    Some people mentioned it hurts the dew claw so its recommended you put a sock before the shoe.

      And keeping the toenails trimmed short is also very important. I always recommend you break a dog into boots if they have a dewclaw for a little while. Stick to short stuff so they can develop a bit of a callous.

    Awesome boots. Kai has his new socks coming. The summit track boots he has are from 2019 and Kai has worn on almost all walks due to AZ hot pavement and airline trips, almost 20 trips now, and He can travel through airports so much easier with his boots on. Got a new pair of Grip boots coming for him to break in for hiking . We can’t wait ! And Alaska airlines here comes Kai again! Your favorite Cabin Guest!

    I really wanted to order a pair
    For my service dog since I literally go everywhere with her in public unfortunately I couldn’t afford the boots so I ended up getting her some more cheaper ones on Amazon and I haven’t used them yet but I’m really excited to see how the quality is on them and by the way great video

    Hello Craig, We live in West Texas where goat heads and stickers and other things get into our own shoes, clothes, etc. They're very painful and hard to get out of everything. I'm wondering if we should get the Polar Trex -- even for summer -- as added protection from getting the stickers and goat heads down inside the boots. We don't want to unintentionally cause even more pain than the way over 100 degrees already dishes out. What is your opinion?????

    Hi Craig, do you think these boots would work well for an ambitious whippet with hind foot avulsion? He hit a broken pvc cleanout pipe sticking up in our neighbor’s yard while running causing some nerve damage on outside of hind foot...which causes his two outside toes to splay out & his hind foot to flatten out slightly. We’re afraid he’s going to catch toes on something when we walk him. We didn’t know it, but the neighbor had hit the pipe with his mower earlier & left it cracked open that day. The vet said his foot will take months to heal if at all...so we’re on the marathon patience thing with our dog & he’s limited to a 5 min walk daily. It seems like the sock would give his foot support from compression & hind boot would help protect his foot while he heals. Thought I’d ask since you’re a dog vet & recommend these products by experience. Thinking about 1 for each hind foot to balance his gait. Suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks.

      I think its worth a try! The sock would help give a good comfortable fit for sure. Because a whippet foot is so narrow you'll want the sock to help get a proper fit. Their paws are so narrow that the boot (any boot) may be more likely to slip out of the boot, but for basic walks (not explosive trail running), I think you'll be fine. Be sure to go in to a store to fit them first as you will want the smallest possible. Best of luck, that's a bummer of an injury!

    Some reviews say the the polar tree falls off quickly. What is your experience?

    • @kevinvandeventer8690
      @kevinvandeventer8690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was a older version that had problem these are version 2 and are completely different.

    • @thepawdlife5633
      @thepawdlife5633  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These newly designed polar trexs are fantastic. The way they’ve incorporated a gator really helps keep the upper portion of the boot snug. But the key is getting a properly sized boot and making sure that the stay strap is in place correctly. Almost every time I work with someone who has a boot that has fallen off because they have not applied to stay strap correctly or the boot they have is a little bit too big. So make sure you take time to really get the measurements right. And keep in mind that sometimes a dog has different sized front feet so you may need to buy a smaller pair for the rear feet. And finally if your dog has narrow paws like a whippet or a greyhound or a small Chihuahua no boots will ever stay on that foot very well. You need the diameter of the paw to be bigger than the diameter of the wrist or the stay strap won’t have anything to hold against. Good luck have fun!

    Hi, I am wanting to get my Dexy some boots after he was stung by a bee on his paw in the park and went into anaphylaxis shock. Would you say these have good protection with their soles to prevent this from occurring again? I just want him to be safe to enjoy walks again. Thanks!

    Is it true to size or do I need to buy a little bigger?

    • @thepawdlife5633
      @thepawdlife5633  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have found them to be very true to size, but using the sizing chart is key! Most people try to guess and get it wrong.
      You can download and print the sizing chart at Ruffwear and do it at home. Its easy!

      @thepawdlife5633  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our experience has been that if the boot fit is right, there will be enough room for a sock. Just use the fit chart to make sure you have the appropriate size! cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1577/4333/files/Ruffwear-Paw-Measurement-Chart.pdf?16954683177567004820
