    Tip: Decals will loosen quicker in warm water. Older decal sheets lose the adhesive over time. After applying them to the surface and letting them dry, lightly spray over the entire area with 'Clear Krylon Fusion' for plastics. Dries in 15 min.

    I use an old cotton t-shirt to burnish the decal down onto the surface and absorb any moisture beneath the decal.
    If I need to reposition the decal within a few minutes of laying it down, I soak the decal again with warm water, sometimes with a tiny drop of dish soap to break the water tension, then use a corner from the decal backing paper to lift the decal off the foam. The decal backing paper has a "slimy" texture to it that won't tear the decal.
    Great video!

    Thank you for using waterslide decals. I hope that you continue to offer waterslides for all your models moving forward. As someone who likes to customize/paint my planes, having waterslides NOT pre-applied makes that SO much easier to customize my plane than those with traditional pre-applied stickers.

    Also lightly brushing a little decal solvent or setting solution over the decal after application will help the decal settle nicely into all the panel lines and difficult contours.

    I also prefer water-slide over stickers. The get sucked to the surface after the water is gone and form the details much better. There are also shops where you can order decals after your own drawings. Even with white on it.

    How about some tips on how to apply water slide decals to compound curves such as nose art, wingtips, vertical and horizontal stabs tips?
    Additionally... Got any suggestions on how to waterproof the decals on a foam warbird without leaving a glossy finish? I found that getting caught in the rain will soften the decals up, just avoid touching them until the dry again... Thnx!

    • @MotionRC
      @MotionRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We can do another video for sure. But a decal setting solution like Micro Sol will help with compound curves as it softens the decals and a coat of clear miniwax is what many use over their decals to protect them

    Just encountered these for the first time building a 1;48 scale aircraft. The ones for my model are so tiny, very hard to work with. Especially for ones that go inside the cockpit.

    • @MotionRC

      I can only imagine. I envy static model builders of small scale. Takes patience and the right tools. For that, you need a fine tip needle nose pliers

  • @nick_doutrnz_entertainment
    @nick_doutrnz_entertainment ปีที่แล้ว

    Not that I would see a purpose to do this, BUT if you ever wanted to remove it or reposition it AFTER its dry, (say, a week or more) can you rewet it and do that? Other than that, I learned a lot on this video. I want to start applying the decals to my warthog but I didn't get instructions (unless it's in the manual. Who uses a manual?!?! Pfft ). This showed me exactly what I need to do! Thanks, James!!

    • @MotionRC
      @MotionRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Waterslides still have a type of adhesive to them that is protected by the backing when you initially wet them, but once they dry, they would just flake off if you tried to re-wet them and move them. Once they are set, they are set

    Does anybody know what kind of paper he's using? or what is the best paper to use. I bought some waterslide paper but it seems like it creases too easy and ink comes off at the creases. Any help appreciated. would like to buy the best quality paper possible. Thanks!

    • @MotionRC
      @MotionRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These decals come with the plane. I have never tried to print my own waterslides, but know some who do. I'm sure a google search will lead you to the right type

    • @sidcapalungan607
      @sidcapalungan607 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are 2 types, one for laser and the other for inkjet printers. You can buy in amazon or lazada very cheap. Best to use laser types as it doesn’t need sealing right after ptinting.
