    The Assassin Official Trailer 1 (2015) - Hou Hsiao-Hsien Movie HD
    In 9th-century China, Nie Yinniang is a young woman who was abducted in childhood from the family of a decorated general and raised by a nun who trained her in the martial arts. After 13 years of exile, she is returned to the land of her birth as an exceptional assassin, with orders to kill her former betrothed. She must confront her parents, her memories, and her long-repressed feelings in a choice to sacrifice the man she loves or break forever with the sacred way of the righteous assassins. Rich with shimmering, breathing texture and punctuated by brief but unforgettable bursts of action, THE ASSASSIN is a martial arts film like none made before it.

      The problem with your statement is that movies are made for the public, not filmmakers. On the other hand some films are put out there as sort of a show of their work and not meaning to make a profit. As for me, no matter how aesthetically beautiful a movie is, I do not want to read a movie so I limit most foreign-made movies.

    Sounds a little bit crazy, I have seen this movie four times within such a short time in New York! Just can not help, love every part of it, fight scenes, music, sound, cinematography, color, wind, light, plot, Shu Qi and Hou's art.

    This is the classiest martial arts period movie I've ever seen. People who are used to cheesy, big budget kungfu flicks with over the top set designs and soundtracks won't get that this film is shot from the perspective of a master assassin.
    There's a lot of waiting, quiet reflection and study of her targets. The lingering shot allows the audience to share the assassin's heightened sense of her emotion and surroundings before she decides to make a kill. During the 'wait' shots, every mundane detail, from the palace dancers to the swish of her blade, comes alive.

      Well, that's because you don't recognize every complexion in every action. There's a really complicated story behind the role that forced her to be a "TERRIBLE" actress. Without fully understanding of the film sure builds a world full of movies like Deadpool, which costs a lot but has no profound. How much Shu Qi is paid is really not the main importance, but the story(if you are patient enough to understand the original storyline) and all the hidden beauty is where we should keep an eye on.

    • @jtuck35
      @jtuck35 8 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      +riffgroove If you're looking for a martial arts action film, then yes. It always amazes me how many people don't take the time to work out what the film they're watching is actually going to be like, and then bitch about it afterwards. Just read a single fucking review beforehand. The same thing happened with Monsters, which was a bloody amazing film but caught a load of criticism off idiots who saw the title and assumed they were going to see an alien sci-fi blockbuster.

    • @riffgroove
      @riffgroove 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      jtuck35 Uh... I did read the reviews. Numerous ones.
      "Best Director at Cannes." "Most beautifully shot film of the year."
      I was fully prepared that there were only 3 fight scenes that were each over in about 8 seconds.
      I was expecting an Art film. What I was *not* expecting was endless shots of people staring off into space with no dialogue or even a musical score to speak of.
      I repeat. Boring AF.
      I should have heeded my instincts to walk out after the first hour, but I was hoping it would eventually, you know, get "good."
      This movie is *not* deserving of it's lavish praise, and from looking at the other posts on this page, I'm not the only one who thinks so.

      The opinions of some don't overule the opinions of others. I, and countless others, believe this movie deserves all the praise its recieved. I loved the catatonic pace, I loved the drawn out expressions, I loved the subtle fight sequences. Its as if the silent, massive wilderness weighs down in the minds of the characters, they move and speak embodied by nature. Slow, subtle, contemplative. I felt transported, not sorry you didn't. It deserves praise, and I'm glad people still make movies that are challenging and divisive.

      Likely someone from west or central Asia. During this era (Tang Dynasty), China was the most open and receptive to foreigners and foreign cultures it had ever been, and arguably has never been since (maybe in the last century). It was common for people who didn't look traditionally East Asian to be around in the big cities and ports and along the trading routes, such as the Sassanid Persians, Turkic tribes e.g. Uyghur, Sogdians, Tocharians, Indians, Khmer, etc. In fact the openness of China at that time was to the extent that many foreigners became government officials in those times. One famous example would be An Lu Shan, who was Sogdian and Turkic, became one of the closest advisers and generals to one of the Emperors of the time, but turned out rebelling and crowning himself the Emperor of China for a short time. Another crazy example of China's openness is the relationship between the royalties of China and the Sassanid Persian empire. In fact, when the Sassanids fell from the muslim conquests, the Sassanid emperor actually permanently moved his court (what was left of it) and family to live in China's capital. Crazy to think that there would be tonnes of people in China who are actually Persian royalty!
      It's odd to think about caucasian looking peoples in China because of the homogeneity of modern day China... But even today there is a sizeable portion of China who are ethnic minorities, although they are largely indistinguishable because of millenia of racial mixing. In conclusion, various races and ethnic groups have always been in China, but was esp. prevalent in the setting of the film, the Tang dynasty; keep in mind that this was over a millenium ago so these many so many of the distinctive looking peoples who made up the Chinese empire and immigrated to the empire over time have assimilated and become virtually indistinguishable in modern day China.

      ***** i dont have anything against PS if it looks natural and beautiful......also im not that much familiar with her but isnt she from Taiwan,what Korean? i belive she was i one movie with Jackie Chan and Transporter.There she was very young and she looks exactly the same like today but shes older now

    • @dlysele
      @dlysele 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anahi M No, "Korean plastic surgery" means it is done in Korea. Indeed she is Taiwanese, but most Asians go to South Korea to have it done because Korean plastic surgery techniques are guaranteed good results.
      And ya, I don't have much against plastic surgery as well but I always thought doing it for the sake of a professional career rather than personal improvements is wasteful... That's just me.

    • @siskomerda
      @siskomerda 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** yea i got that but i thought why the hell she would go to Korea for PS,Whole Asia is famous for it....i dont know who has better but when you say it like that i think i bellive in it!

    • @dlysele
      @dlysele 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anahi M South Korea > Thailand > China (Shenzhen)
      That's the general belief of Asians on plastic surgery standards.
