  • Today we take a look at my mule ear Oncidium which is blooming for the first time and talk more about some former Oncidiums.
    ▼▼▼More info below!▼▼▼
The orchid in this video is a hybrid, called Trichocentrum hematochilum x maureen. I am not 100% sure about this tag because I cannot find any picture of this orchid on the internet.
Mule ear Oncidiums are not very common in orchid collections, at least this is how it appears to me, but they are very charming orchids. The flowers are small, displayed on a long flower spike reminding of Tolumnias. The flowers are brown - orange with a gorgeous leathery dark lip. There is no fragrance.
The leaves remind of another former Oncidium and the pseudobulbs are very small. It is potted in semi hydroponics and is doing well so far!

I like how it looks like an Alian with wings and a spider but sitting in a chair wearing a white helmet. It looks so lovely but like it will take over the world. I have a weird imagination.😊😊

All Grower Aliens. Yup I do too. I was thinking a cartoon of a mule head with two orchids sticking out of each sides. It’s Danny who’s inspiring. LOL to your spider 🤣.

Hi Danny I was so glad to see your video this morning on your mule ear orchid, I bought one last June at an orchid show and it proceeded to loose all of its roots over the next 6 months but didn't die. This spring you had a video on placing a rootless orchid in spagnum moss to get roots to grow and now it has one root but the moss is starting too get green stuff growing on it and doesn't smell too good so I think I will change the moss. I'm afraid to put it into semi hydroponics with only one small root. This morning video was very encouraging as are all of your video you have helped me so much that I now have 11 orchids. lol

glad you are back Danny! and one day without miss orchid girl was almost unbearable!! hope your boyfriend is doing better. xoxo L. ps: i am looking to find a trichocentrum lanceanum , i think they are so beautiful ! the flowers are a bigger so the similarities might look different depending on what kind of mule ear oncidium you have ? maybe ? not sure . Yours however really does have that atypical oncidium genus flower look.

Hi Danny With so many inter generic/complex hybrids breeding and so many orchids lovers, might we get an orchid a shape of a hand 🖐 in the near future 🧟‍♀️:0. With so many inter generic breeding names will be all over the place in the future if it hasn’t already. Adorable bloom !! My oncidium is pushing spike as I’m pushing fertilizers. Let’s see who’ll win 😜. Great to see you here and hope BF (sneak in a name one day ?) is doing well. Always enjoy your presentations. Best

Trichocentrum species are very easy and prolific, quite hardy as well. I highly suggest Trichocentrum tigrinum!

Where can I find mule ear orchids to buy. My dad died and oncidium luridum (green and white) orchid reminds me of him but I can't find it.

I wonder if we can cross psychosis orchids with mule ear Oncidiums.

Question: Hi Dani, where do you get the coconut fibre you put in your vanda baskets? I've only ever seen chopped coir which kinda looks like peat compost.

      Auslyn ,
Whenever i bring home a coconut, i keep the husk from which whenever required i take out the coir.
You can definately do that too if you do get unhusked coconuts in your markets .
