No. The price of the set if it had seven blu Ray discs would be astronomical and a pain having to change the discs every two episodes. I like the art cards as they are.

I honestly think VI Z liked to mickey moyse everything but what's hilarious is Disney treats their own properties better than viz. does for Sailor Moon But it's kind of like the lesser of two evils we didn't have Sailor Moon in the market for lease 11 years I'm just happy Sailor Moon is comfortably back in our pop culture alive breathing and well I have a feeling Sailor Moon S is going to be a great release
I agree with you,, Aije. It doesn't really feel like these are worth the $74. I kind of wish they would offer more things like they did with the old Naruto Boxset releases. They would put a small vinyl figure with the DVD, so maybe Viz could have paid more attention and possibly given out a much more notable gift instead of the suction thing and the art cards. I won't complain about the art cards, but if I'm going to spend an arm and a leg on a set for 14 episodes, I better be receiving more items for the price I paid. I guess we don't have too much to complain about since Japan's release was the *MUSIC* box, a bracelet, charm, and two episodes on a disc along with that booklet. Viz step up your game.
If they included 7 thin packs with all that artwork and 2 episodes per disc, it would've bumped the price from $67 to $120 for only 14 episodes lol
Australia got such a beautiful cover for sailor crystals bluray + DVD instead of blah bluray cover inside we get a designed cover which looks soo beautiful
So am I just daft or did the VIZ comparison side look better? The VIZ side looked brighter and richer in color to me... Is that the over-saturation people talk about? I don't know. I guess I'm not tech savvy enough to understand these things...
The main problem is that the oversaturation took out a lot of the finer details and grain, and the viz version has ghosting that the italian masters don't have.
+Taryn M The noise reduction/grain wiping is what erased some of the fine detail. The colors on the Viz set were matched to the official color key/guide that accompanied the masters and look great on a well calibrated TV.
The only real difference I noticed was the saturation difference, but honestly I don't see the issue. People act like they got video quality on par with a VHS tape that has been played over 500 times. It isn't perfect, but most people buying the sets don't even notice it since you have to actively search for the ghosting (I never noticed it until it was pointed out), and the saturation isn't truly noticeable until being compared to other releases. Alittle ghosting and saturation beats sitting on ebay bidding on 300 dollar ADV DVDs in an ugly box with audio that sounds like it is underwater, so as of right now I am content with their work haha.
+200PoVstrechnoy Actually, the madman sets are about the same as the blurays, but use the better Italian masters. I have both sets and the madman set just look better overall.
I have both the Viz and Madman discs and the Viz looks better on my tv. ::shrug::
thats great unboxing Sailor Tortilla i grew up with sailor moon from the 90's i had season 1 part 1 ever since i got it in January and when i first popped the first disc i feel i was watching tv from japan and revisiting memory lane along with 90's nickelodeon and while watching Pokémon

Madman is using the European Master for their awesome dvd release, which is the Italian Master (Dynit DVD Release) - the best dvd release from Sailor Moon ever. But I love Madman for releasing Sailor Moon in Japanese with english subs and with the European Master.
+Serenity Usagi Yup, it looks like all the Kaze releases in Europe are using that master as well.
Sailor Aije Tortilla no Kaze used the german release (just with german dub) and the Japanese remastered release (japanese with german subs)

They also got a charm bracelet. The first volume came with a nice metal golden bracelet with the Crescent wand and then each volume came with their transformation wands... I wish I had gotten the Japanese versions too. I got my collectors copy at Best Buy for about $60.
Yeay! Finally another Sailor Moon review!
I watch the old late 90s/early 2000s dub episodes of the old series mostly, although I love looking in at season 3 episodes from Viz media because Uranus/Neptune's relationship is all uncensored (although most of us knew the first time and I feel like they never hid them that much), and what I see in the Viz release is that all the colors look saturated.
It's ok either way for me, I just like to see the colors how they originally were.

I'm personally not a fan of most of the Japanese covers and would rather have had something else entirely but it is what it is, the use of these were not too surprising since Kaze Germany was the first outside Japan to release the show on disc back in April and they're using the exact same cover, disc & DVD menu art as the Japanese.
As for the 7 cases idea, I disagree but only because, in addition to it not being sold in most retail stores (see Wal-Mart & maybe Best Buy, they wouldn't sell something that big), they would have raised the price to over $100 each and we can say what we want about this fandom but I don't think most people would have spent that much on a show that's not as good as the 90s anime (especially this particular arc which sucked all the dicks in the end). Heck, there were already complaints over the current price because it has less episodes than the 90s sets which is understandable to a point, especially since Kaze France had the gall to release Seasons 1 & 2 in a complete set last month.

Ah Madman, yeah, they did get the Italian masters and they do look better but for whatever reason, they have stopped including the on-disc extras from the Viz sets which is strange because Madman's first set includes the first of the solo voice actor interviews with Stephanie Sheh (Usagi) & Robbie Daymond (Mamoru) but none of the R sets include the others which had Cristina Vee (Rei), Amanda Miller (Makoto), Cherami Leigh (Minako) & Veronica Taylor (Setsuna) which is a bit of a shame because those were actually very nice to watch. Also there are some reports of issues with Madman's R sets which includes the previews being switched to the order both ADV & Viz had (after the opening) and also episode 89 had the opening song playing twice with the main video shown before the 4-in-1 that was made for that episode so I wonder what happened there?
Since that letter mentioned a remastered Japanese broadcast, it wasn't a proper remaster either (only slightly looked better) and apparently Toei edited out the second R eyecatch with only the Chibi one being shown on TV which was weird.

Thank you so much for the Australian dvd comparisons. I was considering buying from Australia after reading about this. I absolutely refuse to support the Viz releases due to the horrid video quality and all the lies Viz told to cover their a**. My Sailor moon DVDs from Japan look so much nicer! However, the only reason I would buy the Australian dvds would be for great quality and subtitles. No matter how hard I try I can not get into Viz's dub ; (...I read online that it was the HQ Italian masters that Australia used.
+CanvasofElohim4 Yes it does look like the information about it being Italian is correct. I'm not a big fan of the Viz dub personally but it's great to have a beautiful set with English subtitles. I highly recommend this version over the American version.
When I started buying the Viz sets, it had been a while after season 1 was released, and everyone was saying how much better the German/Japanese/Madman DVD version was. of course, I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to collecting anime, so I was worried I was buying a vastly inferior version, but aside from a small amount of ghosting in the Viz sets, there doesn't seem to be a huge difference. And actually, maybe it's just me, but the Viz sets seem to have richer color going by the comparisons you showed.
I don't mind the grain. I mean, the show was animated a long time ago, and there was that big debate on the Toei masters given to Viz being crappy and all that (and I've heard the original film was destroyed too). For a show made so long ago, I personally find the Viz releases acceptable; the resolution fits nicely on my HDTV, the colors pop, and the audio is way better than the ADV releases.

+Danielle Crumplin I'm also surprised they haven't said anything yet. Considering that in Italy the first rerelease was in 2011 it's been wayyyy too long for the UK.

Question in your video it looks like the Australian release looks worse than the Viz release. How is it better? And can you check with Madman's website I thought they released a Blu-Ray of the first seasons.
They released Aus Blu-ray’s this year, based on the JP Blu-ray’s. This video was made before that if that makes sense.
I miss the thin Pak chipboard box design that ADV used to do with their complete 'cheap' sets. The Crystal set would have looked way better like you suggested
+supersolarsun I think you're referring to the Pioneer S and SS sets which I agree were beyond beautiful.
+Sailor Aije Tortilla (Aije) I was meaning the adv thin Pak sets (not ADVs original SM sets though) but geneons S and SuperS are the same as how ADV did their thin Pak so yeah I could have used those as an example. I don't know why I didn't think of those.

phew about time lets see if Australian version uh madman entertainment dub it properly. im thinking it might be at 50 or 51 frame rate per second in the pal version.
we already know we got the ntsc version in 60 or 61 frame rate per second we also got 60 hertz too.
if you wanna compare it to the blu ray to the dvd version it will be done on the pc version. that has dvd rom or rewriteable drive or blu ray rom or rewriteable drive unfortunattly it was has to be done on some pc windows machines besides Packard bell. I chose dell instead of Packard hell. *anime rimshots sfx*

It's a great set, but of course we moonies have to complain about everything xD I was a little disappointed because of how expensive it was. People can't afford a $74 retail price blu-ray set w/14 episodes. Like you, I did get this off rightstuf, and got the tiny sun catcher - which I wish was a little bigger.

+Puja723 honestly, this price is prohibitive to moonies who don't have savings for SM collectibles. I have to horde money just for prospective video media releases ahead of time so that I can pay upon preorder. I'm much happier paying for figures than blurays.

+Michelle P you're right, I love Escaflowne! So the Kickstarter campaign for that has ended and if you didn't donate as part of the fundraiser (I didn't) you will have to wait for the new sets to pop up online or in stores in October.

I'm 12, grumpy, and watched every single episode of sm 90's dub and sub of viz and the terrible World of DiC dub. And I have read all of the mangas and truly was disappointed in the Dark kingdom Arc and The Black Moon Arc for sure. I started My moonie lifestyle( IT'S NOT A PHASE MOM ITS A LIFESTYLE) 1 year ago and accomplished that much YAY!

While I can understand that you have your own preference, I don't see how you... don't see how big the difference is. Colors are slightly over saturated and lines have a weird sharpening filter on Viz master. It just looks unnatural for a show initially broadcast in the 90's I feel.
Didn't say I didn't see a difference, I just didn't see a difference in quality.
Even though I grew up with the classic, I honestly just prefer viz's set just because of how more...idk..crisp the color looks even if the colors are more saturated. Now, if Viz wouldn't have done it, Id buy either.
