I remember this wonderful opera. I went to see it with my parents in july '76 in Avignon for the première. from that time I can only remember that litlle boy climbing a ladder on te scene and throwing a paper plane that fell turning and turning until it reached the floor, while knee play was playing. I kept something of magic in my mind for what I can remember, I was 4 1/2 years old.
It's hard to describe the way this opera made me feel. I've never experienced anything quite like it. I didn't understand anything, as much as I tried to work it out, but when it was all done, I couldn't help but feel like I've been through an incredible journey. As similar as Knee Play 1 and Knee Play 5 may sound, there was something different about this one. In a way, I felt like I've changed and as a result perceived it differently. It's the strangest catharsis I've ever felt. It impacted me on some deep, subconscious level that I can't possibly understand, but just feel.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. I don't undenstand it, I just feel it's something extraordinary, something magical that is just happening in front of my eyes.
The same happened to me. It was like having seen and heard something I had never seen or heard before. When I start listening to Einstein On The Beach I can't pause, I have to listen to everything. Simply phenomenal.
Published March 2016..???? Why have I only just come across this visual delight with my all time favourite Glass track?!?!? It’s fantastic how you’ve done it. I can now fine tune the vocals by seeing them approach in your video. Thank you!!!!!
@@ToxicTurtleIsMad The audio itself is taken from the 1978 recording by the Philip Glass Ensemble for Tomato Records. Since it was released as a vinyl boxset, several alterations to tempo had to be made and certain parts were cut in order to include everything due to limitations of the format. Glass himself was never satisfied with the recording which I believe is why the 1993 Nonesuch recording was made. The 93 recording is definitely more faithful to the stage performance/Glass's original intention but I'll always have a soft spot for the 78 recording since it was my first exposure to the work.
This has been my favorite Philip Glass song since the first time I heard it many years ago as a young lad. It is among my favorite songs as well, and I much enjoy your analysis of it here. Thanks, and bravo!
Magnifique représentation de ce morceau fabuleux. Félicitations et merci pour ce beau travail. Wonderful performance of this fabulous piece. Congratulations and thank you for this beautiful work.
My only disappointment is that we don’t get to hear the end of the bus driver’s story. Great work with this. If you ever find the time again, there’s a LOT more Einstein to visualize 😁
When I first got this recording in 1984 I was completely shocked and surprised, having had exactly zero idea of what it involved. I cling to this opera today because of a kind of nostalgia for the unforgettable but un-enwordable experience I underwent the first time I sat down to listen from beginning to end, which was unlike anything I have experienced before or since. After many decades it still moves and excites, and more than ever I now feel that Einstein on the Beach announced our present time with a kind of perfect, prescient summation.
Did you make this video? Would you be interested in making more? I'm a composer and would like to bring my music to life via scrolling scores like your own. I would pay you well.
I really want to like the video... But , 666 likes? I don't wanna ruin that... Fuck it. Imma do it, so that the video gets more views. Even if it pains me..

What a wonderful experience for a 4 1/2 year old! Kudos to your parents for taking you to see it.
This is a work of art. It should be in a museum.

@artsyfartsy. Just curious on how old are you? Btw I loved it too
❤
Wow. You took an incredible piece and created a visual representation that captures it in the way I’ve always felt it. Well done.
This is an extraordinary art piece!
This has long been one of my favorite pieces of music and you enhanced its spirit so beautifully. Thank you for creating and sharing.

A true Masterpiece, very emotional.
This is easily one of the most beautiful takes on Knee Play 5 I've ever seen or heard. Thank you so much.
Its the worst version I have ever heard. The bass sounds like its from garageband. Tempo is completly wrong. Its trash.

Stunning!! Thank you for making & sharing this. Made my entire day
Sigma is middle C, Sigma_2 is the C above that, Sigma + 9 is 9 half-steps above Sigma (middle C), and (Sigma + 9)^4 means repeat it 4 times, etc.
STUNNING! Brilliant! thanks!
This is wonderful. Thank you so very much.
but it could be frankie, in addition to being fresh and clean
@High-Stepper And these are the days my friends.

Damn this is so cool. I have to orchestrate knee play one for a little private concert and I wish I had this to look at for knee play one haha

昨年10/8に、神奈川県民ホールでの上演、見ましたよ。新訳で、非常に良かったですね。

This is what happens when you have an OCD and start to count to calm down intrusive thoughts and the overthinking contemporary.
Amazing
Very impressive!
Musique étrange et fascinante ; on est sous le charme !

It's very strange, but its like a schizophrenic version of heaven.

I López it
Great music, great video ! Could you please tell me where is the recording from? Looking for the exact same version in good audio quality :) Thanks!!
Absolutely brilliant, but I found a small mistake: the lyrics don't match at 1:39 .
Is there just a voice video without the music
Philip Glass and David Bowie forever

it's too fast but at least it's not basketball einstein as in the other video
Could anyone explain this to me?
One word: polyphony.
Oh, also, you should know Philip Glass and the context in which he wrote this piece but I'm too lazy to do it, so search them on the internet.
I love you Stephanie. How much...? ;-)

Advertising is more and more stupid. Lies and lies and lies. And You Tube is part of it. What a shame.
