Nice video as always! Sometimes it's hard for me to identify each one of the apostles in art, so I'm very glad you made a video about it, thank you for the explanation.

Thanks! It's definitely not always as easy as I make it look in the video. But if you know which attributes are associated with which apostles, it will make the process a bit easier. Like if you see someone portrayed with a knife, there is a good chance we are looking at Bartholomew.

Thanks for this clear explanation. I am usually glad that I can read the titles of the paintings because some of the lesser-known apostles are hard to identify. Next time in the museum, I will be better prepared.

Glad it was helpful. The real test is probably when we see paintings that contain multiple saints, and see which of them we can identify based on their attributes. And as mentioned at the end of the video, there are many more saints than just these apostles. I may do a follow-up video in the future to go a bit deeper or discuss some other saints and their attributes.

Very helpful video again, thanks! So far I wasn't much further than Key=Peter, but I always find it oddly rewarding to identify individuals in paintings - plus it obviously makes interpretations easier and increases the appreciation for each work of art.
I would be thrilled to see more videos on symbols in various pieces of art. Be it mythology, plants, animals etc. - so much hidden meaning so often: one of your videos would go a long way providing clarity! 🙂

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. It is indeed always a great feeling if you can make sense of a painting without having to read the caption first.

Thanks! I plan on making some other videos on symbology in the future, possibly a follow-up on religious symbols and something on mythological symbols.

Glad you did. Tomorrow, I will release a video about the symbolism related to the Four Evangelists.

Thank you for this tutorial. I have taken many many stained glass window pictures over the years and trying to identify who is in them is very difficult. This will help.

Yes, it can be quite challenging to identify them without reading a description of the artwork, but it is also rewarding when you start to recognize some symbols and are able to identify different figures!

I always prefer to have the Apostles as recognizable, since otherwise, that denies them their identities.

I think that that was the intention of most artists as well, though today we are just a little bit less familiar with all their symbols compared to back in the day.
