That would work well, but they'd have to choose one 'pilot' and stick with them as people tend to have different centers of mass, due to variations in how their mass is distributed. IE, some are more top or bottom heavy than others. Ian is probably the best candidate for the job, being the lightest, but Charles has a bit more time practicing. That said, given that Charles was injured, I'd stick with Ian, if he's willing to keep going with it.
That's why they aimed the jets away. Otherwise, the water would literally have gone straight through the center of mass (i.e. his legs and torso area), as he stated.
@@epicgeometro nope, that keeps the centre of thrust exactly the same, just makes it safer. angling them so the nozzle goes more backwards of the user is what makex is talking about
They want trust to go vertical, so you will also need to rotate whole system and in this case you will just fall backward, when there is no trust before the jump.

Youve made good videos for so long so why are you adding all these cheap effects and stuff on the screen, this editing is takeing away the "home made" youtube feel and makeing it feel like a wanna be cable tv show, you guys do a great job you dont need all these effects
Great proof of concept guys! I can see some ways to improve it if you ever come back to it though. The nozzle flaps seemed to sometimes get caught in the blast which likely ate energy from the jump, not sure how much but it can't have helped, so a different solution would be needed. The mounting point of the device also probably needs lowered too humans are already top heavy so lowering the device's mount would help with lowering the center of mass and make it less prone to flips. This would also move the nozzles further from the pilot since the angle they are on would have them be farther from the pilot's legs when mounted lower. Other than looking into lighter materials for the whole thing I'm not sure what else to suggest right now. Either way it was a great project and a great start to something that could be taken quite far I think.
Hacksmith, I was just imagining a "buoyancy pack". Like helium balloons carrying away smaller items. But imagine a backpack that would float away on its own and needs 150-200 lbs to stay on the ground. Allowing us to jump and float kinda like the moon👀
Alright, i haven't watched a hacksmith video in a bit, but i feel as if there's a lot more cuts to semi relevent clips that i think were meant to be jokes, but (in my opinion) just choke the air out of the video's momentum and progression...
I think that you guys need to study about C. G. and C. T. (Center of Thrust). For stable flight they need to be co-linear. That way all of the thrust goes towards lift, instead of a significant portion going into causing forward rotation. Cool video, though.
The diagram animations are great, they really fit the vibe of the videos. The rest of the editing isn't bad, it's just apparent that it was done by a third party to dress the video up rather than compliment the subject matter
TL:DR I saw a shaolin monk double jump IRL... _sorta..._ 🤔 When I went to the shaolin temple as a teen martial artist, I watched a shaolin monk do, what to my eyes, was a "double jump". he performed a spin, high in the air, with his body tilted sideways so that his axis of rotation was nearly parallel to the deck. amid that high-speed spin (at least a 720) he threw his kick. his leg shot out upward, almost perfectly above his axis of rotation at the kicks apex. at that point, his whole body elevated higher into the air, nearly a foot, putting a _second_ apex into the arc of his path, with a valley (nadir) between them! In my book, it counts! 😁👍
That was a cool project, and the results are definitely quite entertaining. However, I wouldn’t say that this was a real double jump. So, it can’t be considered a success. But you’ve taken the first step. I guess the most practical way to achieve it would be to use a regular jetpack on the back and adjust it so that it provides constant thrust, just enough to almost make you hover without lifting off. Then, when you run and jump, the jetpack would first enhance the jump, and secondly, as the first jump starts to fade, you could give a burst of thrust. This would create a controllable double jump since you can also adjust the nozzles on the jetpack t
The jets should be angled forward a few degrees so that the thrust intersect with the center of mass. Currently the jets are offset from the COM which is causing the jumper to rotate in mid air. Angling the jets forward a bit will compensate for that.
Charles is awesome he is such a natural at all of this and a natural addition to the team I hope you guys find more amazing people like him and continue to grow!
