  • This classic Custom Coasters International (CCI) wooden coaster was redone by the Gravity Group over the course of multiple years in an effort to breath new life into the attraction. This massive renovation included new trains, reprofiled hills, updated controls, and more! The result is a fantastic ride experience that is a must do ride in Europe!

    Characteristics of the attraction are those of the old version. New version is:
    29m height
    90 km/h speed
    Length: under 1233m (but we don't now exact length, maybe 1100m or under)

    Rode it in backwards at the end of my day last week. It was a mix of airtime and headache.
    I didn't know what I was going for considering I rode it only 2 times throughout my visits last year in the normal way.
    But man, that was rougher than I remember ! Especially one turn, before the turn before the 2nd tunnel, which "turned" out pretty badly.
    I got my GoPro with me and you can feel my pain during the entire ride.
    I might try to redo again (as the backward is now free) but during the morning when it's much smoother and less painful.

  • @Seweal
    @Seweal 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Astérix is my homepark, and my advice is : ride T2Z as soon as you can in the day of your visit (first thing in the morning if you can). This ride tends to become more and more rough as time goes through the day. It is ok smooth in the morning, but absolutely terrible (painful !) in the end of the day. Be prepared to the shake and roughness, and you'll enjoy the multiple powerful airtimes this ride has to offer.

    Went to Asterix for the first time this week with my family, took my first ride on Zeus on the backwards row with my sister. Was absolutely insane, that first drop came as a surprise for how not-that-tall it is, and the rest was relentless. I hadn’t watched a POV and had no idea what was going on - the lightning tunnel particularly made me jump (airtime joke moment).
    My sister kinda thought it was a family coaster and didn’t realise until half way up the chainlift what she was in for. I ended up taking my dad on the back row later at night, we were on the backwards row on the last ride of the day. Don’t worry I also had a forwards go (front row) in between).
    After watching this, I’m certainly happy they made it free, had no idea about the paying system. I’d never been on a proper thrill wooden coaster before this, closest Iron Gwazi but that’s hybrid, hope to make it on a lot more!

    Thb, we went on this coaster in May 2023 but we found it very rough. Not Bandit type of rough 😅 but we have ride beter woodies in Europe for example Wodan, Troy or even the smaller GCI's. The main thing was that the train was constantly hunting between the rails, trying to find its way to the station resulting in a bumpy/shaking ride. Not sure it was just one exception though...

    I just rode it last week, on halloween, in the dark. We could only get 1 ride, since it had over an hour wait the whole day and night and was down for 1,5-2 hours in the evening.
    I got third to last row, my dad and sister got second to last. I really liked the airtime, but it was actually rly rough. Don't know if I got a bad ride or something, but it felt like it was trying to make a milkshake out of us. It was really fast, too. Probably because it was really warmed up from cycling full trains for 10+ hours at this point.

    Running new trains on the same track never works on a wooden coaster, because the sags created by the old trains don't align with the new ones. The benefit of trailored hitches and axels in trains like Timberliners and MFs is they evenly distribute forces on the track thus vastly slowing its deterioration. Unfortunately due to the way these trains submit and comform to the shape of the track it makes the experience even rougher. If you replace the trains, replace the track too. Thats why the Ghost Rider train conversion worked the best...they replaced the entire track sans the lift and brakes

    I was able to do Parc Astérix the same day as our influencer friend and I have a few nuanced things. Already oziris is I think one of the best inverted B&M ever designed time this one is hovering and aerial. Toutatis is a coaster devoid of intensity but extremely diverse in these elements, this machine is an incredible experience from start to finish. Goudurix is a not catastrophic old shcool coaster, visitors like it a lot and it is part of the park's DNA, however the CDA plans to withdraw it in about 5 years and any attempt to retrack is impossible because it blocks all a parcel not exploited by the park until then. Finally, tonnerre 2 Zeus is a wooden which was great in 2016 but which has not ceased to age despite all the attempts of Parc Astérix. The coaster has the same problems as stampida and has the defect of being the major attraction with the least good flow. There are good airtimes in the first part but as soon as we arrive on the straight after the wave turn it's absolute death, no more airtimes, just horrible vibrations. I still like this coaster but for me the CDA still has to invest a LOT to make it good again one day.

      Sorry could you elaborate further on why goudrix can't be retracted? Having trouble understanding your comment

    • @Madadax
      @Madadax ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dademurphy1732 There are several reasons for this. The first is the fact that it has very difficult elements to redo like on python has efteling, I mean the butterfly. Then the park wants in the next few years to completely review the theming of these areas and to enlarge them, however that of Goudurix is poor in theming and the coaster blocks access to the rear plot of the park. In addition, the CDA wants to get rid of the coaster to put something else in its place, more than 5 years ago, the park had promised a new train for the coaster but the management changed and canceled it because in any case it is at the end of its life and the park has said so itself.

      @Madadax ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dademurphy1732 I am French and my level of English is not optimal. Just tell yourself that Parc Astérix has had a master plan for the decades to come. And the destruction of goudurix is undoubtedly recorded. However, we do not know when exactly. Personally I like goudurix, it's old shcool and probably not as good as an arrow like viper. For me, he's part of the park's DNA and it's going to hurt me a lot when he leaves, but hey... if it's to put us in a new gen vekoma instead, I won't say no!

  • @KingRCT3
    @KingRCT3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm glad you enjoyed your laps, but I might disagree on two points.
    First, the original Tonnerre de Zeus was already relentless from start to finish, despite the extra helix. On the years where it ran greatly it was really an amazing experience, probably the best classic woodie out there. Alas, there were years when it ran badly, and I found myself finding Goudurix more enjoyable on those times. That tells a lot.
    Second point, Tonnerre 2 Zeus (which is a wordplay, 2 sounding like 'de' in French. They jokingly came up with this pun during a design meeting but the marketing loved it and kept the name) for me was really rough. Like, beyond enjoyable. It is certainly better on some sections like the wave turn, but some others are just.. Eh... And this being still a long ride doesn't help.
    I still have a sweet spot for it and wish it can run great again. I haven't tried the backrow despite it being open and free to anyone now.
    Another trivia, the park partnered with Undiz, an underwear company for Zeus current pantie. The joke is from the original 1997 ride but they changed its motif last year.

    I’m surprised you have positive things to say about this because the only thing I’ve ever heard about this is it’s insane roughness. I would love to head out to France one day just to see what camp I fall jntk with this ride

    • @Madadax
      @Madadax ปีที่แล้ว

      an adviser, waits at least 5 years before going to Parc Astérix. T2Z has an absolutely fabulous layout but it's very rough (made the same day as coaster studio by the way). CDA called on Gravity for the redesign but for me it was a mistake, GCI would have been more able to do some fluid things. My "dream" would be that intamin rework it with these rails a la el toro. Anyway, I don't like this coaster at the moment but having done its old version before it became horrible I can say that it was more glorious. The layout of this coaster is just crazy, all that's missing is a complete and clean retrack with a little rethematization work and we'll be good to say that this wooden is exceptional.

  • @kylelegg6837
    @kylelegg6837 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did this really go from good to horrible in one season? I also was at the park recently and only managed to get one ride (middle) due to crowds. I was really looking forward to it, but I didn't really get much of any airtime in the middle and I thought the old track sections were really really rough, jackhamering rough. The new track was fairly smooth, but the constant back and forth from smooth to rough I really didn't like. I'll need to get a front/rear ride next time to see if airtime and smoothness is any better.
    As for Toutatis, it's not even a conversation, Toutatis is ridiculous! Maybe my new favorite coaster in Europe. So much ejector air! So much!

  • @Noct31
    @Noct31 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having seen the work Gravity Group has been doing recently on rides like Zeus, Leviathan, and Grizzly at KD, I have come to the opinion that it should be them, not RMC, who is tasked with "updating" American Eagle at SFGAm. I used to be all about Eagle getting the Twisted Colossus treatment, but now, having seen this excellent work Gravity Group is doing, and with this new track style, I think it could be very exciting to see what they could do with a massive classic like the American Eagle. A bit of reprofiling on that first drop and speed hills, and maybe a new take on the giant helix, it could re-launch Eagle into the conversation of best woodies.

    Wish it was possible to copy and paste this park in Wisconsin so they can have an ancient Greek themed park that’s not a black eye to the amusement industry

    I wonder how it rides with such a ridiculously long train, seems so much longer than any other Gravity Group train.

      I have an answer to your question, it rolls by typing in all directions. The timberliners were I think the worst choice for T2Z.

    Backwards seat is free as there's none. Forward facing seat was my worst rollercoaster experience, ever.

    Backwards gave me a headache. And toutatis has way more airtime.

      That's the fun of a wooden coaster though, it's never the same twice

    Meanwhile all the french enthusiasts are saying how this is the worst retrack ever done on a coaster.. When I ride this thing next month, first ride is going to be in the reverse backrow.

    As amazing as it is, I really blame the park for how they operate backwards seats. This backwards car already reduces capacity as one car is replaced by a rear zero car, but the park manages to keep those seats empty for 1/3 to 1/2 of operating time due to their reservation system. I love virtual queues like Filotomatix system, but they only make sense if there's a regular open access queue to fill in the gaps. That's not the case with backwards T2Z and that's a total shame. They have even kinda "hidden" how to get on it, since neither the app nor signs in front of the ride clearly say that it's a separate upcharge attraction. It's like they know their system can't accomodate for their attendance ! I don't mind paying, but I strongly disagree about their reservation policy for backwards T2Z, its ruined capacity is ridiculous compared to the heavy crowds they can get. It's my #2 coaster but man I gotta hate it so much for that ! Either they put on regular backwards rows, either they make a second separate queue for the back row in order to fit two riders per train. I have no words to describe my frustration as reservations were "sold out" while one train out of 2-3 was sent with an empty back car...
    Thanks for this review, definitely my most anticipated of the trip !!

    This ride was such a disappointment. The layout has so much potential, but DAMN I still don't understand how a wooden coaster can be so rough, it destroys the experience.
    Gravity Group clearly failed this retracking imo, hopefully the park still has good coasters like OzIris or Toutatis
