- I bought both of these bags Preloved. I will compare the Saumur 30 and the Saumur 35. These bags are no longer produced by Louis Vuitton. IF you are a LV lover, I believe you will like either bag or possibly both. The larger bag, the 35, was purchased in eBay from a Japanese seller. I have had great luck with purchases from Japan. The 30 is what I'm going to be purchasing again for a daily bag. I sold it years ago and I think I'm ready to add it to my collection again 💕

I got the Samur 30 from a FB pre-loved group and she’s in pretty bad condition, the Pachette is in dirty, dry, and curled up but it’s not broken, the tabs on the upper ends are missing and 2of the brass rivets cam off while cleaning it. I know I can make it look a lot better after she’s put back together, but I wasn’t aware that she’s no longer in production. My plan was to clean her up and put back up for sale, hoping I could get my money back. Now I might keep. You did a wonderful introduction to her, and I’m glad that mine isn’t the 35.
So sorry the bag you got is not in the condition you wanted. I hope it cleans up well and you love it.

Great comparison! I love purchasing vintage bags from ebay especially the Japanese resellers. It’s worth the risk for the great prices especially when an Authentication is only $20!

I use real authentication. I find they are the fastest. I have also used authenticate first as well

Do you have any idea why some of the saumur 30 bags online show a strap across the top rivet while some do not, the rivet is exposed. I’m looking to replace my vintage saumur bag. it has the dimensions of the 30 but has a strap across the top rivet. Do you think that’s because it is from the 80s? I know it’s authentic because I purchased it myself at the Louis Vuitton store

Hey Julie. Have you ever had any vintage canvas bags from japan etc that had a storage/musty odor? I bought my trousse and it has an odor. I have already cleaned the canvas/interior leather/zipper. If yes, what did you use to de-odorize?
I also bought a Trousse. I wiped the inside out thoroughly with a Clorox wipe. Then put a dryer fabric sheet in it and put it in a warm place such as the window. Let me know if this works.
Makeup & Medicine I swear by "Odoban" you can get a spray bottle of it at ANY walmart for only 3$ and the spray botttle is enormous.(27 oz. Spray Bottle 3$) They also have a can/cream version of it. I prefer the spray. It takes away ANY scents!. Plus it kills 99.9% of any germs which is phenomal for vibtage bags.. If the smell is really bad spray it with odoban. Also when u sprayit in the lining have a rag on hand to help you spread the spray so it doesnt leave spray marks on the lining.😉 Then put baking soda in a old sock and tie the sock up and throw one in each side. It absorbs the smells. But odoban alone should get rida any musty/mothball/storage odor. Plus its very cheap and easy to use. The odoban alone should totally get rida the smell. However - If none of this helps put the baking soda socks inside your bag then wrap it in a garbage bag. It doesnt need to be air tight just throw it in a garbage bag & wrap it up. Then place it in the freezer. (I know that sounds sketchy but ive seen numorous videos on freezing the smells outa vintage items. If your leather on the bag is damp at ALL - I HIGHLY DONT RECOMEND DOING THIS!. However I have a g.f. that got a rancid musty bag recently and she sprayed odoban used the baking soda and then threw in it in freezer 4 2days and it took all the odor out 100%... I know it sounds very odd to throw it in a freezer. But it truely works amaaazing!.. The longer its in a freezer the more it removes the odor. Hope this helps. Try odoban 1st. Its a phenomal product. I buy and resell desighner bags so im full of info on cleaning bags etc. If theyr really old bags or really bad = I usually work/pay handbag spa to have to them revitalized & they always clean your entire bag including the linings and get rid of any bad odors. Hope this helps
I have the 35, also from Japan, and I have used it for work, holding laptop and documents etc. I wish I liked the Samur better, but I have some issues with it. It might sound stupid, but I keep forgetting what I have in which side of the bag! I find the side straps and buckles really awkward for some reason. I don't like having to undo a buckle to get in my bag, nor do I want to leave them undone....ugh. I find I carry it very occasionally for those reasons.
I am the same! I have to see which side is printed upside down, and I still forget! It was good for travel because I kept it closed most of the time. And it can get heavy.
Mrs Kaa I agree the buckles are kind of a pain sometimes. However - I always put my least used items on the back side. ( lv upside down side) buckle it cos its least used stuff in there. Then I put my most used stuff/fone/makeup in the front pocket and instead of buckling it EVERYTIME - I just tuck the leather strap into the leather circle under the buckle. If im out shopping or around random stangers - I BUCKLE IT EVERYTIME JUST TO BE SAFE NO1 STEALS OR CAN GET IN IT AS EASY..😉 But I adore this bag. Every1 carrys the neverfull and I LOVE my neverfull gm. But, I have been more obsessed with this bag then my neverfull, cos not evey1 has it like the neverfull. Plus they quit making this bag in size 35. Plus its soo unique of a bag... Ive never seen another bag like this one.

Jul’s Jewels- yours fits a 13” laptop?!! I tried to fit my 13.3” MacBook Pro every which way I could think of and couldn’t get it to fit in mine!!! Would you mind telling me which side (front or back) you’re able to fit your laptop in and if you have to finagle it or if it just slips right in? I was surprised I couldn’t get mine in, especially since it’s such a large bag (the 35), and my laptop Is the newest super slim design 13.3” mbp and doesn’t even have a case on it!!! I would be so appreciative if you wouldn’t mind responding!!
A few years ago when my mom gave me her saumur 35 ‘92, I started using it for school and only tried to put my MacBook Air once. It didn’t fit and I walked around campus for two years, struggling carrying it with one arm, books in the other. Today I tried to put it in again, diff angles and it does fit 😂😭 2 years of struggle carrying everything when I could’ve just put it in my bag the whole time 🥴
Erin Jordan how did you fit it? Did you slide it in at an angle or straight down (horizontally)??? I’d LOVE to be able to fit mine in!

Hi Geraldine!! I had to comment my experience with this gorgeous bag and I hope my input is helpful for you! I have this bag; the Saumur in the 35, and I ADORE it. I am 5’5.5” and it is a large bag. It may be bigger than you’re expecting, but I happen to love big bags and I feel it would look fabulous on a petite frame as well as a taller frame. I ordered mine in very good condition from a Japanese seller on EBay and carried it for about a year before I decided that I was so in love with it that I wanted to have all of the vachetta replaced at the LV Boutique. It was a long wait; 7 or maybe even 8 weeks, but it came back to me looking absolutely brand new and I love it even more than before (which I didn’t think was possible!!)
I need to tell you, though, I have a 2018 13.3” MacBook Pro without a case and it DOES NOT fit inside either side of this bag!!
I was shocked that I couldn’t get it to fit seeing as this is a very generous sized bag!
I wanted to make sure you were aware that I couldn’t fit my laptop inside before you bought this bag if your main purpose in buying/carrying it would be to house your tech!!
To answer your question regarding the weight of the Saumur, it is not a heavy bag. I have shoulder issues (which doesn’t stop me from carting around very large bags stuffed with more than anyone could justify as necessary), and although I pack it quite full, due to the shoulder pad and the crossbody style, I find it to be my most comfortable bag. Just for reference, I have neverfulls in mm and gm, a Saleya gm, a montsouris gm, several speedy 30’s, a tivoli gm, a delightful gm, just to name a few, and the only bag I have that is even close to being as comfortable is my delightful (and my montsouris) and I believe that is due to the wide, soft strap. I hope you didn’t have your heart set on using this bag as a laptop/work bag, but if you are still considering getting it just because it’s super cool and comfortable and you don’t see them often (if at all), I strongly suggest you go for it - you won’t be disappointed!! First I would truly like to thank you for replying to my question with such great detail. Yes. I wanted the bag solely for the purpose of carrying my tech in it. Being a women in tech. you still want to look and feel feminine (male dominated industry). Lol
I do think this bag is still a looker and so I would probably purchase the smaller size. I’ve noticed with me if I carry a bigger bag that I will fill it up to the max lol

How do you tell if the 35 is a fake?
You could have it authenticated. Or if you take it to be repaired at LV, they won't repair it if it is fake.
