competitive approach, lol.
@staceygrove5976..yeah ur right..sorry to @nialloneill5097 for getting that wrong ... the Den...South London was certainly full of teams.. Charlton too... saw my 1st match at the Valley...
To anyone that went, how many Reds were there that day?
I wasn't there so don't know any numbers but I do know they always took huge amounts of fans to away games - always had more than their official ticket allocation
@@davidsmith6355 yeah I just missed out on these days as I didn't start going to matches til 1979.
Greenhoff played well
It's a pleasure to find out that man utd only won 3 away matches 1973 - 1974 season any wonder relegation happened. Players stayed togather and sadly came up after 1974 - 1975 season . For the history books only 3 times won EUROPE top prize. Big doesn't mean best. 😂😂😂😂😂
a lot of women in the crowd for Orient. I remember there being next to no women at games in the '80s, never mind the '70s.
Norwich. I was surprised to notice their support had their girlfriends with them. United were let in & rushed right over the fence into them without stopping, & Reds falling through the roof. Mad times.
Financial bonanza....and a lot of hooliganism.
Lou Macari, Stepney, greenhof a ref ina proper kit…..
Football has come a long way in the last 50 years. What a crap standard and also amateur hour with the linesman getting injured without any official backup appointed to the game.
But toxic fans are ruining the umpires impartiality and safety.
Better than today's plastic premier league.
@@allanstack7016 That was the second division.
@@gustaaf1892 that emphasises the point Allan was making
@@davidsmith6355 How do you figure that? If you consider the second division of the 70s better than todays EPL you are the most clueless person who has ever posted on YT.
Greenoff is woeful
That's a modern "fan" for you.
What a crap game and both goal keepers were totally useless, 2nd Division more like Park football on a Sunday 😂
assenal.....when did you last win a title you bunch of losers.
I was there away at Orient fond memories 🙃🏴🏴🏴🏴
Willie morgan one of the most underrated players ever! And pancho pearson what a buy he was! Tough times but great wonderful memories! Some of the utd fans now crying about how crap it is now! Dont know how lucky theyve been if under 30!
