@@seanrc8642 exactly I agree with you here but another underrated fight is Tyson vs ruddock Man some huge bombs thrown in that fight You could literally hear the sound of those punches sitting several rows back
Even though Holyfield lost this fight he gained me as a fan. I was already a fan, but really bought into him after this. That 10th round was epic. I remember thinking: "I knew he had it in him! I knew it!" I believe Holyfield gained a lot of fans through this fight who became part of his loyal fan base and "Team Holyfield". After this fight - and subsequent fights - he ended up being my favorite fighter of the 90's.
Me too. The fact he fought the way he did against a guy at his peak who was 30 odd pounds heavier than him amazed me. He had already been in countless savage wars already. He could have retired after this fight. It must have taken something out of him. When he came back heavier I thought he lost a bit of speed and rhythm. I always get annoyed about the headbutt shit. He does what boxers have done for a hundred years. Get your head down and on to your opponents chest or shoulder. Especially if your fighting guys bigger than you.
@@georgegreig8054 The headbutt stuff was BS. I remember Tyson deliberately ran into his head to try to get out of the first fight. Tyson obsessed over it and used it as excuse to bite Holyfield’s ear the second fight. Lewis also complained about it, but he was a dirty fighter - constantly leaning on Holyfield, endlessly holding, rabbit punching, etc. Also, agree that Holyfield wasn’t quit as quick after this fight and didn’t have quit the same rythm. I noticed that difference in his second fight against Stewart. The first fight he was like a machine gun with those combos. The second fight against he didn’t really break down Stewart the way he did the first fight. He was a real boxer-puncher up to the Bowe fight. His style after this wasn’t as speed based and had a little less reliance on movement. He was still quick, but he didn’t have as much of that rapid-fire quickness of his first HW reign.
@@mikem591 I never heard a murmur about head butts until the Tyson fight. And I remember the incident your talking about. When you see the slow-motion replay I always laugh. Tyson smashes his head into Holyfield and makes a pained face and bleats to the referee while Holyfields expression doesn't change. He reacted as if he had been hit with a feather rather than a 220 pound man deliberately full force head butting him.
Hi and thank you for breaking down this epic slugfest. I would also be very thankful if you made a breakdown of Ike Ibeabuchi. In my opinion, he had it all, from what I've seen he could always throw punches from every angle, and he was very energetic, strong and had the endurance aswell(he and David Tua once held the record for most punches thrown in a heavyweight fight, which was around 1730. To my amazement he kept brawling the entire fight without slowing down, similar to this Bowe vs Holyfield fight). Ike vs Holyfield and Tyson would have been dream fights. Wow!! BRILLIANT analysis!!! Unbeatable synchronicity of footage, complete with delays, to marry perfectly with the point being highlighted.
As a non-boxer, I have learned so much (in theory) from this analysis! Thank you!
SUBSCRIBED.
I've been arguing for years that this was the greatest heavyweight championship fight of all time. Usually I get mocked, but it had more action than the Thrilla in Manilla and more power punching than Louis-Conn I... I stick by my belief
I agree. Greatest heavyweight fight I ever saw. Best combination of skill And heavy artillery.
I agree 100%
@@seanrc8642 No Ibeabuchi vs Tua surpassed this fight
@@asheru9254 That was a great fight, too. More punches thrown in Ike/Tua as I recall, but not nearly the skill level.
@@seanrc8642 exactly I agree with you here but another underrated fight is Tyson vs ruddock
Man some huge bombs thrown in that fight
You could literally hear the sound of those punches sitting several rows back
These two are great... Bowe was skillful beast no one wanted that smoke, distance fighting, clinch fighting that big guy could do it all easy.
One of the best trilogy of fights since Ali and Frazier.
Same
@@mikem591 And Lewis latched onto the headbutt nonsense hoping to gain an advantage with the referee probably.
It is very disappointing to know how Ike's career was cut short.
P.S. You can breakdown his fight with Tua additionally on another video aswell.
An amazing breakdown as usual MMA. Since you mentioned that this could've been the fight of the decade, could you do a breakdown on the first Chavez and Taylor fight?
That's a definite possibility ;)
@@TheModernMartialArtist I watched ur Muhammad Ali videos so much that I thought it was gonna be 15 rounds 😅...
My heart broke when fight ended at 12 rounds 😅....
Man Ali is for sure The Greatest of All times
@@TheModernMartialArtist
Thank you good sir. You deserve all the success you have on TH-cam.
@@TheModernMartialArtist Hi could you please breakdown Ike Ibeabuchi ?
Great video man. Your commentary very much adds to the excitement of the video. I like this format, keep em coming!
For some reason "he addressed each punch separately" impresses me so much. I'm not a fighter, but I know you have to be so incredibly devoted to the craft to have the ability to comprehend every little thing that's happening and counter them accordingly. Wild to me
This fight of the decade is a perfect fight
Best boxing analyst on any platform. It gives me so much pleasure watching your videos.
This was the best description of a fight I’ve ever seen. Great job.
Was 21 when I watched this in the early hours. Still marvelling at 50 how Bowe’s uppercut did not decapitate Holyfield. Mans a warrior. Excellent analysis as always 👌
You're commentary analysis is in a league of its own 👊🏻
What an amazing video. Thank you. The interview at the end was a nice surprise... nothing better than asking the man himself : )
These breakdowns remind me of how much boxing wars & history I’ve forgotten.
Dude I love your channel. As a casual boxing fan you’ve opened a whole new world to me in regards to defensive techniques. It’s a Sweet science alright…
Patiently waiting for part 2
your break down really makes me want to study bo, he’s technical! I love it! Both men performed like heroes!
I always love watching your videos. you break it down in such detail. I love for you to break down the Bernard Hopkins vs Oscar de la Hoya fight…… but keep doing yo thang with these videos 💯
I never had any interest in boxing or fights until I found this channel and actually learned something about boxing. You break it down like no one else.
I grew up watching the stuff. I'm a Holyfield guy but have so much respect for both these Champions have their craftsmanship in the trilogy. It chokes you up period as a kid I watched Ali and Fraser and foreman and Kenny Norton and all those guys. We hadn't seen that kind of heart since the seventies as well as skill. Excellent video
I love your programs David !
Especially your breakdown of the fights ! You're the Best !!
It’s glad to see him in a better way in that interview man and you could tell he really enjoyed it❤️
Love these fight analyses, they're so epic!
Totally worth the wait. Thank you for the great break down.
A great fight put on by two boxers who appreciate good sportsmanship and one on one competition. A high point in heavyweight boxing history. Bowe or Holyfield would be dominate fighters of this current era, no doubt.
"Boxing wars of the 90s featuring Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, and other great fighters," he says at the shot of the Parachute Man.
Kidding aside though, thanks for another excellent breakdown!
I love that on top of you're already amazing break downs you got that interview with Bowe!
My fucking favorite phrase “ from the modern Martial Art this has been David Christian, wishing you a happy training “ this kid is fucking Amazing
So happy you're breaking down this trilogy.
That was amazing how u got Riddick for an interview, superb analysis
Congrats on the interview, that's rad. Excellent breakdown, as always.
Thanks for the interview. It really gave perspective on the final round. Great video.
i love your big fight run throughs really helps see the story of the fight
Your breakdowns give me a whole next level understanding of how skilled these fighters really are. I've been watching boxing for 3 decades and you take me to school with every video you make. Thank you sir 👍
I watched the Bowe/Holyfield fights mulitple times, alsmost up there with Ali/Frazier i think. awesome episode! btw could you cover David Tua? he seems kind of overlooked IMO.
That was awesome. Your commentary makes it even more exciting. Thank you.
Wow amazing breakdown. I can’t wait for the next two in this series of fights. Great work
Outstanding breakdown! And an awesome surprise towards the end, too! 🤘🏼👍🏼
the zoom in on the referee was gold
Enjoyed this more than watching the actual fight. Great study of this fight.
I am so surprised this video does not have much more likes. Fantastic as the fight itself
There, I subscribed. So don’t hold those next Bowe vs Holyfield videos out on us!
You should breakdown the barrera vs morales fight. One of the best boxing fights of all time.
I've just found your channel but man! I'm enjoying it. In this one, you gave me a greater appreciation of Bowe.
