I miss those days. My sister and brother was cheering for the Bulls. I loved the Orlando Majic because of A. Hardaway. Plus, the NBA seemed so exciting back then because of Michael Jordan. Now...I don't feel that excitement anymore.

I hope everyone remembers how young this magic team was, in no way in their prime. Its like if they were playing the 87 bulls. Penny started having injury problems before he hit his prime, and shaqs prime was clearly winning 3 straight finals mvps under phil jackson. The bulls never really played anyone good.

the way the bulls dismantled this really good team is crazy. orlando gave up at the end of this game and just knew no matter what they did they were not going to win. This team went to the finals the year before and had 2 of the top 10 players in the league on the same team and two of the best 3 point shooters ever on their team.
Young team V veterans...not a a magic fan but that team had so much potential no shame in losing to that bulls team, the best team of the modern era by some distance...they would maul any team playing today.., Hardaway in particular, he was an outstanding player never fulfilled his potentail

The Magic had injuries throughout the series that played a big factor in them getting swept. It's funny how when the Rockets swept them in the Finals people say "the Magic were young" but when the Bulls sweep them and they were missing key players it's seen as "impressive".

Nobody was going to beat the Bulls that year. The Bulls were just on another level that year and no team was going to stop them.
It's a rarity that MJ had a sub par GAME in the playoffs, much less a bad series. But Pip stepped up and got his shine like the legendary player he is!

Scottie played great during this game he was limited offensively during the playoffs in 96 because of a ankle injury that was operated on during the 96 off season but this gm he was dominant.
This was the series that made shaq run away to LA.
And Shaq became a champ in LA

But for a very big and heavy guy. Shaw is able to control his body and move quickly. Shaq was unique.

Golden State is a far more superior offensive team than this Orlando team...but a great team is still a great team. In the mid 90s, the Magic were definitely championship contenders, they won 60+ games that year. And for the Bulls to sweep them the way they did in '96 shows how great the Bulls team was.

I don't think they are far superior offensively. If they have an advantage it would be on defense. Even then, they'd have no answer for Shaq. If you can't rebound you can't run. Bad matchup for GSW.

The Magic supposedly had a huge matchup advantage w/Shaq in the low post, after the Bulls figured that out they were able to handle them. That was the only position the Bulls were somewhat vulnerable in and Rodman was usually the answer there on defense.

The 96 Orlando Magic and 01 Spurs had to be the most demoralized teams in NBA history. At least the Spurs got revenge in 03. The Bulls basically broke up the Shaq- Penny duo in Orlando. Penny shaking his head like, "we can't do anything against this team."
I'd say that the decline really started after game 1 of the 95 finals. The Magic fell apart before our eyes after that game.

I get why everyone always talks about numbers and offense, but this Bulls team might have been the best defensive team I've ever seen. When the best two players in the league are then paired up with one of the all time great rebounders and defensive players like Rodman (who was once their nemesis) they just had the ability to completely shut you down and they weren't selective about it. It didn't matter whom they played, if they were all healthy it didn't matter who your best players were, the game was basically over before it started. Those 90's Bulls teams could have been a force in any era and been dominant.
I use to love the NBA theme song everytime there was a game. So awesome in the 90s

What? NBA players these days are superbly skilled. on average much more so than in the 80s/90s. In particular tall players now play largely positionless. They need to handle the ball and shoot extremely well. Look at Anthony Davis or Antetokounmpo. Even shooters today are better ball handlers than their peers in the 80s/90s. Luc Longly or Bill Wennigton would not play much today. Compare them with the skill set of Marc or Pau Gasol.
omnivorous65 - they play in much easier conditions which give them so much more space and nobody is allowed to impede the forward progress of an offensive player. They couldn't play that way back in those days. Today, everything is a foul. And they have face up moves but no post moves because of the soft conditions of today. These guys here had to play out of the post because the lane is always clogged - while today, every possession is spread offense.
Crossovers when nobody can put their hands on you is a piece of cake. These guys had to bang around and crash the boards every possession and push constantly to keep guys from crossing the lane so they could grab offensive boards. These guys from the past needed other skills that today's guys simply don't have - and would cry about with all the contact. These guys here could easily play in today's conditions. And all of them would love to play with the freedom of movement allowed today with the no physicality rules.

After going through the likes of Detroit and New York in years past, Orlando wouldn't pose a any sort of challenge. The only other team that gave the Bulls a hard time were the Pacers
I only 24 & I remember to this day the pacers-bulls 7 game ECF I only saw Jordan's last 2 years but he was indeed my favorite & still is!
AN Borroms Its always like that in the playoff conference the best teams in the league usualy don have problems in 1st and second round. The problems usualy come during finals and NBA finals.... What the Rockets did in 94 and 95 its wired and not usual. Same with the Knicks in 99. They werent the best teams but between a better perfomance of there leaders and good match ups made this kind of things posible.
Utah played them tight. never went seven, but a ton of great close games.
But see, the Bulls alway lost to the Pistons except for once (out of four tries).

Rodman was the only player in history that would cheer from himself after a tip in in a modest and unpretentious way such as much of the beating of the chest that we see in the modern times; i think that was genuine humility on his part to celebrate his own tips ins and all of his hard fault efforts.
On the other hand John Salley was part of that 72-10 team??!! This still doesn't look right even after all these years.
Big difference in this series as oppose to the previous was that Grant got hurt, Rodman was a really nice acquisition to the Bulls and Pippen stopped being bashful and really exerted himself as co-capting and now longer taking a back seat to the Jordan comeback show. Defensively the bulls we're prepared for the potent Magic offense and the bulls just wanted it so much more than the magic.
