I believe that Xavi is really underrated, he should be at least in the debate for the ten best PLAYERS OF HISTORY, you may think that I exaggerate, but he is undoubtedly the best midfielder I had ever seen, he was an absolutely key player for two of the best teams in football history (Barcelona and Spanish national team), is one of the players that have won the most trophies ever, has incredible stats for a midfielder and if it wasn't for Messi and Ronaldo he would have won several balons D Ore.

His best ability is his positioning and his awareness for his team mate's position, he used to look over his shoulder for opponents and teammates very very frequently he got the nickname as chameleon eyes, was called witch and crow cause he turned his neck and eyes too much. But la pausa is something that can not be taught, to perform this player has to be exceptionally good ball control, passing and ability, consistency and confidence to hold on to the ball and make that pass. No one will come close to him, none.

The La Pausa is possible if you have a mobile team, not players that refuse to make a run.

@@SilvaAcademyFootball Not really. You should never try to play just like someone else.
Yes you can learn a skill or two, but in the end you are different persons with different physical and mental abilities. Xavi for example is someone that realised he could rarely run faster than opponents, so he developed the technical and tactical side mode. So if you are a fast person you should use that to outrun opponents! Another example is that it wouldn't be appropriate for Zlatan to try to play like Maradona, because their bodies are so different and they even grew up in totally different eras and environments.
This is a mistake that many teenagers do.

@@aramskaef6955 Does height affect the player's ability to dribble? I mean,of course player who's short have more chance of controlling the ball and move past another player without falling quite easily.Messi,Maradonna and Pele are some of the example. But I did see some tall players who can dribble very well. For example,Hatem de Arfa and Dani Olmo.I mean, yeah,Hatem is 180cm and Olmo is 179cm which they are not too tall or too short. For Alexis Sanchez,he's short but he's fast. But he has one problem. He's not confident. So I think for players to become a good dribbler they need to have these important aspects, confident, speed and technique.I guess Messi has all of that aside from being short as one of his advantage. It's just my opinion though.
One more question, base from your comments,is that one of the reason why Xavi and Iniesta couldn't be as good as Messi?Because they couldn't run fast enough?Just asking.

Improving la pausa is best done by understanding how to "carry" the ball instead of "dribble". In other words, more subtle touches and side to side movements. It is taught in Spanish culture and part of my development growing up. There aren't words for it in English though.

The most important thing is to already know what you want to do with the ball before you get it.
Then, try to anticipate what your teammates are going to do and/or where the space is going to be given the fact that X player will move towards Y position.
One thing that really helps maintain defenders away, is faking that you're gonna dribble with the ball.
If you've got friends to play with, practice rombos and lure the players in the middle towards you to anticipate where the space is going to be. If you become really good at this, then the pause is going to come to you naturally while playing.
I'm southamerican, and the pause, for us, is quite literally style of playing: jugar pausado.
      Good luck and have fun!

Honestly "la pausa" is not some skill only world class players can use. It is also very dependent on the the teammates. It doesn't matter how good you in so called "la pausa" if your teammates are not looking for free space or not making some smart moving on the pitch.
Xavi is brilliant, one of the best players of all times, but let's not figure out some "skills" which are not skills to put his figure on the pedestal.
He was just confidently waiting long enough to make a good pass, this is a outcome of having good pitch vision, that's it.

when I do try to execute La pausa in my street football
my teammates were shouting at me since they were free,,,,but not ready to offer an off the ball run
So a small tip from me:-NEVER ATTEMPT LA PAUSA TILL YOU HAVE ATLEAST ONE SUPPORTING AND UNDERSTANDING TEAM MATE

    • @ferny549

They don't understand what your trying to do I told some of my friends/teammates that I'll hold the ball for a longer period of time so they can create different options rather than rushing the play. While 'La pausa' is a skill you preform it's also a skill your team mates need to understand so when you do preform it they can support. If that makes sense.
Also my team mates do tell to pass it which is a good thing sometimes because you won't always know where they are and listening when they pass and where it comes from is a sign than there either open for a pass, or making a run, or for some sort of build up play.

The best steal from others and add it to their game with their own twist. Xavi was very good at delaying and waiting for passing lanes to open up. Most usually play the very first pass they see, instead of the most dangerous pass.

Cool doc.... I have a brother who can play football but doesn't have the enabling environment and empowerment here in Nigeria Africa... Can you guys do a documentary of the grassroot talented footballers in Africa who don't have facilities and the empowerment and training facilities and investments like it is over seas... Like what can they do to achieve their dreams and be able to have a chance to bless the world with thier generational Talent... I could send videos of my brother on field, in games and training in the ghetto and local fields here, and brief bio and his thoughts and hopes on this topic... for you to use as a case study and possibly more... Thanks I already subscribed to your channel
