Hey Andrew! Just came across your review. Loved it! I'm so glad you were able to appreciate what a cool experience it was for these kids. I know you asked how this even came to be. Basically, my daughter and the other band members all used to attend Burbank Music Academy, which formed bands with students of similar skill levels that wanted to get out and perform. My daughter and her band had been playing together for about 2 years. They got the opportunity to be the entertainment at a small charity golf tournament after the players were done playing and eating their food. Danny happened to be one of the players! He saw their set list, and then offered to join them on The Pot. It was super last minute, but the kids handled it like pros and had a blast! In the video from the other angle, you can see him saying that it's been a long time since he played it! :) Thanks so much for giving this such a positive review. It was so fun to watch you have fun watching them have fun! ;)
Hey Aubrey!!! So glad you replied. That is a great memory for life. Wow so it was completely impromptu! Absolutely amazing. Kudos to the band, Danny (for being such a champ) and the supportive parents.
Danny Carey is a drumming legend, and he took time with some teenagers to play a Tool song. What an awesome guy! Those kids will remember that the rest of their lives!
Yeah, this was straight awesome Aubrey, gave me the goosebumps actually?? What a great dude Danny obviously is!! And feel played Andrew Rooney, you're a pretty good dude too!
Rooney…you NEED to watch the other video of the same performance. Danny talks to the band in the beginning and says “it’s been awhile since I played this song.” Then, at the end, the sweetest thing is when he stands up (all 6’5” of him) and shakes the guitarist’s hand, then goes over to the bassist and just envelopes her in a gentle bear hug. I love Danny. He’s the G.O.A.T! What a beautiful person.
To have the friggin balls to play the friggin bass at that friggin age in this song with DANNY CAREY at the drums is what impresses me the most! SHE is badass and does not know, where life is going. But when she keeps on music, she will be happy^^
Bwahaha... Someone commented on the alternate original video: "These kids played their ass off, props to the soccer mom on drums" Thanks for the reaction. This was great.
You are right he is very very nice and down to earth and genuine. Love that he did this for the kids and just rolled with it. Danny does not have a kid there but does have 2 young kids. Let's not forget he's 6'5 playing that little kit. Love it
always when i have depression attack i'm searching for Danny's live performances. i'm still crying but not for sadness but for happiness :D those two videos (cause there other angle) looped just make me happier :D and i'm not even a drummer :D
I have had to come to terms with being a DC fanboy when I have never really been a fanboy of anyone in my entire life. I can only say what I sense, being that I don’t know him personally but he has to be one of nicest, most humble and gracious people I have seen in the entertainment industry and just also happens to the greatest drummer of all time In the greatest band of all time. Is my bias showing? 😆

I was waiting for you to comment on the kit. Sure, it must be awkward to play on different equipment. However, in this vid, I think it's more significant how much smaller is this kit. His options were severely limited. In spite of this, he still managed to express the art in a way that was not only authentic to the original, but also modulated to suit his fellow musicians. Ok, I see that this reaction is two years old. This may be a repeat, and/or go unnoticed. I am still grateful to you for sharing. Thank you.

There’s another video of this performance that shows the whole band. Also this vid shows how a real musician can make the most basic of instrument sound remarkable, I’m sure this drum kit was very minimalistic/basic compared to his own kit but it still sounded awesome
How could you possibly hate this??!! In chalking it up to jealousy. To be able to play music with the GOAT Mr. Danny Carey is the ultimate for any young musician. Good for her. I'm so proud. Danny C is just the cutest for doing this. Love him.
Thumbs down usually come from those people who personally hate Tool. Just like someone said that entire Tool discography is the worst in rock music because... they apply too much math. 😕
So there are two videos with this performance each was shot from two different angles. I prefer the one that was shot from left side as you can see whole band including guitarist (his parents took a video from that side). According to parent's comment (as I remember) on that second video Danny stopped by Burbank music school as a part of charity or fundraiser and asked if he can jam with the band. The drummer agreed without any hesitation and Danny played entire song with the band. The band doesn't exist anymore. th-cam.com/video/-JWdh-F1xdQ/w-d-xo.html
7:53 I have to totally agree with this statement as I had my own bitter experience. It was our band's (me and a couple of our highschool friends) first "big" music competition in a festival. We had our one cover song + one original song for the competition. The festival already provided the drumset and when our band's turn came up and I sat on that it, I felt really really weird. Like I practised on a 4 peice but there was a 6 peice on the stage. So doing linear fills around the toms were really weird. The springs of the bass drum pedals were strong, even the inclination of the beater was not what I used to. And what's worst was that at home, my drums are tuned down quite low and had some cloth over it for obvious sound insulation so I won't disturb the neighbors. But the drumset they provided for the competition was tuned so high that my bounce was irregular and doing double strokes were really difficult. Yeah, not very fond memories of that
Glad you made a statement about playing somebody else’s kit. He made many mistakes but I agree that was the reason. It’s like going from playing a Martin guitar to a first act but harder. I’m more of a guitarist but dabble on drums and not too shabby so I get it.
I would suggest that, too. 1) you get to see Danny play up close and in-person. Nothing could be better for any drummer; and 2) I'd be terrified to play in front of someone of that caliber.
Andrew, FYI, one of the other students (the guitarist) also posted a video of this cover, shot from another angle. The sound is maybe a bit better and you can see the whole band as well as a few seconds of Danny's interaction with the kids afterwards, which is fantastic. th-cam.com/video/-JWdh-F1xdQ/w-d-xo.html

I love how at halfway through, Danny is feeling it and playing a legit Tool show🤣

Give Danny a brick, 2 sandwiches and a tomato and he'll still make it sound great.

I wonder if their original drummer was there saying how he would have played it better. Like every guitarist would have!
