If their combined weight causes the maximum weight of the aircraft to exceed, then it will cause problems. I feel bad for what happened to these ladies, but I would refuse to sit next to someone who refuses to buy another seat, and that is my right. If you know you are big, then the right thing to do is to purchase two seats or go onto an aircraft that can possibly hold more weight

@maylynbayani same. I think we are getting one side of the story. What I read on Google was that the Stewardess told them they needed to purchase another seat, and these two ladies had refused. That was what I was getting from what I had read. I mean, I do not agree with what the stewardess had supposedly done, and that was a shame. Something that led up to these ladies being escorted off of the plane, which caused the other passengers to deplane, doesn't add up
As i read it, they didnt fit in the seats, if that is the case what els can it be done to accomidate them, if ppl dont fit in their seats in can be dangerous for themself or other passangers, it is a plane after all 5 000 meter above the sea, if ppl cant strapped down in their seat, some turbulance, acceleration or so on is frankly dangerous And a plane accelerate and will break pretty rough and turbulance isnt exactly a rare concident on a flight
Its not for fun that there are seatbelt in a normal car, btw those airplane seats are also meant to keep passanger alive thro ridicoules circumstances like even if a seat is sucked out of the airplane thausands of meter about ground there is a chance of survival I wonder what the couple thought was gonna happen exactly Its not some train in India where ppl site on every inch Tho i doubt their weight would exceed the plane maximum but the plane would have to use its break at some point on its landing which would mean a big person might exceed what the seats are intended for Like a full to half full 1,5 bottle of water will have a massive weight increase in a 90km to full stop
Air New Zealand has a duty to ensure safety of all passengers. If somebody is endangering other passengers by their inaction to follow the rules and safe operating procedures then of course they should be removed from the flight. How is this hard for some people to understand?

If they followed instructions everybody would have had a normal flight ,but instead they had to argue and question the professional flight attendant and disrupt the other passengers.
