Dude I'm over here telling my younger siblings to forget the School Shooter Drills and to just hop out the nearest window you find and run. Not the best choice, but way better than hiding in a compromised spot.

The teachers have a responsibility to you and have to know where you are so they can get to you and get you out. If that had been a real emergency, the teacher would’ve had to go looking for you or send someone to go looking for you, and they can’t just NOT find you. It’d be real hard to tell the parents of the kid they left behind “It’s just one kid, and I got most of ‘em so we came out on top in the end anyway, right?”. Exact same reason you quietly walk out of the building in a single file line during fire drills. Additionally, just because you were “stealthy” and got out during 1 fake drill doesn’t mean it’ll work again or it’ll work in an active shooter scenario, and they likely got after you partially because they didn’t want you getting a big head, thinking it would work again, and doing it again. Obviously, since schools are stupid and would rather demand blind obedience to their almighty authority figures than treat kids like humans with brains, their attempt failed miserably since you still think it was the right thing to do.

The last school shooting drill I did was in a HS with a class of like 8 kids. This was before Covid.. They was acting mad childish.. I subbed in well over 20 schools and seen a fire drill done twice same day in one. Seen a school shooting drill done twice that I can recall.
We have lockdown drills every month, but my HS teachers tell us that if the shooter is on the other side of the school we will just try to run and escape the school but If they are near us my teachers tell us that we will barricade the door and try to defend ourselves with stuff in the classroom even though our school wants us to practice going into the corners and closing the blinds, we just sit in our chairs until the drill is over because our teachers explain what we would actually do. The county just forced all schools to do this drill a certain way each month even though that isn’t the best strategy to survive a school shooting
Yeah this is actually true, cause a lot of the shootings that happen in schools are from students from that school, so they would also know where the students would hide or what would they do, so that would give them more details of how to do a successful shooting
In my school, if the class is inside the msin building there is ALWAYS a giant freaking glass window that lets you see into it. The only way to counteract that huge flaw is if the class stacks the tables against the windows and doors, which depends on if there's even enough time or space. If a shooter comes, I'm just hopping out that window and running out of the school. It's not worth risking my life just so I'm not seen as a coward. And it's not cowardice, it's called being smart. Literally no one thinks running away from an active shooter situation is cowardly lmao. The argument against running vs sheltering in place is that running supposedly makes it more likely for the shooter to encounter you.
Now at least in my school district, they want the teachers to protect children (break up fights, etc) which I think in a school shooting situation the realistic thing is every man for there own, but it's still terrible they want the teachers to interviene with anything at all. And of course this skit is highly exaggerated, so that wouldn't be a good baseline to ground a real life situation off of, as well. The ideal situation would actually be that the teacher takes precautions in this dangerous world,(Yeah, I know, first world problems), by having a firearm to protect both them and the students if needed. Not sure if you've heard of flight or fight scenarios or not, but you'll be forced to make a choice and it's usually the latter. The risk is going to school freely in a not so safe world. The precaution is strapping up. It's not that the teacher is forced. They have a choice even before a policy like that would actually take place.

Imma be real. If a school shooter on campus, I'm going to try to get the hell out of there. They don't change the school shooting drill protocols and they'll most likely know what to do. Running out of the school could work unless the armed individual was outside of the school the entire time. If people in the school hear shots they're going to lockdown the school. So you could assume that there's a shooter inside while they are actually outside and then they shoot you as you run out.

I grew up in a country other than the U.S.A. where it isn't a problem. U.S.A. is unique in its occurances of school shootings, Mexico is number 2, but it is a very very distant number 2.....that's saying something....Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to live in, yet even they see school as being a safe space for kids, usually any events that happen there are more terror related or happen because of circumstance.....not because of some deranged unstable kid. I think that id we ban all guns, at best, school shooters and other criminals would still have access to guns with the black market, while the rest of the population would be defenseless and unable to stop shooters on the go. I've had the same train of thought, but then you have situations in which the shooter is not a student and that is where all this comes into effect. If all these protocols and drills and whatever else they want to do have a slight chance of working one day, then it's much better than being entirely unprepared. I don't think you can execute a plan that the shooter is aware of, it only makes the situation worse. But, if it's an "outside" shooter, then these drills are effective/helpful.

And to say there would be no shootings if there were no guns is simply wrong, even seeing how no sane citizen in the US would give up their arms and even the amount of guns in circulation in both the illegal and legal market. Trying to take guns away from Americans is like trying to take tea away from the british. Its simply impossible even seeing how I promise you there will be a revolt if the government attempts to seize the arms of the citizens.

I'm with them. An armed person vs unarmed people means a lot of dead people. However 1 armed person vs 10 armed teachers, well suddenly the risk is highly reduced. It's reduced because now the killer knows every teacher has a gun and more then likely has training to use it. On top of that, he'd be out numbered. Truth be told, every American should own a gun and every American should be trained on gun safety from a young age.
I'm blessed to not have to go to school anymore but I have 3 younger siblings all under the age of 15 and it really is something to look into, these drills literally give all of the information to a possible shooter.

We need a drill that is like a double edged sword: where the shooter knows whats to come, and where its a guarantee the shooter cannot succeed in getting over it.' Possibly having bullet proof windows that are only accessible to open from the inside, or possible lock door systems where if the shooter is at the entrance, there is a double door that locks him from getting to a section of the school. These sections can be placed at different hallways that still allow students or teachers in any section with the shooter to get out and keeping the shooter in. Maybe also allow classroom doors to always be locked when class starts and have people knock to get in. Makes it way more safer. These are just quick ideas that may work
I mean that would make students in certain sections the most vulnerable since instead of running around the whole schools slowing down the death rate. For small schools it's a group up of select targets. No need to run around since those stuck in a section from the locked doors would be goners especially those in the class with the shooter. since the police would also have to come inside to evacuate them. That is if they try to apprehend them than alert the people in the schools it's safe on the loud speaker

My answer to that is it’s very hard to get a grenade, some states you can’t. As a result we have zero to very few grenades related deaths, the same argument applies to schools shooter drills and having easy access to high power weapons. My issue with a school drill is that their point of view is coming from the shooter being some random ass dude that doesn't go to the school. When they know damn well that one of the students is gonna be the shooter and will know damn well where the people will be hiding at. I mean every school drill we go to the same damn closet and turn out all the lights. Sometimes they even let us know ahead of time when the school drill will be taking place.

Bro, statistical data shows that situations are stabilized quicker when there are guns in the hand of those who use them defensively. On top of this, the reason shooters generally pick areas like schools or churches is because they know people probably won't be there to shoot back. Having guns will likely reduce the chance of a shooting in the first place.

Literally no one thinks running away from an active shooter situation is cowardly lmao. The argument against running vs sheltering in place is that running supposedly makes it more likely for the shooter to encounter you.
Now at least in my school district, they want the teachers to protect children (break up fights, etc) which I think in a school shooting situation the realistic thing is every man for there own, but it's still terrible they want the teachers to interviene with anything at all. Being a teacher now anywhere is ridiculous and I thank all teachers for what they do.

And of course this skit is highly exaggerated, so that wouldn't be a good baseline to ground a real life situation off of, as well. The ideal situation would actually be that the teacher takes precautions in this dangerous world,(Yeah, I know, first world problems), by having a firearm to protect both them and the students if needed. Not sure if you've heard of flight or fight scenarios or not, but you'll be forced to make a choice and it's usually the latter. The risk is going to school freely in a not so safe world. The precaution is strapping up. It's not that the teacher is forced. They have a choice even before a policy like that would actually take place.

Imma be real. If a school shooter on campus, I'm going to try to get the hell out of there. They don't change the school shooting drill protocols and they'll most likely know what to do. I'm hopping out the window, jumping out the gate, and I'm generally just hoping I'm near an exit cuz aint no way in hell imma just sit still when they already know to aim downwards while passing the classes. The whole plan for if a school shooter is absolutely compromised. Scratch that. I'll tell it to my kids. I'll tell it to my siblings. A school shooter on campus, *do your best to get off campus* . Running out of the school could work unless the armed individual was outside of the school the entire time. If people in the school hear shots they're going to lockdown the school. So you could assume that there's a shooter inside while they are actually outside and then they shoot you as you run out.

I was blessed to grow up in an era where we were more scared of catching an ass whoopin and being embarrassed at school. Then to grow doing shooting drills.
I grew up in a country other than the U.S.A. where it isn't a problem. U.S.A. is unique in its occurances of school shootings, Mexico is number 2, but it is a very very distant number 2.....that's saying something....Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to live in, yet even they see school as being a safe space for kids, usually any events that happen there are more terror related or happen because of circumstance.....not because of some deranged unstable kid. I've had the same train of thought, but then you have situations in which the shooter is not a student and that is where all this comes into effect.
If all these protocols and drills and whatever else they want to do have a slight chance of working one day, then it's much better than being entirely unprepared.
I don't think you can execute a plan that the shooter is aware of, it only makes the situation worse. But, if it's an "outside" shooter, then these drills are effective/helpful.

I'm blessed to not have to go to school anymore but I have 3 younger siblings all under the age of 15 and it really is something to look into, these drills literally give all of the information to a possible shooter.

We need a drill that is like a double edged sword: where the shooter knows whats to come, and where its a guarantee the shooter cannot succeed in getting over it.'
Possibly having bullet proof windows that are only accessible to open from the inside, or possible lock door systems where if the shooter is at the entrance, there is a double door that locks him from getting to a section of the school. These sections can be placed at different hallways that still allow students or teachers in any section with the shooter to get out and keeping the shooter in. Maybe also allow classroom doors to always be locked when class starts and have people knock to get in. Makes it way more safer.

For small schools it's a group up of select targets. My answer to that is it’s very hard to get a grenade, some states you can’t. As a result we have zero to very few grenades related deaths, the same argument applies to schools shooter drills and having easy access to high power weapons. My issue with a school drill is that their point of view is coming from the shooter being some random ass dude that doesn't go to the school. When they know damn well that one of the students is gonna be the shooter and will know damn well where the people will be hiding at.

On top of this, the reason shooters generally pick areas like schools or churches is because they know people probably won't be there to shoot back. Having guns will likely reduce the chance of a shooting in the first place.
