im 53 and have become hardened by this shitty world . hearing this brings a tear to my eye and takes me back to a time when everyone was polite , respectful and the world was a happier place
Well said....my sentiments as well. The past was a different world in more ways than one. People didn't have a lot but they seemed happier and more content....when did you last hear anyone whistle?
Rupert, black beauty,Robinson Crusoe,The flashing blades ,Foly foot, white horses, champion the wonder horse , Zorro , and many many more .What a time to be alive .
I'm Jamaican. I got a teddy bear as a gift on Christmas Eve in 1973. I named him "Rupert" and have him in my bedroom to this day! I didn't know why I did so until I chatted with a man online earlier this week. We were talking about his daughter's discarded teddy bears, and when I told him about my Rupert he told me tht he had a Rupert and a Paddington. I was floored at this and decided to look up the name "Rupert the Bear" online a few minutes ago... Look where I am now! This is AMAZING!!!
I believe that White Horses placed no.1 and Rupert no.7. best childrens theme tunes. I am truely honoured and humbled by it all. To be remembered by so many fans after all this time is very heart warming to me. Thank you so much for your comment. Jackie Lee.
I loved this song as a child, although the chorus used to always make me cry when singing it. It's been in my head somewhat for over 25 years, but this is the first time hearing it again... and I burst into tears at the chorus again! :-D Brought me right back to happy, simpler times.
You know, it's a strange thing but in amongst all the current chaos of this world there are particular moments of our past that suddenly makes you feel that actually, everything is okay again...snug and secure. When I hear Jackie sing this song, when I hear Oliver Postgates voice (narrator of Bagpuss and the Clangers etc) and of course White Horses. Thanks to Jackie and co for adding to my wonderful childhood memories. And thank you to you Paul for uploading this.
I am an absolute music fanatic... anything from Elvis to Run DMC to Black Sabbath... but this tune always gets me.... goes back to my 70's childhood, I just love it. Thanks for sharing.
I sang this to my little niece recently and I still have my Rupert tea set which I plan to leave her when im gone. I loved Ru so much and this song. Thanks Jackie.
Just excellent! I remember watching Rupert the Bear way back in 1971 as a 6 year old! I'm sure my mum bought me a 45 single of this soundtrack! Thank you for happy times X
Brings back happy memories of my own childhood in the early 70's. My Dad is 89 years old and he was a fan of Rupert when he was a child in the 1930's so shows how long this character has featured in children's lives. Anyway, nice song.
I called my little boy Rupert as I have always loved the name since having the Rupert annuals in the 1970's, also in memory of a retired racehorse called Rupert that lived in a field near our house when I was a child. I found this recording on TH-cam and learnt the words so I could sing it to my son and he loves it. When I play him this TH-cam clip he is captivated. Thank you Jackie, your beautiful singing is still bringing happiness to children decades later.
I remember when they first started using this theme tune, I'd never heard anything like it on children's tv, I was about 9 at the time but still loved the series. The song set my pulse racing and seemed to promise some wonderful place. I put it down to the energy and skill it was sung with. What a great singer.
I was 6 years old in 1968, and I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this clip since then. I still read Rupert books when I get the chance. Love it - Thanks Jackie Lee
Oh my goodness, this takes me straight back to my childhood. Absolutely of its time and completely charming. Thanks very much for posting. I'm off to find Tales from the Riverbank & The Herbs now!
Just love this recording of Rupert The Bear by Jackie Lee. I was born in 1963, so I well remember the original children's TV show which was first class. I actually have this song on original 45 vinyl; it's on AVENUE Recordings Ltd issued in 1971, record code classification NUE 147, credited ATV/Kirshner (Western/Roker). Still plays like a dream at 33 and a third after all these years. Thanks.
Hi Joe, glad you still enjoy my Rupert recording. I cant believe how long ago I recorded it. Mind you it seems like yesterday to me, ah! memories. Jackie Lee.
Still play this and White Horses when we have get togethers with friends. Memories of such great times. Also Jacky happened to be the name of my first school "crush" at 11 yrs old in the 1960s, so had extra meaning to me. Thanks.....Geoff
This show in this era is why we named our son Rupert when he was born in 2013. I was a little boy when Rupert the bear was on tv. I adored it and treasure it to this day. Our Rupert is now 6. He loves to hear this exact original of the song. Its such a weird feeling to see him enjoy the song so much because he looks just like I did when I was 6 and loves it and gets excited to hear it like I did. Such a special song to me and our boy. And yes of course....he has a Rupert the bear plush toy he sleeps with every night. Jx
Another, more innocent world. A world of stable families, the local bobby, family mealtimes, children outside all day unsupervised. I love the key changes in this song. This world will never, ever come back but it's good to imagine it.
Jackie is a great artist, and she's way too modest on TH-cam. I've found lots of other great songs she sang..... Inigo Pipkin and The Town I Live in (from 1966) to name just 2. Thanks Jackie, you helped make my childhood a little brighter in those long cold winter evenings back then. Great memories watching Rupert etc...
Had the honour of chatting to Jackie through You Tube a few months back now. She didnt say exactly what she is up to now but from the converstion sounds like she is still going strong and released a new CD of all her hits late last year and early this year. Another great song she sang was the Theme to White Horses which became a major hit
@MsJackieLee Hello again ms Lee. Yes i really do love that song. i actually read today that, in 2003, White Horses was voted the GREATEST theme tune in teleision history, and Rupert, was no. 7 in the same poll. Thats something to be very proud of, Hope you had a great weekend. , Stephen x
This was the first song I ever wrote for a Children's TV program, and Jackie Lee did a great vocal of it for us, she also sang the White Horses theme she was a great singer. Ron Roker
Ms jackie Lee.Loved this programme when I was in my younger years.I want to download this theme to my mobile as I call the boss Rupert and will know when it is him phoning me.
Hearing this song, so beautifully sung, takes me back 40 years to my early childhood and so many happy memories. Thank you for contributing to it Jackie. This song will always be special to me.
@UGSB12 What a lovely comment your memories are priceless. I am so pleased to have been a part of your happy childhood memories All the Best, Jackie Lee.
Hi Taz. Yes it was a different age. You could play outside without a worry. Parents were happy for their children to be playing and didn't fear for their safety. Also the TV programmes were something all the family could sit down and watch. And without video/sky recorders you had to be in to watch your favourite programme at the time it was shown. Memories of a different age. Even the power cuts were fun!
Like so many others I fondly remember this from my youth in the early 70s. Also, and I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but it was also widely played on the 80s Mod scene. Just as a bit of fun at the end of the night, but it was memories of drunken Mods dancing in a big circle and loudly singing along to this that brought me here! I think it was something to do with the groovy checked trousers! Get well soon Jackie, you brought me a lot of pleasure twice in my life!
Whatever about the song (which is superb!), an entire generation of women would *kill* to get their hands on that dress!!! Thank you for the wonderful memories - bless you!
Thankyou from the bottom of my heart Jackie. Rupert and White Horses brings tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat. It takes me back to when I was an innocent child. Such a beautiful voice. My freinds can't believe that these are among my top 10 favorite songs and I mean alongside The Clash and Jimi Hendrix. Genius is genius. Love you.
Hi there paulreno1, thank you for this video, I didn't know it existed till today. Rupert was made and televised in color and that clip that you see was also in color as far as I remember. Thats why I wore that dress as it was multi colored. I wish I had known it looked soooooooooo dreadful I would never have been seen dead in it. Thanks to all of the people who have taken time to write all of the comments. I loved reading each and every one of them, Thanks a whole bunch. Jackie Lee.
I really dont know what one has to do to get a CD of my recordings out of Univeral, maybe if I stood on my head it might work, lol. I am doing fine, and thanks for asking Paul. Jackie L
@srboath Thank you again for your delightful comment. I am so thrilled that you also like my White Horses theme song recording. You must like it to have it on your mp3. Thanks a lot. Cheers, Jackie Lee.
Puff The Magic Dragon was another. I had that along with this one all those years ago. Wish my mum hadn't given them away when I hit the punk scene, theese things are precious memories as part of my childhood.
@MsJackieLee Thanks for taking the time to reply :) The sixties was a fantastic era for music and many songs (such as yours), didn't get the success they deserved. Wow this song brings back so many happy memories!!! I've been listening to some of Jackie's work on the Dream Babes compilation albums. Beautiful voice and real quality songs. We spoke a few years ago, always remember that.
England as it used to be. And it was good.
You were, and remain, a fantastic singer. This tune is iconic. And you delivered it!! Not many people has that on their CV!! Great job, Jackie!!
You will always be remembered Jackie by millions of people's childhoods. Such warm memories too..
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I loved this song as a child, although the chorus used to always make me cry when singing it. It's been in my head somewhat for over 25 years, but this is the first time hearing it again... and I burst into tears at the chorus again! :-D Brought me right back to happy, simpler times.
Reminds me of afternoons with my dearly departed father after he picked me up from school in the 70s.
Love you Dad. 😥😘

Why did children's TV shows have such great tunes. Stingray, Follyfoot, Thunderbirds etc?

A monochrome video yet Rupert and his pals were shown in colour. What a time to be alive.
I loved Robert the Bear. This song takes me right back to my childhood ❤️❤️❤️🧸🧸

Golden Shot with Bob Monkhouse and Jackie Lee Rupert The Bear December 13th 1970 those Children are now over 50 years old
I grew up watching the 90's cartoon.....so why does this song make me feel nostalgic?
This could evoke childhood for anybody. It's extraordinary.
OMG THIS is the song I remember ❤️
@MsJackieLee We tend to forget about your other work. Those studio tapes must be sat in some vault, gathering dust. As there are over 94,000 views on this alone, there are enough fans to make a worthwhile release... and for me to get some "I love Jackie Lee" T-Shirts printed!
First record I ever bought! I had a pair of Rupert-style trousers. Guess what my nickname was? Middle-aged, too!!!!
