Somewhere, Mr. Guitar - Chet Atkins - is smiling.... It was was Guy Van Duser who developed this arrangement for Chet and made it famous in the finger-style guitar world. Like two peas in a pod... Richard Smith and Guy Van Duser together are it!!! Wow!
Loved the comment, "Nobody clapped along." My first introduction to this arrangement was by Chet Atkins, who rightfully credited Guy with doing the arrangement. That performance was marred by idiots in the audience deciding that their out of time e clapping would improve the experience. Chet cut the piece short because of that.
It's really great to see Richard with Guy. Of course I am sorry we lost Richard from the UK to the USA - why I remember him when he was just a kid! However, he's in just the right company with the likes of Guy. Well done both. Wonderful to see. Even better to hear thee!Berry in UK
0:19 "I've only done it once" That's amazing, it shows Richard must have some photographic memory for learning guitar music, I wonder if it's memorizing music or [primarily] memorizing pattern progressions on the guitar neck.
@@johnb6850 I'm not a native speaker but to me it sounds like he says: "I've already PLAYED it but let's do it together again", implying he might have played the song earlier that same day
I would like to meet the two boneheads who disliked this. Obviously you have never touched a guitar, let alone tried to play one. Well done Guy and Richard.
Chet said that it was Van Duser who arranged it and taught him how to play it....the fact that these two guys are almost jamming it (well, Richard Smith is, anyway) probably upped the tempo. It was only the second time that Smith had played it (which explains why he left some of the fiddly bits to GVD), but I bet you a pound to a pich of shit that by now he's note perfect.
@khmak9387 it's Guy's arrangement which Rich plays fairly often. Not many can play it that well, so it's just two masters having fun on a tricky piece.
Merle Travis, Chet and Jerry live on through your awesome mastery of the guitar forms that they pioneered. Great on you two!
I watched this with my guitar on my lap and when it was done , she ran away from home, never to be seen again!!!
Spectacular performance... WOW!!!!! Just brilliant guys. Congratulations.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Awesome. I'm speechless.
Beautiful!
this is nbeautiful i hold my guitarr the whole session! love ur engrygy
It don't get much better than this!!!
Always neat to see the guy who arranged it, play it.

Impossibly great Guy and Richard...Jack Baker NYC
SPECTACULAR!
Excellent!!!
I was there to amazing guitar players

As Chuck Akers would say, THAT IS effin' A, elfin, B AND ... EFFIN' C!
Como cuanto cuesta esa guitarra? Y si todavía se puede encontrar?
Yeah, but does it djent?!
Guy and Richard: Hold our beers...
😜😉

Or he forgot that he played it 100 times before.
Naah, if he'd played it that many times he'd be note perfect.
He said “ I’ve already done it once, let’s do it again together
He hears it in real time fantastic ability.

It wasn't me. I like the playing. But with better guitars they would have sounded much better.
It's possible that the sound quality of the recording device, whatever it was, didn't do the guitars justice.
This two-player piano piece sounds awful on guitars.
Chet (Mr. Guitar) played it best with is perfect sense of rhythm and not too much tempo. RIP Chet Atkins.

Rum Have; Sorry, but no he didn't. "Chet" wasn't infallible, nor did he walk on the water.
I do prefer Chets tempo and feel, he was always so relaxed. But that said, I think in 2022 Richard Smith is the best in this Style of music.
Where can I find ears like theirs?
You develop them from childhood.....
Que marca son esas guitarra?
Is it a modification of Guy's solo arrangement for 2 guitars?
No. They are just playing in unison. Great performance.
@@robsmith8052Why double-up on a solo arrangement, though?

@@khmak9387 impromptu performance at a Chet Atkins convention. Chet also played Guy's arrangement.
A brilliant arrangement and performance that, unfortunately, Chet Atkins usually gets credit for.
kenx♫
They are good players but the guitars don't sound too good.
The room acoustics are not ideal that is all.
Probably because they are plugged in.
