Only a mile from Meadowlark Log Homes headquarters is this cute and beautiful 18x24 Montana Cabin, with an expanded bedroom and rebadged as Selah Chalet.
Andrew Smith, a local fellow (husband to Elvie’s niece Mari) and who owns an upscale artistic fine furniture and cabinet shop, takes Elvie on a tour of their cabin, used as a local rental and honeymoon spot for travelers coming through.
I have a lot of respect for the Amish community for their craftmanship and ability to build anything from wood.
EVERYTHING I have ever seen that they built was of top quality with no cheap shortcuts. I also like the way Andrew takes old wood and make it into something new and useful, Something to be admired in such a throwaway society.
I would love to stay a few days in that log cabin! It is so beautiful! So much talent and craftsmanship!
Love your cabin, and that you share your source info to spread the happiness. Lived in Kalispell for 5 years in the early 70's. Miss Montana ever since I left. My family was all in Minnesota so I went back. Hope to have a cabin in Mt. Soon❤❤❤
People of immense talent, beautiful, yet practical ideas and no-pretense personalities. How refreshing. You are awesome and deserve all you have achieved through hard work. I usually only see the HGTV-type money grubbers...those with $250k to hire designers to remodel a home or $750k price point to task a realtor to find them a home in that range. Only to have the buyers nit-pick everything. It's easy to see which people are the happiest.

Absolutely top-notch quality materials and labor!!! Beautiful dwelling and furniture. Love the deep windowsill, porches, open floor plan and it comes with every amenity a guest could need. Congrats on a lovely B&B.
I really love the kitchen. From the rescued plank, the really wood cupboards, and tge great corner position for stove. It gives you counter space on either side, whether for baking or casseroles coming out of the oven. Great job Andrew. You will be at the top of my list along with meadowlark ❤❤❤

Beautiful cabin with counter top👍🏽
Like the stove set into what is normally a 'dead' corner. And the deep sills down at counter level. Island sink is better than most. Still retains a sense that it is a "kitchen' thanks to the unusual bar counter.

We were just in Montana and we stopped by and got a tour of Meadow Lark Homes. We are really impressed with the craftsmanship of the homes. One thing is a basement there so nice but Pricey . Nice and warm in the winter and quiet when it Storms .😁
Do you have access to southern longleaf pine for flooring, window frames, cabinets, etc.? It has the reputation of being beautiful as well as long lasting, and I think it would have a lighter color than the larch. The other southern wood that has beautiful color is pecan, my father's childhood home in South Carolina was made of pecan trees that had been knocked down in a cyclone in 1932. Never have forgotten the gorgeous light sheen of that pecan wood on the doors and book shelf frames in my grandfather's home.

Only thing missing is a fireplace
I was under the impression, the Amish did not drive use indoor plumbing or electricity. Is that just one group it doesn't of the album selves of modern-day conveniences?
How do you have a cabin without a fireplace?
I know!! Such a shame.. we felt that the liability out weighed the benefit in the rental situation. Very good point though, thanks for watching!
