    Agassi is well-renowned for his very aggressive returning. It wasn't the era, it was his playstyle.

    This loss crushed Agassi - he was red hot that year, beating Sampras in the finals of the Aus Open, Miami and Canada. Pete won Indian Wells final... but this loss could be seen as a precursor to Agassi slipping out the top 100 by mid-1997

    lol, Agassi looks like he belongs in the Pirates of the Carribean movies.

    Agassi is hitting Sampras serve on the baseline. Now they stand like metres behind it.

    gotta hand it to tennis players. having to talk and stand there while the other guy gets handed the trophy. this match back then was huge. both had won a slam that year. playing for year end no.1 ranking. and Agassi had won all the hard court tournaments leading up to this one. pete always won the biggest points most of the time in their rivalry

    Does anybody else think Pete Sampras reminds them of the bad guy from Titanic? xD

    We just can't tell, because they would probably play a different game since they would be in a different era with different rackets, etc.

    Agassi took 3 years to recover psychologically from this loss. Always preferred Sampras over Agassi.

    haha the smell of money and the smirky smile on sampras, he reminds of the joker.

    Wish I could be there to catch that racket!!! Modern players never throw them to the crowd nowadays, only sweaty bands... :P

      Watch Soderling vs Nadal at the French Open 2009. Robin, whipped his racquet into the crowd after he won.

      +Alex Tomlinson not saying he's bad..... Pete was one of the best athletes of his time and no one could serve with his accuracy and come to the net that quick.but after a while, his serve and volley tricks didn't appeal much and his game became mechanical

    • @animanga9597
      @animanga9597 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      and yet he still beat all the top players at that time in the world, went out on top at the us open with a so called mechanical game. pete was the closest to a perfect tennis player as well ever get.

    The style of the game has changed: Yes. Rackets are much better: No. "The balls fly in a more reliable trajectory": No.

      Kurt Gembolis In what tournament? Really?

    • @chrisclark5304
      @chrisclark5304 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marko R. Milutinović no, that's not true at all. If you lose min the first round today you'll get about $10,000

    • @williamcombis4836
      @williamcombis4836 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually it is roughly $35,000USD if you lose in the opening round of a slam plus an additional $10,000 if you entered through qualifying. Winning a slam gets you about 3.5million.

    becker would not win one. even in the nineties he managed to win only the australian open, the least important one. but he would be in the top 8 today, i think

  • @michaelpowell2475
    @michaelpowell2475 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    sampras in this generation would in total win no more than 7 - 8 slams
    agassi would win 3 -4 slams in total
    becker 2 - 3 slams in total
