      Evander was a Cruiserweight that fought at heavyweight and was usually always th smaller man. Bowe was a Superheavyweight that outweighed him by 40 lbs. Their is no question that The Real Deal was a warrior as evidenced in this fight. That's why Evander had a great career and Bowe became a crossing guard.

      raider101416 Okay Holy was brave but he was much more muscular and athletic than Bowe.
      It wasn't so big thing.
      Evander wasn't healthy but it's another question.

      navpreet singh no he didn't have heart problems, he had caught hepatitis shortly before the fight. That's why his energy level went down temporally all the time. After he knocked down Bowe in round 6 his energy level dropped drastically moments later and he couldn't move his arms anymore to finish Bowe off.

      @@bobber0623 Both of them didn’t wanna fight each other they even said it before Tyson went to prison. They’re close friends. Tyson actually
      Only ducked foreman in his career. He paid Lewis to step aside to let him fight holyfield with both wba and wbc belts so they can make their title fight bigger and for the undisputed title which would’ve made an easy 40 mill purse for Lennox. Instead of the small 10-15 mill he would’ve got for fighting Tyson straight away.

    The end came out of the blue at the half-way mark, with Holyfiield attacking. He had decked Riddick earlier, but Holyfield went down during a punching exchange in which he appeared to be getting the better of Bowe. The punch that decked him was obscured by Bowe's back, but a shot from a better angle showed it to be a hard right swing. Holyfield collapsed, beat the count, but was virtually defenceless, and the referee stopped the fight.

      Yeah this started during the Michael Moorer fight. Teddy Atlas kept talking about how something was wrong with him. This fight was even worse. I was at both fights as a young holyfield fan ad I was heart broken. I thought this had to be the end of his career. When he was going into the tyson fight, the odds opened at like 20-1 for Tyson. People thought Holyfield was going to die because of the health issues. When he won, it was insane. I was ten years old, and I remember he had a cut and Flip Homansky was looking at it. My dad and I were huge holyfield fans and we couldn't get over what was happening. Nervous that Flip would want to stop the fight, 10 year old me said "Get the fuck out of there flip!" right in front of my dad... I looked at him and said "sorry" and he was so into it he just said "it's ok don't worry about it."

    Holyfield actually suffered a heart attack DURING THE FIGHT! He also had a type of hepatitis. And he managed to last 9 rounds while INSIDE FIGHTING, facing one of the strongest boxers of the 90s, knock him down, and get up at the count of 9. For me, this bout was perhaps the most courageous one ever, because he could've died any second, he knew SOMETHING was wrong, and he fought a great fight while pushing himself beyond his limits. Your thoughts?

    • @shakedaddy1
      @shakedaddy1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He didn't suffer a heart attack in any fight, but in the 1st Moorer fight they thought his left ventricle closed and thus the doc said that he fought the fight, "essentially at cardiac arrest". What actually physically happened to Holy in the Moorer fight has been debated by many people, and you can read up on all the medical theories, but there is no doubt SOMETHING was wrong with him in that fight and this fight too b/c in every other fight Holy could go to war for 12, even 15 rds and not slow down. After reading his book and watching the fight, the Hepatitis thing sounds like it's 100% legit, and if he had been healthy, I think he destroys Bowe in this fight. But, it all worked out in the end....

    Holyfield juiced heavily again after losing to Bowe the first time (he let it slip in the post-fight interview that he lost because he was "smaller"), and started developing heart problems from being on them for almost 5 years at this point. It crippled his stamina severely, which can be seen in the first Moorer loss and 2nd Bowe defeat. PEDs definitely increased Evan Field's power, durability and stamina, which he started at 25 in 1988 to go up to heavyweight.

I don't blame you for putting Holyfield ahead of Bowe; he did still have a career after the three wars they had, when Bowe was pretty much finished after that. Realism isn't the question. The question is, is the fight worth it TO HIM? If the answer is no, it doesn't happen. Lewis made good money and carried cards down the road. He didn't have a big fan base, but everyone in boxing knew who he was and there was a lot of interest in this fight had it been in Vegas.

    Bowe was already stripped by this time of the title he won from Holyfield for refusing to fight Lewis. the McCall rematch took too long to happen - but it did happen. But at the end of the day, Bowe was the first one who backed out. Again, I suspect money was an issue. But the fact is Bowe was stripped by the WBC for refusing to fight him. Rock Newmans initial contract offers were ridiculous (I don't blame Bowe - that's why you have managers).

      He was literally dead on his feet early in this fight due to poor health and he still almost ko'd bowe. In fairness Bowe didn't look great. Neither fighter ever looked the same after their first two fights. Even in the Tyson fight, Holyfield looked good, but it was not his best. The older EH had far more bounce in his feet and threw more shots. It's a testament to his will that he became champion again after the Moorer and this performance. People forget that a lot of individuals were scared for Holyfield's life against Tyson because he was looking soooo bad. One of the strongest willed fighters ever to live. I'll never forget when he beat Mike the first time. It was one of the most impressive wins ever in boxing.

    • @thpxs0554
      @thpxs0554 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Ali and Frazer also had incredible willpower. Round 15 of the Thriller in Manila, Ali said it was the closest he’d ever been to death. It was Frazers corner who stopped the fight, Joe would’ve gone out for R15. Incredible athletes. I’ve done a bit of boxing, I was terrible at it,,people don’t have a clue what it feels like to take a right hook on the side of the head ,above the ear, your brain shorts out, your eyes glitch, your legs don’t respond, then you catch a left straight in the face ..... how these men could fight like that and not die is incredible. One right hook from a heavyweight could kill an ordinary man. These are supermen .

    • @ccali327
      @ccali327 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@thpxs0554 Yeah same. People don't understand what they leave behind. Ali, Holyfield, Frazier, and Bowe left parts of themselves in the ring they can literally never get back. I've met all of them, including Foreman, and George was the only one who didn't have extremely obvious signs of brain damage. I was on a plane with Joe, and he could barely walk on his own without stumbling. He had a young kid carrying everything for him because he simply couldn't. It really is the ultimate sacrifice.
