Very haunting gut wrenching song for those that understand the lyrics he is expressing. "Nights in white satin never reaching the end" is reference to the satin sheets she bought him just before she broke it off. "Letters I have written never meaning to send" With 20 versions sitting in the trash he never mails his letter to try and gain her back. Why? "Just what the truth is I can't say anymore" Did she ever really love him? "Gazing at people some hand in hand" seeing others in love only brings back the pain. "Just what I'm going through you can't understand" Unless you have had a broken heart you can't understand. I cry every time I hear this song. I wonder where she is how she is doing. Damn this song all to hell its so beautifully written yet so haunting.

This is my mother’s fav song by The Moody Blues. We’ve seen them live twice together. Ray Thomas was the flautist, and he died in 2018, at the age of 76. He was one of the founding members of The Moody Blues in the mid-1960’s. Earlier this year I was present for the death of my 90yo mother-in-law, who has been my other mother. My own mother will be 87 next month. She will be one who will most likely be alone when her day comes, because they are such different individuals. I’ve long wanted to sing this for my mum, as my eulogy for her, at her burial, because it represents her in so many ways. Don’t know if I could make it through it, and now that you’ve heard it, you can probably understand why I probably couldn’t do it. I appreciate this this is the song that introduced you to such a great band. 🖤🤎🧡🤎🖤
I have to echo the sentiments of so many of the other commenters. The entire Days of Future Passed album is a masterpiece, and something to be taken in its entirety, on a rainy day, alone, with good headphones, and maybe a nice glass of wine or tea. A modern requiem.

Drummer Graeme Edge just passed away a few days ago.
